- MrDeetz, on 03/29/2009, -1/+18Delighted for him. He's been overshadowed by Lewis Hamilton so it's great to see him shine for once. Hopefully this isn't a flash in the pan and Brawn can be successful this year. Also great to see Hamilton come from 18th to 3rd.
A British 1-2 would be fantastic. Bring it on! - Threlly1, on 03/29/2009, -3/+19I always digg the underdog !
Well done Jensen. - walgman, on 03/29/2009, -1/+14It's gonna be one hell of a season. They get the results wrong though. Hamilton was promoted to third.
- breadfred, on 03/29/2009, -3/+12Alonso is a bad loser. And a tit.
- WillFight4Beer, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9Trulli was demoted 25s for overtaking during SC (I believe it was Hamilton he overtook, correct me if I'm wrong). That demotion took him down to 12th place and everyone else got moved up.
- mooninite, on 03/29/2009, -0/+7Ah.... and Vettel was given a 10 place starting penalty for the next race for the Kubica incident. I'm on the fence on that one. It looked 50/50 on blame.
- mooninite, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5I thought he was given a $50k fine for running with the damaged car but the grid penalty for the crash. Oh well.
My source: http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/03/29/kubica-and-v ...
Where did you hear differently? - gsnedders, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5Nah, Vettel was given the penalty for continuing with his damaged car, not for the crash.
- turquoisefish, on 03/29/2009, -1/+6No he isn't
- bigpun, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4I wondered about this, as he was third when the safety car last went out but then was down to forth - although overtaking isn't permitted during this period.
Was this why he was given the third place back? - gsnedders, on 03/29/2009, -0/+41) The places that broadcast HD merely upscale. FOM don't make available a HD stream, despite filming it. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sporteditors/2008/12/pl ...
- bduddy, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3You are correct, or at least that's what the official steward's report says.
http://www.fia.com/public/f1_media/aus09_document_ ... - Hellahulla, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3The appeal will fail. Of course they can't really relax until it does ... but it will, so no problem.
Why do you feel that the Brawn can't stay competitive ... do you think they'll just stand still while the other teams catch up? Ross Brawn is a very talented man, remember he and his team dragged Ferrari out of relative obscurity (with Schumacher's help of course). He can make this team work, it won't be easy, but it can happen.
As for .5 seconds a lap, they were lapping faster than just .5s than their rivals. - bigpun, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3Thanks WillFight4Beer - confirmed on the official Formula 1 site:
http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2009/805/ - jjintheuk, on 03/29/2009, -1/+4Well done Jenson - Brawn GP seem to have done an awesome job. I'm not sure about the new BBC F1 team yet though, they were a bit all over the place with their interviews when it was DC, Eddie and that other guy together.
- Mauly, on 03/29/2009, -0/+22) The commentater is from 5live, and has apparently been covering F1 since 1998, so first race doesnt hold and water for me.
Commentating on Radio and TV is very different. The transition from describing action to radio listeners then not describe in as much detail to a TV viewer will take him a little more time.
I'm no expert, but if you watch a footy game, but listen to radio commentary you can see what I mean. - streetmagix, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3Still better than the ITV coverage we've had for the last few years. No adverts breaking up the action, full streaming of all sessions, including practices with full commentary. Also having experts who are actually experts (Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard).
Granted its not in HD, but hopefully any races that are filmed in HD will be shown in HD. - mickstephenson, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3With the whole diffuser debacle it's hard to judge the relative performance of the cars, if it is judged to be legal, every team will be modifying their diffuser. So next weeks race could see an entirely different performance and will likely see MacLaren and Ferrari on par with the performance of Brawn, so it's hard to project much from this race. Although it was a flawless performance from Jenson and he is certainly not going to be sidelined even if MacLaren and Ferrari are going to offer stiffer competition than was seen today.
- Mauly, on 03/29/2009, -1/+31. BBC don't use their cameras, so not the BBC's fault.
2. I bet the commentator knows more then you, give him a chance was only first race.
3. I love the interviews from the pit lane! Did you have your TV volume turned on or up, I heard just fine. Its the only reason I turn it on before the race.
Well done JB, same again next weekend.. - DarwinBC, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3 The part in question is the rear defuser. While some of what you say is true, how is it that his team mate Rubens Barcelo who was hit at the start of the race and had his rear defuse broken off was able to finish in second place.
Teams like Ferrari and Renault of all done little tweaks to their car by bending the rules. The mass damper system in the two time world champion winning car. Or how about the fact that while there was an engine freeze last year Ferrari was able to tweak their engine through loop holes to gain more power. Ferrari and Renault and just bitching to Charlie Whiting because they didn't think of it first.
I watched that race and I think there is a lot more to Brawn GP's pace then just that rear defuser. I think we have to wait and see what the next few races bring. F1 is a hard sport to predict, especially with all the changes this season. - streetmagix, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3Well Vue cinemas sometimes show F1 races in HD, but not all of them. I haven't seen any cinemas offering ALL of the races yet. The BBC (i assume) will film the British GP so that'll be in HD. If there are any cinemas offering all of the races could you paste the link here? I really want to go and see it will with large crowd.
I kinda agree about the commentator, although he does have a very good reputation from 5live, so give him a while. I'm unsure about Jake Humphrey yet though. - Spetz, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2James Allen is a much better commentator than Jonathan Legard. James actually understands F1 and doesn't miss the critical points. The only criticism he receives (from the informed audience) is for being too demeaning to the informed audience. This is because he has to appeal to the masses.
Anyway, Jonathan's epic fail to understand what was going on in Qualifying was hilarious. Also, anyone with half a brain could note that the track was rubbering in and so becoming faster and faster as the session wore on...yet Legard did not mention this at all.
Martin Brundle is great as a pundit. You need someone that can get excited about F1 and who knows the sport as the main commentator. Only Allen can do both, imo. - Number23, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3Great race, great finish! I jumped out of my sofa when Vettel tangle with Kubica given Rubens 2nd.
Go Brawn GP!
On a side note: Hey Bernie it''s 2009, enough with the upcasted PAL! - jjintheuk, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3What are you on about, what race were you watching - Australia 2000?
Its Brundle and some other guy who isn't particularly good, but maybe he'll grow on me - devansega, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2Superb, Hamilton may still be given the win if the appeal goes through. That would be a crying shame though as it was an excellent race, I have high hopes for this season.
- HalsMyPal, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1no, we get the same feed everyone else does and the commentary is put over by the commentators in a studio in Charlotte, NC. Plus you can only get Speed TV (the channel its on) if you have satellite, or some cable companies have it. plus it come on at 3 or 4 in the morning and i always end up seeing who wins on the internet before i get to see the replay on sunday afternoon.
no one in the US cares about F1, only...... NASCAR...... (i feel dirty after typing that word) - mttst, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2*diffuser
- mypetridish, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1@noisyarsinine: some chumps from BBC. i read that when i was reading about the rule changes.
you didnt have to be so offended. - jjintheuk, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2The coverage was OK, as Foochan said.
1) No BBC HD - I'm watching through standard Freeview, it doesnt affect me. I cant remember how it works but there is a company that controls the coverage, not the BBC, with a few race tracks wanting to have control of what gets shown themselves (their own director) - I think it works like this. FUJI Television does the coverage I think.
2) The commentry from the other BBC guy was a bit annoying for me, pretty poor "if you remember". Martin was good hough I thought. Maybe I'll get used to him though
3) Coulthard and Eddie are a good idea, it was funy when they were arguing, but maybe some people wouldn't see what they were doing as very professional. The new young guy isn't very good, I believe you need someone a bit older to actually care or believe what he is saying. When the 3 of them were interviewing Richard Brandson it was bit all over the place, with Eddie stealing the presenter role, then the new guy etc. Poor - Swivelstick, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1And I'm sure they all remember you fondly and will invite you round for high tea very soon.
- DarwinBC, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Yeah it's early. Was up until 4:30 watching the race
- MSP1, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1"upcasted PAL"?
What does a high cast Indian mate of Bernie's have to do with it? - noisymime, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Who the hell was slating him to win the championship? Up to 3 weeks ago he didn't even have a drive!?!?! Even after that time, until Friday no one had ANY idea what Brawn were like.
- ricopicouk, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1Is there any HD coverage in the USA?
- Rapax, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1The increased engine reliability rules really messed with his chances for more WDC's. His strategy for both his titles was basically to hope for his opponents engines to go up in smoke. He got very lucky those two seasons and his strategy paid off. Now the engines rarely fail any more, and he's back in the middle ranks.
- xelf, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1He was given a 10 grid penalty for his part in the incident, his TEAM was given a fine for telling him to stay on the track. The 10 grid penalty was a bit harsh, Kubica could have passed him under safer circumstances.
- Attunement, on 08/02/2009, -0/+1He now drives for Brawn GP, Honda pulled out and Ross Brawn took over the team and re-branded,
Because the Honda car last year was poor they started developing this years car last year instead of working on the then current car.
Loads of rule changes this year and Brawn have been the best at working to those restrictions.
They only tested the car for the first time 2 weeks ago.
That's a basic summary. - EMsean, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2He's still around. He's driving for Renault now.
He was coming on last season, near the end. I'd say I'd expect him to have a strong season, but things are too different this year to say something like that, I think. - HalsMyPal, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1I am sure it is better than Speed's coverage here in the US. The commentators are okay but the production quality always feels like its scripted.
- MrChunks, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2Good for you. Have a slice of cake. All of who?
- damawa42, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Just watch the Red Button coverage - it has Anthony Davidson (I am sure you know who he is) and Croft (can't remember first name) commentating for the Five Live coverage. Slightly better I thought. But on the hour they break for the news - lame! (still get pictures though)
- bduddy, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1He went to McLaren and that ended pretty badly, although he almost won the championship. He is indeed back at Renault now, but their car isn't nearly the same.
- matt.rubin, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2***** i had it tivoed. I need to stop surfing digg before catching up on tv
- EarlOfLade, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1No, the team lost it's Virginity last night. ;-)
- ricopicouk, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Dugg, - cant get much better than quote from director of sport!
Fair point, apears HD feeds are not as accessible as I first thought. I was going to write my letter of complaint to the BBC, I can now see that its probably not their fault.
I shall instead be addressing my letter to the FIA, in this day and age they should not be using a filming contract for a woldwide sport, which is in need of further funding and viewers, and having the contract allow those to withhold the HD content. - mrawl, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2Yowee!!! That was a fantastic event all around. What a superb track and location. And well done Brawn, or I guess it's Virgin now (is that right?)
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+0Lemans, Grand Prix, F1---- Where's the NASCAR. Show us Southern Yanks some love.
What is this European motorsports only?!?!?!?!? - MSP1, on 03/29/2009, -2/+2"BBC coverage was WANK. 1) No BBC HD Coverage.."
If you morons spent more time concentrating on the racing and less time standing in front of the TV with a magnifying glass you would find you enjoy it more.
Remember, unless you have zero imagination, the best pictures are on the radio! - MrChunks, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1*YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN!!*
Boring. - jonathan102, on 03/29/2009, -0/+0Lewis Hamilton is now the youngest world champion.
