- autorock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It sounds like you are asking for a "killer comment" killer.
- Kazenodeku, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Another "X Killer"...
- ashester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Audi owns Lamborghini, thats why they got the engine.
- bertsisterwanda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Check out the spy video!!
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/autoexpresstv/spyshotvideos/200300/audi_r8.html - audioobsessed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5All audi needs is to be featured in a rap video, with some scantily clad women vying for their spot sitting next to the big dog (whoever that may be)
- gsnedders, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Peh. Looks nothing like the LMP1 R8.
Oh, and how can they borrow technology from Lamborghini when they're both part of the VWG. - flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I will get one in three years after my nissan payments are done. schweet.
- jawadde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3nonsense. Fiat hold ferari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati but no german brands
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_automobile_manufacturers - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can't kill the Ferrari name, can't kill the Ferrari legacy, and of all things...it's a Ferrari.
If Lamborghini wants to sell itself out by using their tech on an Audi, regardless of its potential, it will never be seen as a Ferrari killer.
Only Lamborghini can fully create the full effect of a Ferrari killer.
Sorry, but Audi is more lined up with BMW and MB - Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4the previous story was nothing but 8 photos, this is about its launch.

You call it the "Ferrari killer" however in the article it says, "Though it is no head-to-head competitor with Ferrari...". The article does say the R8, "is a direct challenge to Porsche's $100,000 Carerra 911".
Just to clarify. - nordler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think this article may be inaccurate. All other sources are reporting 420bhp and $80-110k depending on some pretty expensive options. Businessweek says 480bhp and $130k. Anyone know for sure?
- JBCougar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree. But the blame falls on the media, who seemingly invents a new "killer" label every other month these days. I wouldn't blame Audi or any of the other companies out there who have tried to release things like MP3 players only to be labeled "the next failed Ipod Killer" in the headlines the same day.
- jones20992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2to bad we cant get the V10 LMP diesel :(
- 5inline, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's the "Though it is no head-to-head competitor with Ferrari" Ferrari Killer.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah... that one was on the FRONT PAGE. What the hell?
- gsnedders, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nah, have to wait for the R10 for that…
- insulin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what, no diesel? I thought we'd see a diesel engine in their top-end sport platform.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Porsche and Volkswagen (audi's owner) are cooperating companies.
- Metman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can, but it is a bit of a pain.
I purchased a VW Jetta (170ps) TDI while in Germany (unavailable in the States) and had is shipped to the US when I relocated. Ironically, when I sat down to figure out how much more it cost me it turned out using the same equation to determine stickerprice on the American versions to the German ones after shipping and substracting State/Federal Tax it was not that more more expensive. - jasz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.automotoportal.com/article/Paris_debut_for_Audi_R8_super_car
Here's a nicer review. This website has a pretty good RSS too (updates frequently) - Metman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.koenigsegg.com/ - Pricey but WOW
- Egoist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are you this depressing in real life?
On-Topic: Sexy car, but I'm surprised they didn't mention the Ford GT as a competitor. I'd gladly take the GT over any of the other cars in that price range. - whackaxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, along with "X slams Y over Z topic"
- adrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@nordler
Yea I think you are right. Everything that I have read (from actual motor industry sources, not business week) say 420 (same output as the RS4 that uses the same V8), and around the 100k mark.
More details on the engine here:
http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Audi_News/article_2572.shtml?page=4
But the 130k price tag may be referring to the V10 version of the car, that we do not have specs on yet. Although you can probably guess that it will read pretty much like a Lamborghini Gallardo with 500hp as it will use the same engine. - dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I live near the Audi/VW hot weather testing grounds and I have seen this car several times starting a month ago driving around my nieghborhood and the highway that connects us to Phoenix. Looks very cool. Sounds great too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd still rather have a BMW M5 V10. It's a more realistic, comfortable, real world car still capable of 200 mph.
- coolbru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup, great car. Shame you have to have a tanker following you to keep you fuelled up - Jeremy Clarkson's gets 4mpg when pushed (not literally, you understand)...
- u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the r8's engine is actually a tuned down version of the Lamborghini Gallardo's, same technology, but not as powerful, thats how they are still going to maintain the sale of the Gallardo.
although i like the curvy body styling of the r8 a little better than the classic lambo boxy-sporty-ness.
anyway u cant compete audi with ferrari thats like comparing a hyundai to a lexus - lowriderjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/audi_news/article_1832.shtml
the engine thats going in that is supposedly going to make it into the RS8 if i'm not mistaken. that will be a badass car - rax262, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No it doesn't look like the Le Mans winning R8, but Audi is clearly trying to conjure up some of that reputation. If I'm not mistaken the design group at Audi is separate from VW, Lambo, etc. so in a sense they would be borrowing the tech.
I'm sure it's a great performance vehicle, but what remains to be seen is if Audi can sell 5,000 of them a year or not. I'm betting that they can since your talking about a niche market for $100k+ sports cars. who's buyers, if you believe the marketing research, are persuaded by Audi's venerable reputation in motor sport. - Frogizmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0niiiice too bad im still tryna afford a friggin honda...
- aknowles5139, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Isn't this Audi in Gran Turismo 4? I think i have it...
- Brocclibob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*Drool* Love that front grill.
- NickyBatts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've had this on pre-order since July.
- becominglumberg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well, it is the title of the article to which it links....
- offthenutboom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There are spy videos already for this car on Edmund's. This car has gone through several Iterations in design. It will price cheaper than the Gallardo about $150000
- uliqmadik, on 05/11/2009, -0/+0Still not a fan of the styling and would much rather have a GT-R.

http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/20 ... - elroy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ferrari killer? This looks more like a porsche competitor. ~400hp coupe.
For the money, I'd get an M6... 500hp and RWD. FUN! - Dodger2876, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The front is amazing....but the rear is nearly perfect. Looks like pure power ! Thanks AUDI :-)
- runningapathy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1(Sigh). Yet another commercial product that 99.9% of the populace will NEVER be able to afford.
Why is this relevant? - scottmoss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It looks great! But I predict that it will only last 2 years in the US. This market is to fickle for a $130K Audi. The W12 is currently going through a rework due to this.....
- fifrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2@ macfanboi
I agree, it doesn't make any sense. Perhaps it's just a publicity stunt? - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Nissan Micra?
- l0ne, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Hardly a "Ferrari killer", since Audi and Ferrari are owned by the SAME holding (FIAT).
- macfanboi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Doesn't make sense, direct competition with Lamborghini.
- copilot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I will never be able to afford this car. I wish I could.
