- BigGrant, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22You are right no one needs a car like this. But if someone wants it and has the money more power to them.
- tutivlahos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17I see your point.
- Desolite, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19now taking bets on whether any of the comments on this story will go above +5 diggs...
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13That's one nice car...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10tree huggers cant talk in my opinion because they all drive 61' vw busses that get like 4 miles to the gallon
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9My favorite part:
"With speeds reaching, and possibily exceeding, 200mph"
Ya think? This thing will run like a raped ape. A lighter chassis than the Z06 plus an additional 150HP? They are going to have to generate massive down force or put collapsible wings on it for flight. - Harbinger67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Those goddamn leaf springs. Them and their...working well.
- Xansas, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Cars like this are built to outrun those goddamned tree-hugging hippies, BigGrant!
- eexlebots, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I'm a tree hugger (I guess) but I dig sports cars. I'm sorry, they're fun!
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Considering that the current Z06 is the only car with 500+ HP to not be considered a gas guzzler.
- jcaino, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8two things:
that is one mean looking car.
this is not for everyone - it is a race car with a license plate. - kgorczyn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Corvette gets over 26mpg on the highway...... not exactly the most inefficient automobile.
- knowitman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Maybe it's because using the OHV engine configuration is cheaper, weighs less for a larger engine displacement, has less moving parts, and gets better gas mileage. Why else can a 500 HP chevy get 25+ HWY MPG while a 500 HP Ferrari can only manage 15 at best? GM has also been developing the technology on them so long that they have nearly perfected it.
- snackdrag, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6hey, they work! it's like a wooden wagon from hell! the floors are balsa wood too.
- krets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Corvette: Room for two.
Vespa: Room for one.
There's a reason for that. - kgorczyn, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Corvette...
The only American car that I would buy. - thestorey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Pompus ass.
- Butros, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Camaro is for the person who wants corvette performance and actually intends to drive the car like a muscle car. Whereas most corvette drivers are white haired old dudes that never break 4k rpm and leave the stock exhaust on there.
- watcht, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I shall shed a tear when I see one of these, shall be crashed on the side of the road by some inexperinced rich guy...
- watcht, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Your on a vespa and comparing it to a corvette? Have you driven a 'vette before let alone been in one? God id rather ride my bicycle...than a pussymobile like a vespa.
- 30thElement, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Because an extra 100+ horsepower always means slower to me. Especially with the carbonfiber making the body lighter.
- psykiv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Base Corvette @ $45k http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette/
+
http://www.lingenfelter.com/C6LS2Lingenfelter427CIDTwinTurbo725HP.htm ($49,000)
= over $6,000 cheaper with 75hp more - yunus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4This car is great, however I have always looked at the corvette as the supercar for the masses, a 100k price tag removes that and moves this into the regular supercar class which has lots of other great cars.
I miss the corvette of a few years ago that had no competition in its price range. - Butros, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They're not dumping the coupe dude. This is like what ford does with the mustang, v6 for the ladies and hertz, gt for the 20 something dudes, and gt500 for the silver haired viagra users.
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Aerodynamic drag is the largest contributor to low fuel consumption, second is weight. This thing is so low and sleek that its Cd is probably 20% less than most cars and maybe 50%+ lower than a big SUV or truck. The big engine and supercharger system probably put it near most sedans in weight, but the body could save significant weight if it were made of fiberglass or carbon. The big engine will decrease engine efficiency slightly with frictional losses, and these fat tires will increase rolling resistance. Overall, though, aero and weight is the big differentiator when it comes to mpg, and this thing doesn't look to be a huge guzzler.
- maticus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Now THIS is what they should use to make a "OMFG, Firefox Sports Car!!!!1!".... Toyota Celica my ass......
- mrwiggles123, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9Sexy
Wonder if they are still going with the leaf springs lol - matthafling, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3and he'll just laugh knowing he's getting laid and you're driving a scooter
- nbanman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Much respect to Lingenfelter, who have made awesome stuff for years and backed it up with a warranty. However, the Z06 and ZR-1 are much more than just a base Corvette with a bigger engine attached to it. Aluminum frame, carbon fiber, bigger brakes, less weight.
- bigern75, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3me likey. me want!!!!!
- watcht, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Im pretty sure you dont need 650hp to out run a battery powered Toyota.
- adrianmonk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Actually, 4 miles per gallon would be a reasonable figure for a vehicle 61 feet in length...
- MaxPowers2007, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7I drive a Camaro. Camaros are the "Thinking Man's Corvette."
- hansonc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2look at a calendar... it's 07 still
- Butros, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dude the only thing with worse resale value than an American car... is a German one! Btw Corvette continues to beat Carerra year after year performance wise, auto cross or drag race.
- spritom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2With that said...
...I think it's for me. - philz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Question is, how many people will drive cars like this and how many 1000 cars are worse...
- tarjan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And it will still probably get 28mpg on the highway. Maybe more if the pistons are lower compression. (yes, they really do get good gas mileage)
- cbuddha42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Was waiting for someone to point this out. When accelerating the huge engine is going to waste lots of gas. No matter how slowly you try to accelerate with a 6.2L engine, you will use way more gas than you would with a 2L engine. However, at highway speeds the biggest factor in gas millage is drag, and the corvette has most every car on the road beat there; the cars that do beat it probably only occur in very low numbers. Lots of low end torque should also help drivers keep the revs low and burn less gas. Finally, although we don't have weight numbers yet, I'm willing to bet this thing weighs lots less than the average sedan. Car weights have been constantly on the rise, and these days it seems like the average is up around 3500 pounds if not over. Recent Z06 cars have been weighing in around 3100 and I would expect to see this around there or possibly below (I don't know why no one makes 3000lb cars right now).
That said, your not getting the gas millage of an efficient econo car on the highway, and it is going to drop like a stone once you come off the highway and start stopping at lights. That's not what this car is about though; if you don't want to pay the gas bill don't buy one; if you want to be able to drive to the track and blast down it in the same car, then step on up. - 30thElement, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3As much as the 600+hp engine is, I think I'd prefer the C6 Z06 for the $30,000 less it costs. But then again, I can't buy either.
- partsguy74, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Best comment today.. I love it.
- mcse2k3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5No, just a lot cheaper!
- l33tsauce, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4lol the Z06 already having problem putting power to the ground. I wonder what this thing going to do :)
- manmetropolis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3All I know is, DAMN! Bad ass!
- BigGrant, on 10/10/2007, -13/+15Now we just have to wait for all the tree huggers to show up saying no one needs this ...
- garbs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Neither of the cars you mention handle like that vette...sorry
- cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That HP number is lower than I've heard will be offered. 750 is what I've heard and is much more likely output. Still, I want one.
- knowitman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually it's a smaller engine. Last I knew 6.2
- fixedcoma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1looks like a vette mixed with the new porsche GT! at least the handling will be better!
- kertong, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3More like the "Poor Man's Corvette". (No worries, I had 2 z28s and a trans am also).
