- dolemite5005, on 11/07/2007, -10/+58But in the end you're still rollin' a Chevy Colbalt.
- republicker, on 11/01/2007, -20/+37A cobalt with a rocket engine is still a ***** car.
- GrayOne, on 10/30/2007, -9/+26It could have teleportation capabilities and a time travel module - It would still be a GM product and a Cavalier.
- swicepick, on 10/30/2007, -1/+16The Cobalt is good and all, but I have one message for GM...
BRING BACK THE GRAND NATIONAL!!! Now that was a good RWD performance car. (You may all now digg me down.) - angrycat, on 10/30/2007, -1/+14Looks like it'll be the next SRT4, the original SRT4 that is, not the abortion they have now.
- Thaddeocious, on 10/30/2007, -10/+23Something tells me this thing is going to be overpriced. Who puts 260hp to the front wheels anyway?
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -5/+150-FABULOUS in under 6 seconds! Fierce!
- armourer, on 10/30/2007, -4/+13***** car? No gay person I know would be caught dead in cobalt.
- undeuxtroiskid, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10The Cobalt has stuff in common with the Corvette? I have to disagree. The only thing they share is the Chevrolet name.
- gtluke, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8haha awesome
your mazda 3 is a ford focus you idiot. - ninjacob, on 10/30/2007, -1/+9FWD = economy and straight line racing from a roll. It's only fun if you like spinning tires, understeer, and torque steer.
- ninjacob, on 10/29/2007, -1/+9WTF? FWD is better for the snow, and to keep noobs and women from oversteering and running into trees. Corners are what FWD does POORLY. Your tires can only do one thing at a time well...steer, accelerate, or brake.
- OneAMCoffee, on 11/01/2007, -5/+13Yeah you do realize though this is aimed at the track and not at the drag strip? I have an 06 Cobalt SS Supercharged and its a fantastic car around the track, its not designed for drag racing. To the guy that said '5.7 seconds, lots of cars do that' you also realize you listed all cars with more displacement and rear wheel drive, right? And to the guy that said its not a serious performance car, you know the Cobalt SS came in first in time attack trials, in front of the EVO and all godly Skyline GT-R? Oh wait, its a ***** car... Learn to stop being so biased, 'Chevy sucks, Honda sucks, Ferrari is over priced', shut up and go back to hole.
- ez12a, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8uh you're comparing a Chevy cobalt to a M3, 300zx, etc... Do you see what you're doing? that is fast for an econobox, and is almost up to par with a WRX. (and no i dont like the cobalt).
- askjeffro, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7You do realize that your Mazda 3 is built on a Ford platform right? Its shared among the Ford Focus, Mazda 3, Volvo C30, and Volvo S40.
The engine is the same engine they put in the Ford Focus, which is Mazda designed. I could go into more specifics, but its not worth it. You apparent blind bias is is misplaced as the car you drive holds a significant amount of American and European design in it, just like many of the domestic brands in the states. - snotrokit, on 10/30/2007, -2/+90-60 in 5.7 does not a sub 9 minute ring time make. Still, I don't think I would be caught dead on "the ring" with a Cobalt. Kind of like showing up to LAN party with a Celeron.
- jsully, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7I have to say that GM has come a long way - the newest LS engines are nothing short of amazing, and they've gotten on the reliability train much more quickly than Ford has. I might actually buy a Corvette - it's the only American sports car I'd consider. Hell even Top Gear had good things to say about it. They need a sweet MR setup to totally win me back to America though. I'm still looking for something to remove the Elise from my wishlist.
- Lennox24, on 11/07/2007, -1/+8My 01 cobra does 0 - 60 in 4.9 seconds stock out of the showroom
No, no it doesn't. - ORiONXxX, on 11/01/2007, -0/+7i love my cobalt. *puts on flame suit*
- buddyw, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6That feeling you get when the car straightens out after you punch the gas on a rear wheel drive car after the apex of the turn is the greatest feeling in driving in my opinion. I would never own a front wheel drive sports car for that and many other reasons. Also, in able hands, too much oversteer is much safer than too much understeer.
- davewashere, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7I'll digg that up. The GNX was so good they had to stop making it. GM couldn't let a Buick have better performance than the Corvette.
- askjeffro, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6If by "crap mustangs" you mean V6's sure, it will smack it. But a V8 Mustang with its Rear wheel drive will still beat the crap out of this thing. It's only hope is in the turns, but with so much torque to the front wheels, I expect there to be significant under/over steer depending how they set it up, so even the curves will be questionable.
Current stock V8 Mustang posts 5.1 in the 0-60. A 0.6 difference is very significant, and I bet the gap gets even wider in the quarter mile.
Anyway, happy to see an GM finally start re-embracing turbo's in the domestic line, about bloody time. - mwhoh, on 11/01/2007, -5/+10Agreed. FWD FTL.
It may be quick, but does it have to be so ugly? - Dingo128, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5"As said above, it's still a Cobalt. Why on earth would one dump that kind of power and money into an american four-cylinder?"
I don't know, why did you dump all that money into a Ford Focus, err I mean a Mazda 3? - Stereotype77, on 11/01/2007, -8/+13Still ugly as *****...
- jackwk, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5I'm not impressed, the guys from Top Gear did a time of 9 minutes around the Nurburgring in Ford transit van!

http://tinyurl.com/2ql6zw - CopperGoddess, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5A cobalt tried to pass me the other day. On a flat stretch. It sounded like a moped trying to accelerate. Took absolutely forever for it to pass me.
I drive a geo.
Tell me thats not sad... - robinsoe, on 10/29/2007, -3/+7Nissan has done it too. Sounds dangerously good to me.
- ninja0, on 11/01/2007, -7/+11it's a cobalt. need i say more?
- theblooms, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4"Having had a few GM cars ... Their reliability is *****.
alfredomancho, you do realize that the Small Block Chevy is the most reliable engine ever made, don't you? Nearly 90,000,000 of them have been produced over the last 60 years, and are still being made today. They are so simple and bulletproof, that even if something does go wrong, it is generally easily fixed with some simple hand tools. And in the case of a complete failure (rare on engines under 250,000 miles), a brand spanking new one can be purchased for well under $1000. Name another engine that can claim that. - BigATB, on 10/29/2007, -1/+5FWD does only one thing well UNDERSTEER
- jcaino, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4bring back the gn/t-type or skylark gs with a fresh incarnation of the 455 stage 1 / stage 2 motors, please.
- rondeth, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3An 87 GNX would be my 'dream ride', and has been for some time. Not flashy and not the fastest ride ever, but man there's something about those cars (IMO at least). Cheers!
- jsully, on 10/29/2007, -4/+7Mmmmm... torquesteer...
- mustang460, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3only this one will hold up after 20k miles of abuse ;D those ecotecs are great engines
- cawpin, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3Again, you obviously haven't sat in one.
- swanny89, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Mustangs are rear-wheel drive like proper sporty cars should be.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/14234/2007 ...
- nollid007, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3OK, let's hear what speed machine you're driving...
- swicepick, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4Wow, way to go for stereotypes. "ANY Foreign Car." That's the biggest exaggeration I've heard in a long time. I'd take this over most of the competing imports out there, possible exception of the GTI. (Which is probably more expensive.)
- OUChevelleSS, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3I am really sad that 260 HP deserves an exclamation point. My SS produces 450HP stock...too bad it is from 1971.
- BassCadet, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3LOL Time Attack trials.
What universe do you live in that you think a Cobalt is in the same league as an Evo? I want to know how that Cobalt was prepped that it could put up that time. Stock vs. Stock or modified $ vs. modified $, a Cobalt is in the little boy leagues compared to an Evo. - HappyScrappy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3I looked it up, there has one been one recall on the 2006 Cobalt.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/RecallSearch. ...
Yet you say "A couple recalls"
Liar. - Brianguy2000, on 11/06/2007, -4/+7I bought an 06 cobalt with no power windows or cruise control or any other fancy crap because I wanted a cheap car... holy crap it really is a cheap pos. I've taken it in for a couple recalls in addition to my glove box that broke, the shifter assembly had to be replaced, and the door panels are popping off. My car has a little more than 20k miles and the damn thing never stops having problems with the cheap ass crappy interior. I'm never buying anything made by GM again.
- FLaw, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3This should put a smile on your face.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7221798819 ... - borninda818, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3that only has 200 hp and torque. It's slow in comparison to this. However VW was ridiculously conservative with the turbo. A $600 ECU upgrade boosts HP by 60 and torque by 80, granted you use 91 octane. GTIs have always been tune up cars. You rarely keep it stock.
- REUYL, on 10/29/2007, -3/+6Make it RWD.
- FLaw, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3I'll hold out on bitching until i find out the price.
- Davekcon, on 11/01/2007, -1/+4what time attack trials
