I agree.
But 'all things' includes moderation, itself.
Thus, even our 'moderation' should be taken in moderation.
Accordingly, sometimes you need to be radical, and not moderate at all. - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you're smart, you've rigged your computers to blow up if anyone tries to remove them. IEDs--not just for Iraqi freedom fighters anymore!
- opera, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4generalleoff, you think someone shouldn't just get a fine but be put to jail for 5 years? How reasonable punishment, I suspect you're American. Look at the violence in your country, look at your punishments. Look at this balance in other countries. See a relation?
No, in most sane countries a crime like this (it's a crime but a very small one, doesn't harm anyone physically, doesn't harm one person, and doesn't affect anyone except the isp and end-user) is considered just like that - a small crime. For that you get a fine. No federal organization bust you down like this. It's normal police work. Your leader and his party has done a good job making his population believe these crimes are big. Look at violence, bigtime economic crime, rape etc. That's big crimes.
Your view is not biased, it's completely insane. But then again, in what other country would Bush be elected... - eatasandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm going to bed and I've switched off Bittorrent. Anyone want my bandwidth? Give me your email address and I'll send it on over for the night. I get up at 6.30am PST and usually check my email first thing, so if you can send it back on over at about 6.45 that would be helpful. Will consider splitting it into 1GB bags depending on how many people are interested. We'll work out my fee later.
- aitikin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Am I wrong or is this ANCIENT news, AKA 4+ years old?!
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They sicked the Fed's on them for speeding up there net connections.
Wow just another reason why you should not use cable for your Internet access.
1) bandwidth caps.
2) gig per month caps.
3) restriction on running server or p2p software.
4) releases of your ID infomation to RIAA, MPAA groups.
5) Unwanted visits by the FBI. - spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Do all things in moderation and you will be fine."
Sweet, thanks for the tip!
I'm going to go rob a bank now. In moderation of course. Anyone want to join me? - drshabazz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1opera you make incredible logical sense. WOW. just wow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Charles Darwin is alive and well and living in Toledo.
- enjourni, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1The FBI needs someone in congress to finally pull in on the reigns on this crap. Uncapping your modem a FELONY? As if wanting to play Half-Life at fast speeds is in the same league as raping someone's child.
The FBI didn't just charge the man with a crime, they ruined his business by taking all his stuff. "We hope these cases have deterrent value..." In other words, there is no intent on giving the man justice... the only intent is to ruin him so badly that it scares other people. Where is the the justice in that? Aren't we a country of law, not of imperialism?
This sort of insider view of the FBI truly disgusts me. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>"All of Japan points and laughs."
"LMFAO...and ***** in the diapers that they are wearing on the overcrowded trains. Yep. They got broadband but lack sanitation. I'd rather it our way thanks! lol"
That's CHINA you ass-backwards inbred hick. Japan is civilized and is not suffering from population explosion.
"stfu u irrelevent *****"
kramer3d: how exactly is this "irrelevent" [sic]? the first few comments people were talking about Usenet as a fast medium. I merely pointed out that FTP is way better (not to mention safer) than the Usenet. So why don't you eat a bowl of my nuts and STFU you ignorant tool, no one was even talking to your fat retard ass. - MadCabbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"I'm going to go rob a bank now. In moderation of course. Anyone want to join me?"
If you're driving the getaway car, I got shotgun! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The fact of the matter is we ***** our selves on a daily basis and you know what they dont want to loose money so we will have slow speeds for some time!
- mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know this one guy who was KILLED by the FBI just for talking about this - trust me, it's not worth the risk
- jessed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The post date is 2002. I've got an idea, let's consistantly recycle old news over and over on digg. Lame.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3but is that extra speed really worth a visit from the FBI?
Yes - Totally, Just uncap your neighbors connection, connect via wireless and the feds will just come knocking down the wrong door, Sure it's mean... But Maybe you really wanted that neighbor gone? - mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know but I have nothing but good things to say about my cable connection. I get constantly good speeds both down and up. My latency in games (when i play) is near none and I pay about $35USD a month. It could also be the fact that my town is littered with old people who don't know what a computer is so I'm probably the only one in town with a cable connection.
- Bigbro69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"CHECK THE DAMN DATE ON THE STORY BEFORE YOU DIGG IT, PEOPLE"
And read all the damn comments before you whinge, asswipe. - malkdome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0old news... but the issue was Buckeye Cable had their cable high speed capped at 1MB at that time, and they wanted more speed and found out how to do it, right after this happened they upped the cap to 2MB, and today its pumped it up to 5-8MB level. the problem was these modifications they did would grab the whole bandwidth and slow or even stop others on that hub and disrupting others services.
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The nice thing is the Cable company left my service uncapped after downgrading! They didn't flash the modem to go at slower speeds. Sweet. Wish the upload went more than 50 though.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My upload and download is around the same... My max upload is around 70KiB/s, although I've seen it get into the 80 and 90s... my download normally maxes out just over 100.
I want faster intarwebs ;o; - pritch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With regards to those complaining about the upload bandwidth, the sad fact is that cable will, in most cases, never give as good an upload bandwidth as xDSL. The upstream is (generally) at an end of the frequency spectrum where all manner of things interfere with it, and suffers greatly from interference from DECT phones, baby monitors, your neighbour's dodgy cable box, the lot.
- StickyDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just noticed how old this article is...

Oh well i guess i can't be perfect at everthing. Rofl ;) - RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good job FBI!
Great way to spend resources! - xombie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all i can say is that uncapping is something i would be happy to have knowledge in doing. thx
- fatsobob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If your not worried about the company throwing the book at your ass, you have nothing to worry about.
- tidejwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IT is if they don't end up pressing charges! :) Besides, Comcast admits I'm not getting the speeds I pay for (and it's not because of other people in the area using it instead, says tech support. . . it's just not working right), if I up it one or 2 MB/s I'll just get what I pay for :)
- nacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+02002? WTF?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't it amazing how much influence broadband companies have in the US government? Just because you uncapped a modem, you're treated like you built a WMD. I wonder if the US government wouldn't be so protective of this industry if so many US politicians weren't stockholders in telecom/cable companies and media companies?
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like the submission which shows How To Uncapp has been removed from the front page. WTF Have diggers turned into pansies? I thought this site was founded by TheDarkTipper, someone who wasn't afraid to reveal edgy topics. Has money changed his position? And yes, hurray for all of you who knew about this story 80 years ago - congratulations - we're all lame compared to you (who gives a *****). Props to SeanCarter22. http://digg.com/mods/Tutorial:_Hack_Extra_Bandwidth_From_Your_ISP

- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well i guess know who is writing the FBI's paychecks.

- lnknpk04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to live in toledo and had buckeye cable system. They're real big on cracking down on people for ANYTHING.
- krinn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No digg. This story is old. Here is a more recent update: http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/33596
Some of the charges were dropped. A few plead guilty. One guy went to trial and was acquitted because the terms of service didn't say you weren't allowed to modify your modem.
Apparently the cable company rewrote the contracts after that. So the lesson here is, if you're thinking about uncapping, check the contract to see if it's actually prohibited. - jeromehorwitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We're all equal under the law my tu-tu....
- kramer3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"***** bittorrent, p2p and usenet... it's all about FTP, baby. been getting hooked up for the last 8+ years now."
stfu u irrelevent ***** - wickedsun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who needs to uncap when you have a 17/1mbit connection for 30euro a month ;)
- paralax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't this old news?
- regionzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I already get 32mbit/sec off usenet.
- StickyDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW... what a bunch of pricks working at the cable company. And does the FBI not have anything more important to do? It's nice to know that paedophiles, rapists, murderers, and terrorists are all still wandering around but people un-capping their cable internet are caught.
- LiThiuMElectro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the kind of subject who split my head right in the middle to let my brain go.
Stupid ISP who are capping up/down. I have cable at my house 700d/70up (Canadian ISP) fair enough.
here my little story:
Back i the day i had to cut cable Internet because of the cost i then register to 56k isp *grin* was the worst think ever. One day my windows crashed took a screen shot (because i made a collection hehe) Sent the screen shot to a friend a .BMP (paint/win98) i was on my damn 56 uploading at 48KB/s sent the damn 1.xxmb .bmp in like 20 sec i was cap to 10 or so. But only this little damn file could run this fast..
That's why the Internet "speed limit" is ***** i discover that this day and now i say BS at ISP who give 50-60up on Cable and charge bandwidth what is the difference between you watching 24/7 TV or you downloading 24/7 stuff. Its only freaking electricity impulsion or something like that.
my 2 cents -
