- JaceFuse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You could build one yourself, or you could buy one of the kits such as the kind available from SlikStik. http://www.slikstik.com Personally I'd probably for the kit even though they're kind of expensive. They really are pretty slick.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remember vidcasts of Hak.5, 4 & 5 for more references.

- Inthraller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0An arcade cabinet needs a trackball. Its a little pricey but it gives you a bit more games and makes windows easier to use. Plus, a CRT is not the best option unless you just have one sitting around you're not using. For the money, a cheap TV will give much large screen and honestly, old school games look a little worse on a monitor. However, a 24 hour build time is pretty impressive.
- toyotaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lots of nice pics, but not too impressive.. least impressive, monitor choice. I skimmed through it so I didn't see what size he actually used, but why the huge plexiglass screen with a tiny screen? either spend the money on a large monitor/LCD, or if your cheap go buy a 25" TV for like $150 and use a video card with composite out for goodness sakes! I mean if your playing arcade stuff, you probably want a little bit of blurr since most stuff is using dithering for shading, and sharpness is only going to reveal lots of dots. I hacked joysticks to make arcade sticks when I was like 14, 18 years ago (helps that I lived in the same town as happ controls that sells arcade parts). nice tutorial, but I hope that was his first build.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it seems like it would be easy (or at least simple) to make one - all you need is a big wood case, some joysticks, a big crt monitor, and a computer with MAME. what else is there to it?
- elpottsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You only built that cabinet because you saw Hak.5 on Digg last week, oh wait you haven't actually even built it?!?
- Rggoalie3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old news...
- Qopax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the wiring for the controls and woodworking doesn't seem like simple stuff to me, just check out the pics yourself
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0woodworking skill
- BadMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wanna build one using linux as the OS. I found some info at: http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/linux.htm, but I'll have to play around with it and see if I can get it to work.
- Jay2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ACtually, the wiring isnt too complicated, theyre just simple momentary switches going into a keyboard encoder from what ive seen. The woodworking, on the other hand, seems like the most dificult part. I plan on building a cabinet when i get some, yknow, money.
- jodamiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Twenty-four hours seems like plenty of time to build a story about an arcade cabinet.
- baldinaustin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's mine:
http://www20.brinkster.com/mymame/
Things to note: low profile due to the LCD used, subwoofer in the base pointed down (thumps the floor hard!). I've since added a trackball (kid's Crayola Trackball mouse with a serial connection) and a usb blue led volume know (doubles as spinner for Tempest if you like it). Pics to be updated soon. - AdamHaeder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with inthraller, you've got to have a trackball. My cab took a little longer than 24 hours to build, but I did add 3 joysticks and a trackball.

lol
I don't see how the wiring could be that complicated - computers do all the electronics work for you most of the time - plug this into that jack, plug that into that jack, blah. I can see how the woodwork would take some time, but if you have a workshop and the plans ready, not too much. - threeepwood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hak.5 isn't a vidcast (one camera, one angle), it's an iptv show (multiple cameras, multiple angles)
- edrift101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool tutorial! I gotta build one of these.
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+024 hours? Not counting going out buying all the stuff, making room for everything in the garage, asking friends for tools...
- grendel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i dont want to check out a vidcast or links to hak pos casts...
damn people just love buzzwords... - tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If i ever have a couple free weeks, then i might do this
- adam8281, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This is sweet, I'm gonna do this one day
