- RuckusNutz, on 10/11/2007, -8/+31The downside is that it has a solid rear axle. To do 700hp justice you need front and rear independent "wishbone" suspension. I can only imagine the wheel hop and inherent ***** handling of this solid rear axle. It's been mustangs downfall for years. A waste of fuel in my own opinion. Sure, it'll go fast stoplight to stoplight, but 700hp in the corners is useless without 4 tires on the ground. Dual coil overs or not, a solid rear has way too much torque wrap with that much power to transfer it to the pavement in the corners. In the corners is where the race is won. Plain and simple.
- craig4, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29when it is a mustang no matter how much hp it has, its not worth 72,000.
- Beevo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19@azdraon:
Only in a straight line. I'll take a M3 any day over that if there's more than one curve between points A and B. - retral, on 10/11/2007, -7/+24You mean how many gallons per mile? :P
- FoolishMortal, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19"Where are you going to be able to do its full speed though?"
*Points at the nearest highway* - scallon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Not a driving enthusiast are you?
- Wonderkind, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17Pant pant
Maybe if I move to a smaller house... - spectre_25gt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Still a solid rear axle. Far from 100% different.
- geometry, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18Power means nothing unless you can get it to the ground. And like it or not it's still built on the same platform as a $16k Mustang.
- vawksel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17Yeah, and in the end you still have a freaking SOLID REAR AXLE with no limited slip diff...
Screw that... I'll keep my e46 M3 with 333hp.
I'll be flying by you at the track when your 750hp car is sitting in the ditch, probably upside down. - BlackAle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Is this a new HP printer?
- redrock34, on 10/11/2007, -14/+25I would rather buy a BMW M5 or even a Dodge Viper before even considering buying a Mustang with that much horsepower.
- trghpy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15@betterth
I think those that can afford and are considering to buy a 725 horsepower car can probably afford to forgo the factory warranty.
The horsepower numbers aren't exactly spectacular any how. With the right mods you can upgrade a ton of different engines past 700 HP. - capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12right after the cops try to pull me over for speeding. ;)
- BobSutan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10@TalkingBanana & capiCrimm
I like the way a friend of mine puts it, "A ticket is just a tax for driving the way you want to." - greenamp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11You could spend 34k on a WRX STi , drop 10k for tuning upgrades, and have an AWD 4door with ~500 whp that will smoke any POS Mustand Ford makes.
- Azap, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12i found an ols buick on craigslist that had 650 hp for $18,000
- betterth, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14INACCURATE!
Once you go above the 600HP Shelby Supercharged version you forgo your ENTIRE WARRANTY for the last 125hp!
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/05/shelby-releases-super-snake-gt500-details/
"On top of that, turning your GT500 into a Super Snake will cost at least an additional $28,000.
Sure, that price could buy you a second Mustang, but instead your Super Snake will be boasting 600 horsepower. You can order up to a 725-horsepower Super Snake as well, but the cost will be significantly more and you can kiss that factory warranty goodbye if you go all the way." - RadioFreeOpium, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Nice, even though I don't like muscle cars 725hp for $72,000 is not bad at all. I would like to see the specs though (0-60 time, top speed, 1/4th mile, etc.)
- Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@johnny23 (#7037178)
Right before you stop off for petrol, for the 10th time. - spectorv, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15Very Very Nice!
- Yashar, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13True, but it's a damn good price for a car that can push out over 700 horsepower.
- betterth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9This source has the information wrong -- at 72k you get the 600HP Super Snake, and will have to pay substantially more and lose your warranty to have it tuned over 700hp,
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/05/shelby-releases-super-snake-gt500-details/ - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Not a bad price for a 750hp monster.
- AceTracer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Does it still have a live rear axle? It's prettier than a Z06, but I think I'd still rather take the latter for that kind of cash.
And I've only ever owned Mustangs. - Spyscience, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6awesome!
- RuckusNutz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@Nordiskt: Because myself and a few other people like to have what us humans call "fun".
- duke, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Wake me up when it comes with an aluminum block.
- alpha94, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I have a Cobra and I would never spend that kind of money on a mustang. The point of these cars is that they are cheap power. That kind of price range demands much better quality cars and for that money I could put a lot more power into my existing Cobra. I can't stand this new body style either.
- Sharky35, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4LOLOL... Sorry, I'm still laughing at YOU... LOL
- drakino, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Thats because the 500 hp figure is power the engine puts out. Drive train loss and other things account for the ~450ish measurements on a dyno. A 10% loss is actually pretty good for a car.
So a 725hp car should put 650 to the ground assuming the same loss. - geometry, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8@toonpang
Solid Rear Axle = Very old technology, good for trucks and off road vehicles but horrible for road performance
Weight = close to 4,000 lbs? The stock mustang comes in at over 3,900 lbs. the bigger engine, super charger has to make it weigh more even if they use light weight materials. Lets see you push that kind of weight around a corner.
Carbon fiber mirror covers ???? How much power / performance do mirror covers add? And don't tell me it makes the car lighter.
You're paying for a name and a flashy looking car that will be torn apart by cars half it's price in any canyon.
When will American auto manufactures step up to the plate and make something that is competitive with the European / Asian market? - st3vo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6All I can say is 2008 GT-R.
- sathishcj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Is this a railroad engine - why the heck does it need 725HP
(Though railroad engines have far more hp - greater than 2000. Talk about raw muscle power) - tomz17, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@azdraon
Depends on what you mean by outperform... The new M5 will slaughter this thing on a track, and I don't use the word slaughter lightly.
@pointandclick
Corvette?
The british lotus exige will very handily outperform the corvette in any and every test and is very similarly priced. The bmw Z4 M is about the same price as a vette and will also outperform it on the track. I can go on and on... - bobdobolena, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Or you could buy a Hayabusa for 11K, and run circles around the mustang (or any car) all day long... Mid 10's in the 1/4 mile stock...brakes, handles and corners better than any car (stock that is...I know there is a few cars out there that can run with a bike)... Throw a turbo on it and you better own a good set of leathers. I know I'm gonna get dugg down for the motorcycle comment, but if you're that obsessed with speed a mustang is not the thing...
- Sharky35, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Or for 12k you can do all these mods for yourself. Including bullet proof internals.
I know. - greenamp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5You don't know what you're talking about. There is PLENTY out there from the asian and euro markets in the sub 50k range that will easily compete with the likes of a GT or Viper.
- betterth, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Or a 600hp Z07
- Beelzebub, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6*gets towel for drool*
wow - KayIslandDrunk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Who cares? If you can afford this car why would you be worried about gas prices?
- z3021017, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6@ johnny23:
Ahh the good old loser flyby. - Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It depends on how hard you step on it. More power doesn't necessarily mean lower mileage. It just lets you choose to burn a lot more gas in a very short time frame.
- greenamp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5You don't drive drag cars on the roads, you drive them in a straight line for 1/4 mile at a time. A solid rear axle in a car pushing 725hp , with more than half of it's weight in the front is just asking to be wrecked.
- rarson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Let's see: how about Bonneville? El Diablo? Autocross? Track days? Hell, most places are only about $20 for a full night's racing at the 1/4-mile. Back when I lived within an hour of the track, I'd go up just about every weekend when they were open.
There are plenty of environments set up for a person to explore the limits of their car. It's not hard to get into these activities. And top speed is just a tiny piece of the performance of a car, one that really doesn't matter much to most enthusiasts. - doronster195, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Now if only we could combine it with the new Priuses (Priusi?), we could have a 725HP car that gets 125MPG!!!
- Sharky35, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3LOLOLOL................LOL..........oh did I mention? LOL
- orxor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Also it's probably not 600hp. Just like the 500hp Mustang is around 450hp if you test it on a dyno.
- Vector713, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2only 72000?
oh. - MondayJBlack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Meh, I'll just make one in Forza
