- MCA2142, on 11/05/2009, -2/+45Yes. Let's just put ***** magnets on the computer.
- Stephenishere, on 11/05/2009, -2/+16The magnet one doesn't seem like the greatest idea. I bet they are pretty weak, but still... magnets near hard drives are a nono even if they are weak.
- uptwolait, on 11/05/2009, -0/+11I'm gonna try it right now. Well, they don't seem to want to stick ver
- RubberSumo, on 11/05/2009, -0/+9Apart from a stack of books those stands do not look like minimal effort
- Vusys, on 11/05/2009, -0/+64th doesn't look very stable.
- kevn11, on 11/05/2009, -2/+8Who the ***** needs a laptop stand?
- keyo, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5I have a book or a coffee table, or just a table.
- king_aaronj, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5well... so long to uptwolait. I'm sure we'll see him when he finishes re-formatting his PC and reinstalling his OS.

- gsfgf, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4I'm glad my macbook never gets that h...sizzle OUCH!!!!!
- ThantiK, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3The "pretty" metal one near the bottom, is a piece of aluminum bar you can buy at any home depot or lowes. It's usually in the isle with the rebar and so forth, it's 1/2" thick. A fairly LONG piece of it (about 6ft) is about $12. If you have any kind of metal cutting saw (reciprocating or otherwise) & a drill, you can make one by hand.
Just remember before drilling through the metal to take a punch and punch the area your going to drill (you can actually do this with a nail if you don't have a proper punch laying around) so when you start drilling the bit doesn't slide all over the place and make your hole off-center. - acary, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Well, some of these are cooler than others, that's for sure. Love the cardboard! But not sure I'd trust my laptop to it. Others are, shall we say, a little avante trashy for my taste...
- dtele, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3I tend to use my lap... thats what the laptop was designed for
- emkaysmith, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3On a recent trip up Nawth to Pittsburgh, I stopped at Ikea and picked up a Dave. Best computer-related purchase I've made in years. And it's probably cheaper than some of these DIYs would cost to make.
- zip000, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2I've never really seen the need for a laptop stand. I just leave it on a table or my lap.
- mGARANDEUR1, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3Or you could actually just keep the laptop flat on the table. That works too. Here's a thought, clean out your laptop fans so you don't need to waste time building a fugly stand.
- pinkcherry, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2The Fap N Crap.
- thejav, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2All of these look ***** terrible.
- 1nhuman, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2My favourite laptop stand is a desk.
- king_aaronj, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Dude!!! How did you get that picture from my bathroom?
;-) - My571k, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1books
- Tavares91, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Best one:
http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/10/24/great-diy ... - ATH025, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I just use an old (and big) binder. Works perfectly.
- inactive, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I'm starting to worry about the heat from my laptop lowering my sperm count.
- MCA2142, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Faraday cages are cages. Made of wires, meant to block incoming/outgoing radio and EMPs. What you mean to say is that they are in a metallic enclosure, that block ingress EMPs.
- mudgie, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Haha, I was thinking the same thing. You don't even have to be a techie to know that magnets and computers get along like a cat and a running lawnmower.
- mudgie, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1All of them are ugly except for number 4, Fancy-Looking Minimalist Metal Stand. And even then, it's a lot of effort to save a little bit of money.
Why not just use a couple of packets of printer paper if aesthetics aren't your bag? - CeeJayDK, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I'm all for cheap and easy.
- wristlock, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Is it wise to put magnets on the bottom of your laptop?
- jeremanrox, on 11/05/2009, -1/+1All of them are neat, though the floppy one gets a digg for teh number of ppl on digg who dont know what the hell a floppy is.
- mheyk, on 11/05/2009, -0/+0I like the floppy idea since theres no use for them anymore
- ThantiK, on 11/05/2009, -1/+1Actually, hard drives are in Faraday cages so they aren't affected by weak magnets (the neodymium ones will still rape the hell out of your data though as far as I'm aware), and since we've moved away from CRTs...on a laptop, magnets are generally harmless. Even moreso if you have an SSD.
- Goldin, on 11/05/2009, -2/+0I'm not sure I agree with placing magnets anywhere near the bottom of a laptop.

What is Digg?
