Internet Archive mirror - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"don't care that this is an old article, but that it is a DATED article. Dull Dell gray? When is the last time a Dell computer, notebook or desktop came only in gray? At least 3 years now."
**Looks at work issued gray Inspiron 700m**
You sure about that? - PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@elranzer: You know, I've heard it from the grapevine that _vinyl_ dye works wonders too...
- grimreaper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Link no longer works. $digg--;
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old or not, new to me, thanks for the Coral link for this, as the OG is dead.
- superdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who paints their laptop anyway? hahaha weirdoes. anyway, i guess it's a good find for those that are interested.
- MrFurious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Cant be that old, the dude has osx86 running."
I don't think that he's running OSx86, looks like WindowsXP with a Mac background to me... - Jong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Corel Cache link:
http://spiike.shadowdragon.net.nyud.net:8090/laptop%20painting.htm - Xophmeister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I painted my laptop a few years back - was quite scary, but I masked it up really well! Not a drop of paint got where it shouldn't have... I haven't got any images to hand, right now - but it looked pretty sweet (I used car touch-up paint). It was my FreeBSD book, so I got a sillouette of Beastie made in black vinyl to stick over the front - Damn, I wish I had some pictures now :P
Unfortunately, my laptop sucks and it never really worked properly - I haven't used it in ages because it's hit-or-miss as to when the battery/power supply is going to short out and take everything down... Not very useful when your recompiling a kernel :( At least it looks cool - so it's kind of post-ironic modern art, or something. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks good, a nice shiny blue
- ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I reccomend painting something similar first. Like an old calculator, or something. Learn how to keep the paint thin and consistant, but still a solid color.
Also does anyone know of Pearlescent (aka Chameleon) paint in a can. I would love to do a blue/green job when I get a new MacBook. - Phaliure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ever since Hackers have i wanted to do this. Never have i had the guts
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cant be that old, the dude has osx86 running.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know what I am so sick of all the whining here. If you don't like it or you think it is stupid, don't comment. It takes more time and energy to post then it does to not post at all. I for one think it is pretty sweet, and when I get the money to get a laptop, I am planning on painting it.
- knellotron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I reccomend using Krylon's Fusion paint. You don't have a wide choice of colors, but it bonds with plastic perfectly, and requires no sanding. It's super-easy.
- jafojsharp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, that is not for the faint at heart!!!! How many people are going to brick their LCD screen doing this. Definetly a cool article, just not for the n00b. I DIGG IT!!!
- squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think he went to way too much trouble to paint this thing...but it looks really really good
- Skizzot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know it is old, I just know a lot of people that want to mod their laptops and dont know where to start. This may be dated, but it does show some insight on how to get started.
- hockeygoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have 2 identical old sonys I might have a go at doing this to. It has given me a bug. However, once searching the web for other projects I came across this.
Noooooo!

There is a reward out for anyone who can track this thing down and bin it. :D - raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I could see the point in painting one of those cheap Dell's...
But a sexy Thinkpad or Powerbook? That's blasphemy. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Vynel dye. That's what you want to use. Bonds to plastic, rather than coats it. Doesn't scartch off, doesn't run or drip. Perfect for game systems, and game controllers too. Impossible to use paint on controllers cuz handle will wipe off the paint (I know from experience). Vynel dye is the best way to go with plastics, even more so than plastic-friendly acryllics like Plasti-Kote or Fusion.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's my laptop paint job if anyone is interested.

- AndrewTechie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Umm...digg effect killed it I believe....
- laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0notebookforums.com the guy posted a bunch of tutorials on the dell forums way back.
It's probably the best website for breaking info on alienware and dell products/rebates/sales etc. - Anchoret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0>Is there that big of an audience for laptop painting that I have to read this as the top post on dig? >Maybe I'm in the wrong community.
I came to that conclusion yesterday. This merely reinforces it.
We are to paint our laptops because it "looks awesome," according to the article's introduction.
Digg is mainly about satisfying the "awesomeness" appetite of a userbase not only too illiterate to write a declarative sentence but too bone-stupid to use a spellcheck when one is provided.
Pathetic! - rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This is all crap. I used a roller and latex house paint. 1 coat and I was done! Anytime I get a couple scratchs i just apply a new coat. It looks fantistic!
--dan - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0he also has some like led tutorials on taht server too .. i'd wait a bit to try and see those haha
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0another mirror for you digg noob 'tards that don't know about the numerous web caching services.

you're welcome ;p - DeathTrick, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I agree with the king. Is there that big of an audience for laptop painting that I have to read this as the top post on dig? Maybe I'm in the wrong community.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0PAINTING your computer is a sure sign of HOMOSEXUAL tendencies
I would hope you have better things to do with your time
