- IceSabre, on 07/25/2008, -0/+63Next tutorial: How to make bail.
- zippe, on 07/25/2008, -5/+67"james bond"? hardly.
besides, couldnt a cop follow you and pull you over easily? - Ansem, on 07/25/2008, -1/+50This has a relation to James Bond how?
- maxyRO, on 07/25/2008, -2/+42Uncle Fester?
- joeallam, on 07/25/2008, -2/+40Anyone else expecting some revolving number plates like James Bond ACTUALLY used in the Aston Martin DB5? Let down.
- LiveeviL, on 07/25/2008, -0/+36Is it just me or is the title misleading... When someone says "James Bond License Plates" wouldn't you think a plate that spins to show a different license plate...
- Renster84, on 07/25/2008, -3/+37Dugg for "DIGG IT" plate.
- cledford, on 07/25/2008, -8/+41A Toyota Celica can go that fast?
- RHA0, on 07/25/2008, -1/+22Yeah, those headlamps sticking to your license plate look completely normal to the human eye.
- ChronicColonic, on 07/25/2008, -1/+21That was not 100 MPH.
- xxgigavirusxx, on 07/25/2008, -0/+17I was definitely thinking that this was going to be about license plate changing its self
- opzero, on 07/25/2008, -0/+15Mythbusters did it...fail.
- trotskyist, on 07/25/2008, -0/+14I'm just going to take a wild guess and assume this is highly illegal.
- spiri, on 07/25/2008, -0/+13Exactly my thought. James Bond would never drive around with three huge black plastic thingies stuck on his lisence plates. Plus I don't think 007 worries that much about speed cameras
- blowedupt, on 07/25/2008, -2/+15caught caught caught
- phillyshabazz, on 07/25/2008, -2/+13License (plate) to kill?
- kd1s, on 07/25/2008, -0/+10A smart person would embed them in the plastic bumper that surrounds the license plate.
- leonardoty, on 07/25/2008, -1/+10Just steal a license plate.
Problem solved. - Pzycho, on 07/25/2008, -4/+13Just so everyone knows, traffic lights are also controlled by blinking IR lights at a certain frequency. The controls are used so that emergency vehicles can change the lights so that they can safely pass through the intersection. If this device you make from this video is mistaken for you trying to make a traffic controlling light, it is something along the lines of $1500 for possession and a felony if you are caught using it.
Just FYI - Zenham, on 07/25/2008, -0/+8Yeah, they really should mention that this would constitute a far more severe crime than speeding in most states.
- Elliuotatar, on 07/25/2008, -0/+8There was a local guy who had rigged up his plate so he could pull a rope he passed through the trunk to make it flip up. His mistake was using it repeatedly to pass through EZ Toll booths on his way to work every day.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 07/25/2008, -3/+11At the end of the video, the plate flips down revealing a rocket launcher
- jupaneanu, on 07/25/2008, -4/+11Wish I had an Aston Martin Vanquish to use these license plates...oh well, my old car will have to do
- BeachShackBBQ, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7isn't someone going to notice those huge black headlamp things stuck to the back of your license plate?
- sexybobo, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7Until you get caught with them and arrested for some stupid reason. I have learned pissing off cops is not a good idea.
- Pzycho, on 07/25/2008, -1/+8btw, those devices are called MIRTs
- BryanJK, on 07/25/2008, -3/+10You might also want to know these are illegal in some states.
- zodieman, on 07/25/2008, -2/+9Where's Jamie and Adam to test this out? Confirmed or Busted?
- Kenzan, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7Or perhaps you should pay more attention in English class.
- frostbyt, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7If you really want to be all James bond you would line the area around your license plate with these. Then wire it to a button near the driver.
Or just don't break the law. - EarthernJar, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Yes: I was expecting to see a vid on how to make your license plate flip over or rotate on a spindle or something.
- RomeyRome, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Listen to you upstanding citizens. Take the principle & expand on it a bit to make it truly stealth & wire it to your battery via a switch.
- brycehebert, on 05/03/2009, -0/+6No, apparently that looks normal to the human eye.
- crapmatic, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6Here's a better idea -- get a bigass ball hitch that obscures most of the license plate. That works for a lot of rednecks around here. For bonus points you can get a poorly designed license plate frame that isn't mounted right and obscures most of the numbers. Chances are if you get stopped the cop will just make you fix it.
- justice7, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6tether it to a rope.
- oneredeye, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5"reflector sleeves" don't do anything, don't you watch Mythbusters? Besides, many states outlaw reflector sleeves.
- bodies_collide, on 07/25/2008, -8/+13how about a plate switcher like in the transporter. that would be a sick hot to.
- dupswapdrop, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6I am going to stick those IR headlamps all over my car so no one will be able to see me at all! The traffic news guy will be pointing out the UFO in the carpool lane!
- RNEMESiS42, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5***** yeah, I do that and drink my liter of Jack Daniels in the car DAILY!!!
- manitoba98xp, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5Yeah, seems to me a filter would solve this problem – besides, if you got caught doing this, you'd be charged with a lot worse than speeding.
- breser, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4Except the blinking rate of that device is nowhere near the rate required to trigger Opticon light sensors. Heck in some areas they even work off visible light not just infrared. As far as I know it's a misdemeanor everywhere unless there are extenuating circumstances (you cause an accident or kill someone with the device). One guy used one for 2 years to speed up his commute and only got a $50 fine. So really, you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's unlikely this will be be confused with a traffic preemption device.
- gridbread, on 07/25/2008, -3/+7I'm still wondering if there is way to fasten your license plate loosely, so at high speeds it vibrates enough to be impossible to read.
That would be slick. - inactive, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4With a little imagination and a wing..sure! y not?
- jester55, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4Are all traffic cams sensitive to IR light? If not then this would be useless against ones that don't.
- sl9sl9, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4Why are they outlawed if they don't do anything? (serious question)
- Sandtiger, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5Send it to mythbusters!
- DrDabbles, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4They are outlawed for the same reason using your cellphone at a gas station is usually forbidden. Stupid people believe stupid claims with no evidence or testing. See also: politics
- denied, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4My last speed camera ticket was very bright out, and they capture digital video as well as stills, seems that you would need a massive IR blast to trick a camera, especially a video camera, under daylight conditions.
Their test looked like it happened near dusk and with still frames, I'd guess that's optimal for this to work but what would it take to make it work during broad daylight? This definitely needs a test, vehicle has plenty of power that you wouldn't need the pre-built headlamps, just a handful of LEDs, a reflector, and wire.
Could you mount enough LEDs inside your backup lamps or some other reflector already on the back of the car? That would be 100% stealth, if it worked. - Necrid, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4James bond needs to know how to dodge traffic tickets!??
Last time i check' t, the man had a license to kill....
A james bond license plate = a Square plate whit 4 numbers, that will turn around for every street he in. -
