- kukkurovaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If only I had a TI-83, a TI-Graph Link cable, an external 9600 modem, and a wall jack.
- kamisama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great my Ti died about 4 years ago, now i miss it again. Used to be huge fun to put in your maths, chemistry formula's. Heck at our school they were even used in history class to store dates of events
@bndocksnt : Oh because you can run it in a screen, less prone to virri and spyware that may be attached, it works in txt mode like email should be ... there's lots of good reasons why pine is still used today, and it won't go away anytime soon. - chmod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"If only I had a TI-83, a TI-Graph Link cable, an external 9600 modem, and a wall jack."
Exactly how I feel, however this is still pretty sweet if you happen to have the hardware lying around. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1:Prompt A,B,C
:Disp (-B sqrt(B^2-4AC))/(2A
:Disp (-B-sqrt(B^2-4AC))/(2A
:) Much better. http://www.cemetech.net - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry for the tutorial
- imjustabill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sure everyone has that ol' 9600 modem laying around collecting dust.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it work with a TI-83 PLUS?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome work! I have been doing calculator programming for a while. BASIC is literally the easiest language out there. This is all I do in Chem class or Math. If you want a very brief (VERY) then here it is... i will show you how to make a program to put three variables into the quadratic equation on a TI-83 +. It should work with the others too.
PROGRAM:QUAD
:ClrHome
:Disp "A"
:Input A
:Disp "B"
:Input B
:Disp "C"
:Input C
:Disp ((-(B)) + (sqrt) (B^2-4(A)(C)))/(2A)
:Disp ((-(B)) - (sqrt) (B^2-4(A)(C)))/(2A)
:Pause
:prgmQUAD
This will input the variables into the system then spit out the answer from the quad. equation.
This prgm. will help in physics and math 20/30
enjoy!
(what an easy language) - teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unfourtunatly I just threw out 3 of those particular modems, "When am I ever gonna need these again?", I said. "I can't use these anymore!", I said.
Never throwing anything out again. Ever. - AM088, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because in most classes you're not supposed to take out your cell phone, but you have a calculator which you can use!
- symtic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/71/7116.html
Check this, a newer version I believe - tombomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty sweet/ Now only if someone hadn't jacked my TI-83......
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, I could see myself doing this in high school for those boring math classes.
Have the whole assembly in my pocket, and then just run a cable out to the calculator on the desk. - hamoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A lot of people still use PINE. Very popular with the faculty at my university.
- Vector713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what, no pictures!?! :O
- mhl12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0links for the software is dead. (not the digg link)
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm... I smell a sophomore hacking project!
Next year, Algebra 2 and Honors Chem 1 both require a graphing calc. I have a cell phone with bluetooth. Now... where can I get either a graphing calc with a usb-host port or a serial port bluetooth adapter?
This should be fun. Browsing /. during chem... b/c Digg doesn't have a mobile site or an API.
Digg ++ - Addaone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone else out there store formulas and definitons as strings in their calculator to cheat off during math tests? The new ones make it so easy to do that.
- kcahon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know this is old (circa 1998) but I ran across it and I've never seen it posted on Digg before. I have been a member for a fairly long amount of time and have read Digg every day. If it was posted awhile back my apologies.
- n1ko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Calculator hacking is probably one of the only things that kept me sane during high school calculus classes.
- Winblade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hahaha! Awesome! Now I know what me and my TI-83 calculator will doing tonight ;)...
- WDot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Addaone: I tried making a chemistry formula sheet that would automatically give electron information, but lack of knowledge of BASIC string functions kept me from doing it. =P (I know how now, but I don't take chemistry anymore) However, I have a friend who programs BASIC formulas into his calculator so he can graph/solve anything in his Precalc class. Very up-to-date to.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All I need is the modem...
- torindkflt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If I remember correctly, there's also something similar to this for the TI-86, although it's not quite as capable as the TI-83 version (I remember reading in the documentation that the TI-86 version can't do IRC or other things that use similar protocols).
- mikwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@jimXugly Its not possible yet, but if you get a TI-84+ and a neat program called usb8x (http://usb8x.sf.net) which lets you connect USB peripherals, but you'd have to write the driver, so good luck with that.
- penguindude15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1not to say it isn't cool, but if you want to use the Internet use a computer.
1. it has color
2. it is better to use (for typing)
3. more stuff like programs and games
4. etc. - japanlover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hasn't this been around for a really really long time? hahaha...
- drunkJerkface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty bad ass!
- spencerdubya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a TI-83 program and will not run on an 83+, 84+, or the 83/84 SE models without some modification to the code. Also, keep in mind that you'll be doing this on a 96x64 screen, so it'll be hard to see much. As for the serial GraphLink cable, I'm not sure anyone sells that nowadays (though you can make a similar one yourself, reading ticalc's tutorials on the matter). As far as the movies go, that was one of the lead third-party developers on the 83+ platform that wrote a FAT layer atop the usb8x (usb8x.sf.net) driver layer and pulled that movie off his flash drive and played it. No digg, incredibly old news.
- BSherrod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm pretty sure I saw on digg or somewhere a guy was running movies off of an 84+, which is what i have this semester for my Precal class. That'd be pretty entertaining in class.
- hadem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seems lame. Why would you want to surf the Internet on a calculator? Just use the damn computer.
- Don_Quixote, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Does it work with a TI-83 PLUS?"
I doubt it, cause it doesn't work on my 83 plus silver edition. - reaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You don't need a graphing calculator for Algebra 2 or Chem. At least not at my school.
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Soo... Umm... BASIC... is it anything like programming Visual Basic? thats the only language I come _close_ to knowing. Can't wait for C++ next year.
Hardware master, programming n00b. - DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad I went and purchased the TI-86. Everyone is saying the functionality i better for engineers ( which is what i want to become) but there aren't many games :(
- torindkflt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This program isn't written in BASIC. It's written in pure Z80 assembly, as are a good number of TI graphing calculator programs (Even my centerpiece TI-86 program, although written primarily in BASIC, uses some assembly for certain RAM-related functions).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, and to some extent the 84 and 84 Plus Models as well. They're very similar.
- spencerdubya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0JimXugle- no. TI-BASIC is a set of macros, but it's nothing like VB.
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a 486-DX2-66 that runs win 3.1, Norton Desktop, IE 3(?), 3 Com 9600 baud(up to 14,400), and such that used to be on the internet. I don't think I could stand it now, altho it is fun to just shut it off when you are done with it. hehe
Those were the days my friend, we tho't they'd never end, We'de sing and dance and so forth...
Ah, to have a young liver....
Cyborg
nah - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Both links are broken; so this is useless. Would have been cool though.
- DiggThisOrThat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why not just use the brower in your cell phone -->
"Hmm... I smell a sophomore hacking project!

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0reported lame
