How to Remove Sticker Residue the Easy Way - Just erase it off!
kevin-chai.blogspot.com — I stumbled upon this a while ago. You can erase sticker residue! Literally!
- 1950 diggs
- digg it
- saintsfan, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20Omg thats awesome!!
- z00k, on 10/12/2007, -25/+5Add this to a remember me list.
Also cant forget using the salt to remove logos :)
-Zook - FoxFaction, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23zook, i thought it was sugar.
Damn, so much for remembering :( - H0LLIS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I've used the same thing for years, rubbing alcohol, lighter fluid, WD-40, cleaners with orange in them worked wonders in a body shop I worked at,
in a pinch, a little tape rubbed with something hard over the top (like a fingernail) does the job too. - snypa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Baby oil and a paper towel works well too.
- wacki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"Also cant forget using the salt to remove logos :)"
???????? what? - orangemarmalade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@wacki:
to remove those logos on your gadgets, tape off the area around them, then rub them with a sugar cube (or something similar). the abrasiveness of the sugar is enough to remove the sticker without damaging the plastic beneath it. - billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29Flamethrower works.
- bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I've been doing this since elementary school. The eraser Kevin's using sometimes leaves its own residue. Pentel Clic Erasers (http://www.pentel.co.uk/clic_eraser_infopage.asp ) work best.
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, The trick I know is using a blow drier on the sticker as I remove it to dry the glue. It works every time.
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4"Flamethrower works."
So do Atomic Bombs - lobsang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7For a very very easy way, just buy something called "Goo Gone". It removes *any* kind of sticker glue without hassles, and can be bought at any WalMart in the cleaning department.
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2i use goo-gone (from supermarkets/walmart). also, if you're removing parking decals (that are stuck on by years of hot florida sun) and other similar stickers from the glass on your window, use one of those big razor blades (don't cut yourself), and then goo-gone the residue that might remain.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Also use Window/Glass Cleaner (Windex) or some other solvent like WD-40.
(also, WD-40 works great as a thinner, when your White-Out/Liquid Paper/Correction Fluid) dries out and gets all globby) - burdyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing else works but oil
- z00k, on 10/12/2007, -25/+5Add this to a remember me list.
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30I might just try that, although I might need to buy a 50-pack of pencils/erasers thanks to the assholes at EB/Gamestop covering the case in stickers.
- rkettner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Get big white erasers... they work much better, and don't require you to rub the pink away.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9But I like rubbin' the pink...
- b7illsmith, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14A little WD-40 on a paper towel works pretty good as well.
- ihate2regist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11lighter fluid works good too
- MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I've been doing the WD-40 thing for years. i'll try erasers at some point. I wonder if the orange-ish erasers or the white ones work better. I've always preferred the white erasers.
- Chordonblue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You have to be careful using solvents or oils on certain plastics - they'll melt right through.
Erasing = excellent! Every year I get a few students here at my boarding school that think their leased computers make terrific objects for stickers of rainbows, unicorns, stars, etc. This is an easy solution... Well, besides having already told them not to do that in the first place, that is! :) - rolotomasi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2WD40 doesn't attack any plastics. Which means it's also great for cleaning plastics.
- SheepBomb, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14come on fhqwagads
It doesn't work that well, I've tried before, it really just depends.- FoxFaction, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6I really want to digg you for the homestarrunner reference, but it just wasn't relavent to the topic at all. Who are you, Family Guy or something?
- standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11damn you for using h*r to get dugg up.
worked on me, i guess. everybody to the limit.
- pepsihabbit, on 10/12/2007, -16/+11its amazing some of the crap that makes it to the front page
- vermin, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5I was just thinking, this might be a new low.
- Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2It's called "Digg v3"...
- poopguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4it still leaves a hint of goo... next!
- gwinerreniwg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And can cause abrasions to the surface of whatever you're cleaning. Don't do this to something you really care about the finish on.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3OMS (--science)....that guy still uses floppy discs!
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12It's not funny to say oh my science if you have to explain it, so abbreviating something you'd have to explain means that it won't be funny from the get go. Humor isn't your specialty.
- DannySpace, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2What the hell is a floppy disc?
- kevinchai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm so awesome to use floppy discs, they're the best!
- aemaeth7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Goo Gone... commercial stuff that works wonders.
- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I love Goo Gone. It truly is the best in getting rid of sticky residues.
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4It works great if you get tissue stuck to your knob after rubbing one out.
- OAKsider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I third Goo Gone, nothing's better. (citric acid + ?)
- Sumyunguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.biosci.ohio-state.edu/safety/MSDS/GOO-GONE%20STAIN%20REMOVER.htm
- zoomtechtv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Vegetable oil works good also the dude at staples told me. I was looking for this stuff to remove stick glue but i forgot the name of it. Staples sells it online only.
I use the vegetable oil to remove the sticker glue from used video games I buy. - Sazzle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Ah but what about the satisfaction you get after doing it the hard way? Its like picking a scab!! lol
- cmcm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2no, picking scabs is fun...
- icepick314, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12i've been using eraser for years...
the best ones are white erasers...
DO NOT USE #2 pencil erasers!!! sometimes they stain....crappy quality rubber - loveme4iamjesus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ok, who stole my eraser? I want to try this out!
- FoxFaction, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30What if the sticker was ON your eraser? :(
- rmtatum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try rubbing the eraser against some arbitrary surface.
- Surefoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1rubbing alcohol + coffee filter ftw
- Y0tsuya, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Alcohol is my favorite adhesive residue remover, although I try to use the original sticker to pick up as much as I can. Adhesives tend to stick to each other. If the original sticker is no longer sticky enough to clean up after itself, duct tape works well.
- FoxFaction, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5yeah, alcohol is my favorite "residue remover" too. :)
- bmarc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this will come in handy someday, I know it.
- scoyndizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is kind of one of those things where you say "Now why didn't I try that?"
- shinaku, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well, I tried it with a Noris HB pencil and a sticker on a pre-owned game case. I've now got pink sticker residue. Maybe the glue was too tough?
- 2channel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2can anyone tell me how to reduce my bad memory from my brain
- BarriedaleNick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Alchohol - see above!
- sweetmartian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i always use GooGone. it works too especially for sticky stuff
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too especially ??
Wtf.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too especially ??
- camaj126, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Now to get the semen residue off of my keyboard...
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Shouldn't have got it off eBay.
- rlanctot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Insanely jealous girlfriend works well for that.
- bjornlee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1digg's really lost it if this underwhelming stuff can get to the top..
- themoose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And I was using lighter fluid!
Storing that in the memory bank. - OrlyonokEaglet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ah yes, I've discovered that when I accidentally leaked some Super Glue on my desk. I though the staines will be unremovable. I tried different things and then an eraser. And that worked great! Not a trace was left.
I've been using an eraser to remove glue ever since...
Sometimes it's a good idea to rub the glue with a tissue first for more friction. I use a Pentel hi-polymer eraser. - Sangrail, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Surprisingly, I thought of the eraser just a while back. Earlier, I used to think citric acids like orange juice or lime juice come in handy. If it's too much of a problem, scrub it off with soap water.
- johnnycat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I use benzine. Works great!
- morphie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Erasing. Why didn't I thought of that? :P
Works like a charm. Tnx! - frenchy64, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Woah thanks! This is great :D
- anomalya, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1how to remove herpes, erase it off!
- peasly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Careful when using lighter fluid.. too much friction build up and you'll be cooking..!
It's really annoying trying to get that stuff off.. i tried moving it from a lighter i bought, the sticker was really crap.. i was moving it along with my thumb and didn't realise until later on that it had made a blister..
owww..!
I usually hover the thing over the kettle whilst it's boiling (just for a bit) then slide it off with a spoon..
not good for large objects though.. like soap dispenser bottle..! - ArcCoyote, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A pencil eraser is mildly abrasive and will mar some very glossy or coated surfaces.
If some genius plastered a sticker on your laptop screen, you might want to try something else... Like forcing them to lick it off, bit by bit.- bliz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did this since primary school and can attest to ArcCoyote. it's not good on glossy and coated surfaces.
some stickyness is very hard to erase off and the more you rub it the uglier it gets...
- bliz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did this since primary school and can attest to ArcCoyote. it's not good on glossy and coated surfaces.
- SIDSI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Zippo lighter fluid works good too.
- Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh, I knew this for a while. I would have told someone if I actually thought anyone cared. It just seemed so obscure that I never bothered.
- kevinchai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me too. lol
- Recoil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you very much for this tip, kind sir. You are a lifesaver! :D Now I can finally remove that ugly glue from the covers of my preowned videogames.
- ThisIsBob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Polonium-210 has been shown to be effective in laboratory trials,
- namenotused, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Eucalyptus Oil works well.
- wisam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've done that since I was a kid. I thought if is well known. It appearing on digg's frontpage proves me wrong.
- AKron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Must be a slow news day...
- jgome008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pam cooking spray works the best!
- ThisIsBob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pam is canola oil.
- anmol2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OK i knew about this too, but i know of something that is WAY better.
ask your wife // mother // girlfriend to give you nail polish remover.
It is the best thing out there.
But dont use it over kind of a paint or it may come off the surface.- NikonDork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Acetone (nail polish remover) Does work, but be careful on what surfaces you use it on. I will dull some plastics. My mother told me if you have a really stubborn one, put a schtickle of peanut butter on it and let it sit for a while. It will just slide off.
- RGCook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool idea! Now I don't have to waste time with that Goop remover.
- fjleon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why didn't anyone mention coca cola? It's the best for removing stickers
- LeadHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG HE'S RIGHT!
when i tore the sticker off my xbox 360 HD a whole ***** load of residue was left on tha shiny chrome part. yay it's gone now! although it does take a lot of eraser. - SpikeX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Marked as lame. This is, like... common sense. And the photos are bad quality, and, well, it's just lame overall.
- Qtip42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Marked as lame too. Erasers can harm the finish of said product (be it a disk or a laptop or anything). Sugar cubes can harm them too. Use the proper wax & grease remover / prepsol or lacquer thinner.
WD40 stinks, oil leaves a residue.................cmon guys. - JasonDelta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've always had good mileage using duct tape on the sticker residue. Just stick the tape on top of the residue, then rip it off really fast and the duct tape pulls that crap off. This one sounds like another good option though.
- masterdieff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bonus of +5 for using the word "literally" correct on digg.com. Never thought I'd see the day.
- M2i1k6e, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whats a Floppy Disk???
- pvdnyc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what is the square thing that he is erasing on?
