- sugardaddy4242, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Note to self. Don't pass out at a party where someone made one of these. Permanent mark penis is much easier to scrub off than a tattoo penis.
- MikeMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15In other news, 100s die of Tetanus.
- zirtbow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13This really can't be a good idea to use.. Yes, I read the article but crap.. if you mess up or if this thing faults at all then you have basically a permanent mark on whatever you were trying to tattoo. If you actually decide to get a tat for whatever your reason may be just spend what it costs to have someone actually do it. Sometimes it costs a lot if you get a big one but heck.. it lasts forever and its not worth screwing up.
- cmiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Later on, we'll be posting the article to make your own home lasik eye surgery laser gun out of a flashlight, some tinfoil and a whole lot of courage!
- mulegulch1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I knew this one guy in prison that could make beautiful portraits of people with a homemade gun. Alas his nickname was "ghost" because his price was heroin and he did so much of it
- Exempt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This has to be old, I was doing this like 17 years ago. My worst mistake was getting a tattoo with one of these guns, I am scheduled to have it removed in a few weeks.
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Now everyone can their own skank-o-lious "lower back tattoo" or their own Chinese symbol that begs you to ask "WTF does that crap mean?"
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No, but it's a tattoo gun with a non-easily-replaced needle... hep is definitely in someone's future.
- molecule56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Now you too, can enjoy such diseases such as Hepatitis C. This should come with a link to build your own autoclave. Leave it to the pros, people.
- Raptor7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm worried enough that a professional tattoo artist could accidentally mess up with a sneeze or a sudden flinch, let alone someone on their first try, with a homemade gun.
The only good thing that can result from this are videos of intense hilarity, coming to a YouTube/google video near you. - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7 Hear that little voice telling you not to do this? Listen to it.
Then again what if you could combine this and an old dot matrix printer, the auto-tat 1080i? - alexp2ad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Somehow, I just wouldn't trust a tattoo gun made with a pen and a toothbrush.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6 The term you're looking for is Tramp Stamp lmao
...if a girl can stretch around to tattoo her own back, I'm gonna want to meet that girl! - MrHoeCakes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7They can make guns and alcohol too... Yeah, those prison inmates ARE pretty smart... Well, except for the getting locked up part.
- jimmsta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is a good idea...
Actually, this is a really, really bad idea. - danz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Having 1/2 my body covered in tattoos I have spent a fair amount of time in a tattoo shop and this is not anything new but I will vote to bury this story due to the danger factor. Putting anything thats not sterile under your skin is just too dangerous. There are always story's of people getting tattoos with these machines and coming out great and not complications but the large majority there are problems.
- bieber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He probably shouldn't have showed this to us geeks. I predict _way_ too many shoddily drawn Tux and/or Apple tatoos showing up in the near future...
- vvaduva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is irresponsible. Hepatitis is rampant in cirlcles promoting home-tattooing. Bad bad ideas to even attempt to use this.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5These tats are the source of many a hepatitis case too. If you use one make sure it's sterile.
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yay for hepatitis and AIDS!
That was really worth saving the 50 dollars on a professional tattoo. - nerdofnerds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Smart? Hardly.
Innovative? Definitely! - lethalpotato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5dune, i take it you havent seen the site hackaday.com
- dagr8tim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hepatitis anyone?
This is the dumbest thing you can do. The equipment is not safe, nore is it clean. These guys don't use gloves, individual ink wells, and most have probably never heard of an autoclave. Plus lord knows what kinds of toxins are in home made ink.
This article should be filed under how NOT to go about getting a tattoo. - dogbyte_13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3article should be how to get hep, and make crappy tattoos.
- ziggy110, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I built one something like that back when i was 14.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6When I am in prison, I got my best tats from guys on heroin.
- VPurpmalkV, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Ok. First. I'm burying this story mainly because we don't need more untrained idiots out there trying to do tattoos and giving legit artists bad names
Second. IT'S NOT A ***** GUN!! Does it shoot projectiles? No. It's a machine. A Tattoo Machine. It's been a tattoo machine for years. And it will always be a tattoo machine. Ask any tattoo artist. And if a tattoo artist refers to his Tattoo machine as a gun before tattooing you. I recommend you stand up. Get your money back, and go to a competent artist that knows a little more about his trade.
No I'm not speaking from inexperience. I worked in a tattoo shop for years, Helping maintain these machines was one of my duties. I called them Tattoo Guns for the first week I was there. After a week the artists beat it out of me, and I referred to it by it's real name. A Tattoo machine. - wmattison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder when people are going to start posting instructables on aluminum foil pipes, and bongs made from 2 liter bottles.....
- 81v3d07g0d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Most people don't know that part of apprentice training is building your own guns, This item is far less homemade junk and pretty near the real thing. Despite the lack or some prefab parts its almost exactly what they are using in studios all around the world.
By the way its not the gun the causes problems at all. its the idiots who have no idea about sterilization and ink depth, giving their buddies homemade tatts is were all the horror stories come from. - Gruesome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Better than the story was the scintillating repartee below the Instructable. I laughed my ass off.
- oDin420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3haha u said penis.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm not all that crazy about having ink in the first place.
but interesting hack. - VPurpmalkV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't down tattoo artists that tattoo from their home. I know some that do. Of course. They do it in rooms that are tiled. Sterilized, and used specifically for tattooing. They autoclave all of their tools properly. Dispose of needles, bars and all other bio hazard materials properly, and are easily cleaner than some of the crappy tattoo shops we have in our town (which is one of the reasons they tattoo at home.)
But I can understand what you are saying. There are far too many people willing to tattoo in the kitchen of some ghetto ass run down house for a couple bucks using a piece of ***** machine like the one in this how-to, and scar someone for life. Those are tattooists. - BeatnikDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know it. It's only for men though, go to bed little boys.
- damndj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One of my tattoos were given to me using by creating a gun out of guitar string, hollowed out pen, and a remote controlled car motor. This was 13 or so years ago and the tat still looks good today.
Wouldn't recommend it though! - slink3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I was in middle school, my buddies brother got out of prison, and made a tattoo gun the exact same way. This sure brings back memories :)
- Thornfinger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This honestly sickens me, as someone that has body art done professionally. The last thing that I want to do is let some unskilled hack with a home made tattoo gun touch my body. Honestly, this is just asking for trouble.
If you want to be a tat artist go through the gruelling apprenticeship, and from there learn the profession properly.
I have a friend that had someone do a tat with one of these and honestly, I didn't have it in me to tell him that it looked like crap. Professionals are professional for a reason.
Using a gun like this, and the inks etc, is just asking for trouble and being scarred for life. - b403, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Great for prison.
- collinder, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2by far the worst thing you could do....
i really wish i could strangle every tattooist that does tattoos out of the home...
i say tattooist cause they are far from artists...
i hope this person slips in a puddle of aids and cracks their head open....
www.bigtimetattoo.com - VPurpmalkV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm not trying to censor information. The information is out there. I just think that if we sit here and sensationalize it on Digg, someone will get it in their head to use one of these things. If you want to learn how to tattoo. Got to a tattoo shop and ask for an apprentice spot. If you're not willing to go through that. You probably don't want to be a tattoo artist bad enough. Freedom Of Information is an awesome idea. But would you be happy if someone posted how to make a 20 megaton Nuclear bomb on digg, with detailed instructions on how to make it out of household objects, and words of inspiration to get you to use it after it was built? The scale may be out of whack on that comparison. But someone trying to use one of these machines could butcher a person. Perhaps cause a bad tattoo on the light side, and on the darker side, cause a horrible infection, and scars that never go away. There's more to tattooing than just picking up a machine and "drawing" on someones skin. There's a technique to it. There's sanitary issues. And there are specific types of ink that should be used. Showing someone how to make a ghetto prison tattoo machine and telling them to use it isn't information that is going to lead to a positive situation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2step 1This is what we will create and what you'll need
Materials:
-one Bic pen
I stopped reading after that point. NEVER use a Bic pen, or similiar pen for putting ink into your skin. Tattoo ink is special ink, that WON'T poison you. Bic pens aren't meant for this.
This is just stupid and dangerous. No digg. - collinder, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1yeah his name was percy waters and people who do this make him roll in his grave...
- Offill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2As much as some of you would like to bury this story for being a really bad idea, Don't.
It's not up to us to censor the information. - BeatnikDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed.
This specific article is not a safe idea. But the truth is people are and have done this for a long time, and still do it now. But it is INTERESTING and IS happening, stories like this are good.
Please don't bury them. I am here to read interesting articles. - Serok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A friend of mine made one of these back in High school.
He gave some nice tattoos with it.
He has since moved on to professional equipment (and tattoo shop) and would not recommend it to anyone but it did bring back some nostalgia. - 1968gto, on 01/29/2008, -0/+0i was wandering what kind of pen ink works the best to do tattoos with
- bloodcircle, on 11/12/2008, -0/+0Well, you see mr smack addict offering cheap tatts, you obviously don't walk up and ask how much, sit down and let him start with his toothbrush rig DO YOU? Or do you and then you cry about how it was a homemade rig and how it is such a bad idea?
I don't get these people saying how this 'sickens them' because THEY wouldn't let someone else use it on them - much like you wouldn't get in someones home made space shuttle and wait for lift off before thinking "Oh yeah, maybe not a good idea, I better go bag ***** out of people for making space shuttles in their kitchen," - NO ***** ***** SHERLOCK. But don't begrudge the concept.
If barry moonbeam wants to make his own rig for his own use, who gives a *****. As others have said, a lot of people have had experience with home made rigs, and give tribal tatts a thought - bone and ash. ZOMG those natives, how sickening.
BTW, I have a half sleeve teburi traditional tatt which was done entirely by hand and stick. Guess the professional that did it, was fooling himself since he refused to use machines at all. - 1968gto, on 01/29/2008, -0/+0you are ***** dumb and i hop you die
- jacket00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome, I have a mod for a tattoo removal machine, it involves a blender a fishing rod a bag of cement, a reclining chair (Leather or vinyl preferred) a ball gag, a getaway vehicle, anasthetics, a gun (just in case) and as long as we're on the prison topic....
- Boobaloo, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0For know all about Tattoo i recommand you to go visit this very great and complete tattoos forum:
