Looks cool, I may try it. - aAnaRchY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Xmm..now i can make this "http://digg.com/links/A_car_mp3_player_from_old_PC_and_custom_parts_" even better!
Thanks for the info :) - beni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was disappointed. I expected to see some code, not "solder some wires, install plugin".
- marzbar329, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SWeet i got the first digg!
- worthless77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0seems like alot of work to me. i just have a remote with an IR sensor. that works great for me.
- chrisbudden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shame my laptop does not have a COM port :(. Also, you could do a cool case mod with this aswell.
- ploafmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And poor Spudmom. "What would you like as if?"
Come on, dude. The good ole' speel cheekr can't fix your grammatical errors too. - bozomozo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oops wrong link... http://mtvoid.com
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My WinAMP controls are on my logitech wireless keyboard. Sorry but, no digg.
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dear Winamp,
When will you support 5.1 surround sound? It's 2005. Until then, no dice.
Love,
Me - ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0-5 cool points to chrisbudden for not understanding what a COM port is.
- Kashey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a lot of devices that use serial for uploading firmware.
- cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Win Amp still exists? roflmao.
- bozomozo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok this is kind of interesting but honestly I reckon it is a lot cooler to use a Bluetooth remote control like ControlFreak (http://mtvoid.com). Of course you need an S60 phone first :)
- comrademikhail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Dear Winamp,

Umm.. Winamp has supported surround sound for a while now. I think it was 5.1, so it wasn't that long ago (it did take them too long), but it does work for me. Do some research before you comment next time ;). - MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool idea, but seems like a lot of work for something that can be done with a multimedia keyboard that comes with decent software.
- darkone_05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good tutorial. This plugin has ben around a long time. A couple years ago I made an external winamp control out of an old RC car remote. Check it out if you like http://www.geocities.com/darkone_05/winamp_control.html
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love Winamp, its the best free player for me.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0foobar2000 for me. That and iTunes for podcasts. But nice digg, I am looking to do something like this with my old Gamepark32, its got no backlight, and it's 'A' button doesn't work, but I need to use that great LCD screen it's got for something!
- CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And a hacking up a usb keyboard would work for USB also with hotkey settings
- Crazy_8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ebob
Actualy, I have 5....
2x on my main desktop, 2x more on my second desktop, and my laptop has one. All of which are from withen in the two years, so none of them are old. :) - Krozgen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dugg this mainly for the reason that it's nice to see a basic tutorial on how to create an external circuit that interfaces with a computer, with working pictures and links :) I hope (and this goes out to all you diggers in the world) that someone can either link to / explain how to do this with USB...? My laptop, unfortunately, doesn't have a serial port.
Oh, and as to all you guys insulting winamp... why comment on something that has nothing to do with the post? If you're gonna make your voice heard, don't do it by being an ass. Winamp is wonderfully made, free software from Nullsoft, and it has no spyware or anything like that. It's remained pure through all these years, so I'll say again... don't rag on it :)
If any of you have a USB version, let me know! - naiserie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0foobar n/m
- LittleOni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But it's Winamp.... I don't dig the llama. -digg
- zone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have a multimeadia keyboard and i hardly ever use it (the mouse is faster). cool project tho, seems simple and effective.
- turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Very explained"?
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ComradeMikhail:
You're right actually. It's now supported in the newest version. Just downloaded it and it doesn't work. Oh well. - pHr34kY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I built a joystick version of this once. It supported 4 axis and 4 buttons - used it as a mixing desk.
There was no plugin to drive it so I wrote my own, it scored 3.5 stars... but yeah, I'm a geek.
The idea of a COM port is OK, but if you find a joystick wiring diagram, you'll see that you can do a lot more with it. - omnithrope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know I'm probably "missing the point," and he made it "because he could," but why not just buy a remote for your PC? (Like StreamZap.)
And, who the hell has a com port anymore? - Trublmakr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like a pain in the ass,.. I've got a wild and crazy idea,.. use a frikkin mouse.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WINAMP > *
- Crazy_8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"And, who the hell has a com port anymore?" -omnithrope
Well...every one I know does...and I have 5 of them my self.
My Shuttle XPC I just got about two months ago has 2x COM ports. I used one for an UPS. - SadBeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whats wrong with winamp?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0My Remote Wonder controls Media Player Classic just fine.
Why would anyone use Wincrap anyway? - Superc00kie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Mine still has a com port...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://tinyurl.co.uk/nvk7
- ebob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Who has a COM port on their computer anymore?
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0ebob - Everyone has a COM port, as its not a physical port jsut a communication location. The jackass that submitted this meant SERIAL port.
