- hadees, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14It would be nice if there was a summary of exactly what you can do.

Searching google for "free nuclear reactor from bicycle parts" returns 210,000 hits... - dgp1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Regarding the Verizon RAZR (v3c): IF you follow the directions perfectly ( http://wiki.howardforums.com/motorola/index.php/Motorola_V3c_Tutorial:_Flashing_to_Alltel_User_Interface ) you can get back FULL functionality (including Get It Now) on Verizon's network with the Alltel firmware with ONE exception - VCast doesn't work (which would cost you $15 a month extra anyway).
My friend and I both flashed to Alltel and we are both SO crazy happy about it that I would recommend it to anyone with the skills to do it. - jeylux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8nothing that it doesn't already do unless you're on verizon...
if you're on verizon just flash to alltel firmware, and then you can have a regular razr finally. - Massif, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9For all your phone hacking needs, go to
http://www.howardforums.com - BlackNute, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5My battery lasts for 3-4 days with considerable talk time, I dont know the industry standards but it seems quite nice to me. There are 2 things you should do to improve your battery life though, turn off the screen saver and turn off the key tones (that sound it makes when you press each key). Both those help alot.
My main tiff with the phone is its horrible firmware. It is very very slow and not very intuitive. Flashing does not improve this much; Though, in hacking my phone I was able to increse the volume of the earpiece (one thing that many people have a problem with) and also turn off that annoying sound it makes when you use the side buttons. - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I did this to mine before I broke the screen. It was easy to do, but there's not a lot of benefit if you have one of the newer software revisions already on the thing. You can fiddle with the graphics and volume and such, but for the most part, there's very little to change that's not just eye candy.
Of course, if you have one of the older revisions of software like I did, then upgrading the software will get you video recording capabilities and a few other goodies. - scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@bury
I was on a forum and someone suggested it and I've noticed quite a bit of boosted performance.
I still cannnot go more than two days without charging the phone. Which generally includes a handful of text messages, checking the news, and a few phone calls. - FenderGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@BlackNute
I agree, no problems with battery life here. Granted I've only had mine about a week, but so far it's a lot better than the LG that I got rid of for this phone. I've used the bluetooth some and talked on it a fair amount without a noticeable drop in charge. And I got mine through Alltel, so no need to hack it for that. - weiran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The problem with Motorolas isn't the hardware (which is possibly the best in the industry), but the software/firmware (which is possibly the worst). I've had a V600 and V3 and they've both had buggy, poorly designed OSs and terrible usability.
Until Motorola fixes its OS problems, it's one to avoid. Sony Ericsson have the right mix of hardware/software quailty IMO. Nokia phones just feel too cheap now, and the phonebook is ridiculous. - tylerman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Battery life is fine on my razr also
I find that a lot of users complaining about battery life have bluetooth running 24/7. Running this just drains the battery like tapping a hole in lake peigneur.
Also having the volume turned way up is another way to drain battery life.
These people also tend to be the ones playing games txting/talking constantly
my suggestion to those "power users" get a solar panel - hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is it just me or is there absolutely no phone that exists that has a good interface or service to accompany it?
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The Samsung A900 is pretty good phone. Looks just like the RAZR, the battery life isn't great at all, but other than that it is much better than the RAZR. Just be sure to turn off the GPS tracking and update the firmware to save battery life and kick some nasty bugs.
- SystemHasFailed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2WTF about my saying FREE didn't you get?
- BlackNute, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I prefer this site: http://www.mark-world.tv/motorola/page1.html
The one linked seems to be a rip of the above site, though not as full. - Proginoskes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My point is that closing the face should be completely non-destructive. I shouldn't have to explicitly save anything to prevent data loss.
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I hated this too until one day I stumbled upon the "Drafts" folder. Any unfinished messages are automatically saved in the Drafts folder. I agree though when you close it, and type your next txt message it should go back to the last one you made.
- itguru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This is what I followed and mine works great. And if you have problems with it shutting off clean the battery terminals. Mine was only a week old and it started to act up. Hope this is useful.

For those who still doubt, it is possible to enable the Multimedia file transfer and it works great!
The instructions leave a lot to be desired, so i'm combining and cleaning them up below.
NOTE: This is "shortcut version of the instructions" has only been tested using Verizons Razr v3c firmware .03 with USB connectivity, Windows XP and the software listed below. Bluetooth file transfers (OBEX) are not supported with firmware .03 even with this seem.
for other information or the complete convoluted & scattered instructions go to http://www.v710.org/mark/index.htm
IMPORTANT NOTE: If your V3c phone has firmware .02 THE HACK IS NOT NECESSARY! Your phone is already enabled for multimedia. Jump to step 17 to setup Motorola Phone Tools (MPT).
Here's the more concise version:
1. Install Motorola Phone tools (works with 4.0.4b and earlier), reboot and make sure you can connect to your phone. (close the app when finished)
2. Install USBSER.SYS (if using win xp & CDMA phone) obtain from http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/DriverTool.zip
3. Install PST 7.2.3 with patch - do a google search for this or beg someone besides me!
4. Install (unzip) PST drivers if you are using USB cable - obtain from http://www.v710.org/mark/Files/E815-V710-DriverPack1.zip
5. Install (not really - just unzip to a folder on your pc) P2KSeem
Obtain from http://www.v710.org/mark/Files/P2KSeem4V710.zip
6. Run PST 7.2.3 phone programmer - Please Note -
The Windows Add New Hardware Wizard should run, automatically search for, find and install the new drivers which you installed in step #4. If not, point the wizard to the folder you unzipped the drivers in. The phone will now be listed as Motorola USB Modem in device manager.
(If your phone shows up in device manager as Motorola USB Modem, launch PST using the Phone Programmer icon off the start menu. Again, if this is your first time doing this, or you have connected the data cable to a different USB port, the Add New Hardware wizard will run. It will try to install.... Communications Class - Control Interface, Data Logging MCU Interface, Test Command Interface, and Accessories Interface. For all of these, choose "Install from a list or specific location..." then click next. On the following screen, to the right to the "include this location in the search" click browse... and direct it to where you downloaded/unzipped the V3C PST drivers to. If the add new hardware wizard does NOT run, check device manager for a Motorola USB Device group with Accessories Interface, Data Logging MCU, and Test Command Interface listed. If you have them, you can proceed. If you do not, unplug your phone, power it off/on, and reconnect. These devices must be installed for P2KSeem to connect to the phone! They will only be listed in device manager while PST is still running so DO NOT EXIT PST! )
PST really gives NO indication that it is connected to your phone. To test... Launch PST... When it comes to the main interface, click File -> New -> Phone Book File -> Ok. You will be presented with Untitled Phone Book File. Use the Phone pull down, and click READ. PST should start reading the contents of your phone's Contacts. If it finishes, PST is connected. NOTE: Be careful when doing this in PST, choosing an improper option (even for reading) can fry your phone!!
7. Leaving Pst 7.2.3 running on your pc, Open P2kSeem.exe from the download location.
8. P2KSeem should say "connected" in the lower left corner.
9 . Locate the LOAD area in the bottom right corner. Change the Seem to 2742 and Record to 1. Once they are filled in correctly, Click the LOAD FROM PHONE button.
10. You will see a bunch of "junk" (really its hex codes, etc) in the top part of the window. Under Selected Byte Details (lower left section) you will see OFFSET:0000 (that is where the cursor is at load time.)
11. You want to backup the original seem. click save to file, choose the location and name the file 2742_0001.bak and ok to save a backup copy
12. Go down to Line 000060 and go over to e3 (may be e2 on some phones)
13. Click on the box for BIT 0 to put a check mark in it. That sets BIT0 = 1 (this turns on the USB File transfer for music/video/pictures in the motorola phone tools software) **do not experiment with any other bits**
14. Click Save to Phone
15. Click Restart Phone
16. Close P2kSeem & PST
17. Unplug the usb cable from your phone, and then plug it back in (this resets the connection with the pc after programming)
17. Open Motorola Phone tools
18. Press or go to menu/setup/general setup
19. click on communication tab and choose change modem
20. click Next 2 times
21. click the box beside "do not automatically detect..." & click next
22. click on Motorola CDMA & choose V3CM & Click next
23. click finish & Ok
Now your MPT software should connect with your phone and show you the multimedia studio & calendar options.
If not, reboot your pc and reopen phone tools to connect again.
GOOD LUCK!
P.S. This worked for me in the exact order, but I offer no guarantees or warranties...use at your own risk! - sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Dont like the look or more likely the feel of the RAZR?
Try the V635 - Same Moto interface, etc. but with a better camera, a flash, EDGE, and a METAL finish on the front and back.
Plus it has a transFlash slot (they make em up to 1gig, i think)
I have this phone, and for the most part, its great -- a lot better than the RAZR, IMO.

- willlangford, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3yes hofo is the *****!
- cozinator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've had problems with mine also. I'm on my second handset - the first one completely conked out.
Sometimes when I pick up, there's nothing but silence and I have to call the person back (clients don't care for that too much).
I had a Nokia before, and it was virtually indestructable. I'm thinking that may be the way to go with my next phone (which will probably be soon). - Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Buy an Unlocked GSM phone next time. That way you won't get "their" locked down firmware.
- phonepimpbill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm so glad I got out of the phone selling biz for one major reason: the stupidity of the people using them. Oh, and also the inconsistent pay and having to constantly police inventory against people stealing from me, including other employees...but oh well, that's another matter. Not that it matters to me anymore, but for the sake of those still in cell stores I emplore you: if you're going to do this sh**, make sure you're going to do it PROPERLY. I can't even imagine having to fix people's problems with halfway done firmware hacks while trying to sell.
As for me, I've been impeccably happy with my E815, though a V3m I might consider. Transflash cards I have found I cannot live without. - SystemHasFailed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Obviously syberghost hasn't bothered to *try* any of those 46000 hits.. :|
- hideous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Still prefer MotoModders and MotoX, but it nice to have all this on one(3) page.
- jeylux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i flashed from the VW firmware to the Alltel firmware.
The only reasons i did it were:
1. I wanted bluetooth to work the way it's supposed to.
2. I hate the vw skin. Now my phone looks and acts like moto intented for it to. - thbt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Agreed... my Razr is a beautiful piece of hardware, but the software blows goats.
I've heard good things about Sony Ericsson too, though I've never tried one.
Best software's gotta be Nokia though. What's wrong with their phonebook? - ninjapirate350, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Try saving the message before closing the face.
- ejaywillie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I donated mine to my less fortunate cousin.
- JamesBrown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@jeylux
I've been a little skeptical about doing that, worried it would ***** up my phone. The phone still works on Verizon's network even with the different firmware? I assume flashing also would stop me from ever using Get It Now again. - imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3what does Verizon limit on the RAZR just wondering (i got one like 3 days ago for free!)???
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Gonna try to do this with a SLVR L7, since the damn volume on the calls is horrible even at maximum, especially in a car you cannot hear the person at all. And i think that is a manufacturing problem, since when you use a blue tooth headset, the problem is solved and you can hear the person as loud as you think, that or the speakers have limitations.
- Proginoskes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2When I said 'irrevocably' I really meant it. I swear I looked in the Drafts folder and did everything else I could think of at the time. Maybe they fixed in the version you have. (Using a Nokia 6620 right now and loving it. So I can't check again until I get home.)
- mongrel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This would be nice to have in Verizon language, as we REALLY got the shaft when it comes to V3c retardation. There is a lot of info out there already, but as the author alludes to, it's kind of all over the place and makes me nervous trying to find a reliable starting point...
- alienz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Motorola E815, great phone, decent MP3 player surprisingly, good battery-life, good camera, very nice screen.
All I hear about from friends with RAZR's is how slow it is to respond to commands. That would drive me up a wall. - SystemHasFailed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Actually what I want is an easy and FREE way to SIM unlock the phone without having to call the carrier. That's the only "Hack" I need...

how do i turn off the gps on my razr?! - MotorolaRazr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Quite nice indepths guys, hayden i agree with you no such phone that is complete in full, i bought my Razr from http://www.simplywireless.com/pagedetail/IndividualMotorolaRAZRV3BlackTopSeller50.aspx, used to support an awesome battery time for the first 4 months but then once its battery got drained completely since then it seems like its talk time / stand by time has reduced ?
any insights - CheesyPeteza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You can give your phone the ability to record videos.
Also you can free up a lot of space by deleting useless files.
I did this for a friend. It makes it a lot more useful and pleasant, I wish this guide had existed when I did it. I ended up reading forums for a good 3 days before I felt I knew enough not to screw up the phone. - SystemHasFailed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Syberghost.. why don't you try some of those, oh master of the google search tool.. :|
- mesostinky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Razr - nice features, ***** battery life. I get 1 day with bluetooth on(mind you I have a headset that I almost never use and many times isn't even near my phone), and 2 days with bluetooth off.
My old Motorola cheapie phone would last forever on a single charge. It is nice to have it fit in my pocket but I hate having to charge it daily. What a pain in the ass. - Proginoskes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3[rant]My Razr (no idea what firmware) irrevocably deletes an unfinished text message if you close the face while composing. I found this out when I shoved it in my pocket when the bus pulled up to pick me up. This is entirely unacceptable. I've written it off as a P.O.S. and a bad purchase (not just because of the data killing problem).[/rant]
/I'm a closet Nokia fanboy - laurentlasalle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Does this works with the V3c as well?
- ocelot67, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not the most up to date info, but good. There are more things you can do to the upcoming V3i. Sorry CDMA, so far that one's just GSM.
- bury, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Does turning off the GPS tracking save battery life or is it just for paranoia reasons?
- e03179, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1 Look around. You'll find legal ways to unlock your phone. Cost me $20 per phone.
- raceman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Like becoming a SPRINT PCS capable phone....!?!?! F'n Sprint doesn't support any of the Cool Phones
