George Mallory's reply when asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest. - Livewired, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9That's not the point.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That summary gave me a headache.
- BrynoMite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6+Digg for effort, but... I think I'll stick with my iPod. Or my CD player. It's cool though.
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4pretty complex CB there.
needs a schematic that i can print and etch. - heavyness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3gameboy mp3 player, nintendo made or 3rd party, their out there...
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=246&products_id=7482& - rafgar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seems like a 'just cuz' type of mod....It's too big to really be worthwhile given how cheap CD players are these days. I've gotta agree though, an MP3 player for a Gameboy would be cool.
- dootisterhans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2intents and purposes?
- conigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Reading that summary definitely made my head hurt. It's either missing words or using the wrong words.
- xioner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Definitely not practical, but an amazing bit of modding. Ahh, the joys of rewiring circuit boards!
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Why?
- BasouKazuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seems like a fun waste of time, especially for the designer of it. I know i would've had fun creating something like that on my own, without instructions.
But in the end, it's just a waste of time. - KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Or better, a DS with a Nano modded in. Itd be like a PSP. With storage space. And good games.
Ok, that would pwn a PSP! - realfinkployd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure how you feel this was a waste of a gameboy, where was the gameboy damaged? (A game cart was but the gameboy was untouched).
- djdole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks more useful as a fire hazard than as a CD player. :-/
Why not just hack an original NES, and use it's case to enclose the CD-drive, and use the AV outputs for the display. You could even get more points by cleverly getting the flip cover to open on ejection of the cd. - eosp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pointless, yet kind of cool. Dugg.
But does it run Linux? - alterself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1interesting....cant see how it would be at all practical tho
i would hope he is doing his best in translating as well, cause that was a hard read. either that his head is full and english took a back seat.:) - dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a game boy MP3 player would be awesome though.
unless there has already been one ive missed.. - sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The end result seems pretty useless, but it's cool that he was able to do it anyways
- cooperaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree, a gameboy/mp3 player would be killer! Especially if you could pop the cardridge (with flash memory in it) out and play regular game cartridges!
- Schmitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1+digg for the reverse engineering effort and knowledge going into this sort of thing. It's never a waste of time if you learn something!
- bluefirestarter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a MP3/MP4 player out for the DS/GBA in japan called the Play-Yan.. It would be easier to import that than do all this.. (They are still debating on bringing it to the US)
- digitalbuzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok pretty cool. but does it come in blue?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought of attempting this but it looks like a little too much work.
- GeekedAtBirth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay, now that's just awesome, though, I'll stick with the iPod. digg
- FatMagic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wow. he must have loads of time on his hands.. nuts!
digg++ for the effort as well - hankosky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mp3 player???
- mr804, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are flash roms you can get for GBA and I think a few public domain mp3 players if i recall. Biggest flash rom you could get is like 2 gigabits. Maybe if you re-encode stuff down at 64kps you could fit a good amount on the gameboy. no headphone jack on the GBA SP though
- Sibertank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The game boy stays in tact....
- TheGalacticFork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll digg it for figuring it out.
Turning old Nintendo consoles into other things(PC cases, DVD players, etc) seems to be the trend right about now. - curtlow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow....this is dumb and a total waste of time.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really weird and certainly not portable, but it's cool just for the fact that it can be done.
- TheRappingShoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg just for being one of the daftest mods I've ever seen. Well done that man :)
- EvilBadger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The title should be how to make a gameboy attached cdplayer remote
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about upgrading this to play MP3 cd's, or even better, play ROM files off of a CD!
Better yet, replace the CD drive with a DVD drive for even more MP3's or nearly EVERY GAMEBOY ROM EVER MADE!!! LOL ;) - will-rom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1agreed. the cd play he used had that as well...
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2turn one piece of obsolete technology into another piece of obsolete technology. nice.
- EvilBadger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ug, i remember buying my first portable cd player for over 100 bucks
- Noelix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I clicked the link expecting to see a portable unit, but instead I see a computer case made out of wood that has an IDE cable running into the back of a game boy. This is hardly useful. Like everyone else on this page, I suggest making it an mp3 player that is portable and appears to all intensive purposes to be a game boy at first glance. Add a backlight and a hard drive inside and we'd be in business.
- skaughtm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1incredible literacy.
- aAnaRchY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Also check this: http://www.digg.com/technology/My_Car_s_Hard_Disk_mp3_player
- evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2LOL, how incredibly pointless. Awesome!
- mercnboy3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2How about gameboy mp3 player? That would be cool...
Digg anyways for effort. - Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1WOOAH GAME BOY POCKET
thats soo gehto! - Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ugly
- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1CD ROM, the 8-track of the future.
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Pretty lame actually
- armin76, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Nice but useless this days
- id000001, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is just dumb, really, instead of going all these trouble to control the CD player, why not just press that "Play" button available on the facial of pretty much 90% of computer CD/DVD drives?
- Pizpump, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Welcome to 1984.
