"An USB Cable"
"Carefully cuts the cloves with a cutter"
"I putted 8 blades (At 23 degrees)"
"In order to make slip inside all the wires" - MoneyShot, on 11/19/2007, -0/+10Not a good idea. All properly behaved USB devices inform the USB controller how much current they're drawing from the bus. When you stick a noncompliant ("dumb") device on the bus, it can cause all kinds of odd issues (esp. if it draws more than 500mA). For example, if you're using an external USB hard drive or thumb drive, I hope you don't mind data corruption.
- rupric, on 11/19/2007, -1/+7I love anything made from junk parts. Not sure I need a tiny fan on my laptop but I love the post... I wonder if you can rig a coffee maker up to the USB.
- Verdanic, on 11/19/2007, -0/+4They're really good at using 'an'. I'm impressed.
- Punisher2K, on 11/19/2007, -0/+4Good. You win.
- wordsthatendini, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3Surprised this wasn't titled as a 'Cork Hack'.
Seems very save to have sharp plastic bits whirling near my face. - tekie261, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3Does anyone here think this is not dangerous? Not only could the sharp edges of the cd cut your fingers, the cork (after a month of use) could deteriorate and then you have sharp, flying bits of cd ready to pierce you skin, superglue or not. Good idea, bad implementation; and the thing makes a hellava lotta noise.
- JudgeMonkey, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3Indeed. Folks, before posting things, you should know you need to run it by gebsta first. Make sure he has never seen it before. Really people, protocols are in place for a reason!
- goerg, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2dunno, but there is a coffee-cup warming plate out there...
- bmorlok, on 11/19/2007, -1/+3video good watch to fan nice.
- dagmar31, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2I don't really see what the big mystery is... obviously, English is not the submitter/video creator's first language. Get over it, folks. Not everyone is American, and not everyone speaks English as fluently as you do.
- jmcqk6, on 11/19/2007, -1/+3a usb fan can be extremely helpful. especially when sharing an office with a person who feels the need to run a space heater all the time.
- saintjason, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2I made one, but it only goes downhill..... lol
- timwizard, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2Did it just say "An USB cable"?
Don't tell me the guy pronounces it like "us buh" compared to "you es bee". - RickyBennett, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1dont know about any one else but i dont want that thing any where near my laptop i like it not having any scratches on it which will happen when that thing starts to fly apart
- havokdu, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1It's a great project as long as you're poor...
- GliTCH82, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1That thing looks rickety. It's simple to make and you can do it free but it doesn't have the quality of some of the better DIY projects.
- socialidiocy, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1cloves?
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -2/+3That's fantastic, I'll see if I can use a bunch of old cd drives to make a go cart or something.
- hugepedlar, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Why not just use a standard case fan and splice a USB plug onto it? Works for me. Sure, it's a 12V fan running on a 5V supply, but it's a hell of a lot easier than destroying a CD-ROM drive and fashioning a set of blades. Cheaper too.
- JCaptainP, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Maybe glue on a case fan instead? The cork and plastic pieces are hard to balance.
- L3ST, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I know it's do it yourself and all but who can stand that awful noise?
- datdamonfoo, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2No. It's phonetic. "An" always comes before a vowel SOUND. Such as hour or honor. Since we pronounce USB as You-Ess-Bee, the y sound negates the use for "an".
- rayraym0fucka, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1This is more fun!
- kurupt, on 11/20/2007, -0/+1Borat? Is that you?! Very nice!
- BagginsBoy, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I'm fairly certain that there is a great chance that one of those sharp blades will come out of that very secure cork and go flying into a LCD screen or two.
- bigal90, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1dagmars got a good point and even though it may look like a rickety piece of ***** give em props for making something somewhat useful out of junk
- drewdown112, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1This is hot
- Niffer, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1The idea is, you get the concept of a DIY fan and run away with it. These kinds of projects are just the thing for an aspiring young nerd like I was. Now I'm an older, more wisened nerd.
- kukon, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1great ideea
- geoblackwl, on 11/19/2007, -0/+0If it had a guard, that would make a great cubicle fart fan.
- SunAlex, on 09/05/2008, -0/+0Great thanks. very great instructor.

the website referenced is "how2make.it"... so if you start doing instructional videos in Italian than you have some room to talk. - baris, on 11/19/2007, -3/+3"Nothing of really special but definitely a Must See"
W. T. F. ? - crimpshrine, on 11/19/2007, -0/+0Where is the video on how to make a broken cd-rom drive from an fan?
- Niffer, on 11/19/2007, -1/+1I think it's more than feasible to rig a coffee maker to USB with the right amplifiers. Might take a few hours to heat up, but eventually...
Actually, I think may have seen this on the interwebs somewhere - doublehead, on 11/19/2007, -1/+1at least they didn't make another bag out of it
- convohypno, on 11/21/2007, -0/+0Pretty Cool!
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -3/+1Ooooh he card read good!
- Sikarian, on 11/19/2007, -3/+1Doesn An instead of A always come before a vowel? Such as An Apple, or An open book. Or if the word begins with a consonant A Book. A Dog.
I guess, technically wouldn't it BE An USB cable? An universal serial bus cable.
Personally A USB sounds better, but I'm wondering about the actual english of it. - GeorgeClayton, on 11/19/2007, -3/+0Wow, this has to be one of the stupidest things ever. A two year old could have figured out how to do this!
You're 10x better off using a 120mm case fan, or 20x better just bing a fan? - hutectro, on 11/19/2007, -5/+1Old story
- gebsta, on 11/19/2007, -8/+1i've seen this video on digg before
