Awesome Carbon Fiber case mod
bit-tech.net — This guy has created what is one of the most awesome case mods I have ever seen. He's used carbon fiber to great effect in conjunction with lots of super-bright LEDs... although I'm not sure if I like the LEDs, they look a bit headache-inducing!
- 532 diggs
- digg it
- pmagayon, on 12/20/2007, -1/+12This case got THIRD place? I'd love to see what took 1st.
- AlphaPrime, on 12/20/2007, -2/+2Funny, 36 diggs and already down. I would literally like to see who got first, second, and third for that matter.
- mortigon, on 12/20/2007, -4/+2poop
- AlphaPrime, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Scratch that, back up... for now.
- Shiner6, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3Maybe the persons case that was actually carbon fiber and not just metal covered with carbon fiber sheets?
- Jonjonr6, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I'm not all that impressed by this case. He would have had better results if he build some jigs and used a router to make his cuts.
Also, it wouldn't be that difficult to make a vacuum assisted resin injection mold and have some free-form peices out of carbon. You can buy everything you need online from Fiberglast.
My case would be aluminum and aluminumize fiberglass (aka "silver carbon"), but a kevlar case would be cool (since it comes in different colors).

- Takteek, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3I don't know who took first but here are some other awesome cases from CeBIT:

- rwallen, on 12/20/2007, -8/+45I'm sorry but this just looks stupid.
- DiggzDE, on 12/21/2007, -4/+2seconded. All that work for a lame case mod
- Harbinger67, on 12/21/2007, -2/+7Thirded. If you're going to put all that work into a CF case, you better damn make an actual carbon fiber case, not just cover a normal one in CF panels. CF is cool because it's strong AND light. Just using it to cover a big steel and aluminum box sort of defeats the purpose.
- smrekar, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1i would be ok with a CF venere, but not accent pieces only and stark white powder coating. i can only imagine it looks better in person. I personally wouldnt put all of that work into something just to put a suse chameleon on the side either. The carbon li grille has potential.
Great skills, great craftsman, terrible design.

- JustinHorne, on 12/20/2007, -1/+26The work is incredible, and I'm immensely jealous of his skill, but I don't like the end result at all...
- CaviMike, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3To each his own, I actually thought it came out wonderful.
- PFrocker, on 12/20/2007, -3/+7the green tubes make it look like it's a radioactive computer.
- legendxx, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2Wow...
- AppleGeorge, on 12/20/2007, -4/+19By awesome, do you mean stupid looking?
- defaultdigger, on 12/20/2007, -8/+1site down........................
.......***** - plash, on 12/20/2007, -6/+1The linux users always enjoy their case bling. would like to see the os mods on it.
- LordSeth, on 12/20/2007, -2/+1I would love to have the time and skill to mod cases but instead I just buy em. I love my Kandalf case.
- n064, on 12/20/2007, -6/+2That is so kick ass, its like having your own supercar...except its a hell of a lot smarter.
- Flummoxer, on 12/21/2007, -2/+3No, super cars are actually cool.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1And can easily get you laid by chicks who think "epic gear" is just the fastest you can drive.
- Flummoxer, on 12/21/2007, -2/+3No, super cars are actually cool.
- mortigon, on 12/20/2007, -0/+7it was white with a chameleon on the side, neon green all over the bottom with neon green tubes on the inside
no mirror necessary- plash, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2the chameleon is the suse logo; a flavor of linux
- notchristopher, on 12/20/2007, -7/+1Mirror please.
- azwaxcats, on 12/20/2007, -6/+0Holy tool time, Batman. This guy needs a life.
- s0lace, on 12/20/2007, -7/+2you.are.a.huge.nerd.
- repete, on 12/20/2007, -2/+0Triumph rocks...:-)
- tomisina, on 12/20/2007, -2/+19all that carbon fiber... that thing must be FAST@!@!!
- muleskinner, on 12/20/2007, -3/+44did it honestly need to be spread over 12 ***** pages?
- digitallysick, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Meh.. I like the water cooling setup, its very clean, but the bottom lights are a bit much. Water cooling is a hassle now days almost not worth the cost of having vs over clock speed.
- minusfluke, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1my VTEC just kicked in yo
- armada8800, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3considering I don't have allot of money I would rather put the money into graphics cards, memory, hard drives, etc.
- thebza451, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1you don't like the LEDs? that's the only cool thing about it..
- sunnychiba, on 12/21/2007, -1/+5In another post, I read these guys were being bombarded with phone numbers and date requests by hot women....
- CaviMike, on 12/21/2007, -1/+10Page 13 is the only one I care about:
http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2007/12/20/carbon_ ...
Not as much carbon fibre as I was hoping but it's still much better/nicer than mine.- Kratos76, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2I'm still looking for the carbon fiber
- Kallius, on 12/21/2007, -5/+2Another lame server down after 50 hits. Buried.
- bman85, on 12/21/2007, -0/+14I totally respect the skill and amount of work that went into that...
But I gotta say that finished product leaves much to be desired... first of all... white??? Conflicting LED colors... the weird logoage on the top radiators?
I don't know... with that amount of know-how and skill, i think something much better should have come out of it. I think he is an awsome fabricator but not designer. - GfunkGbuss, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1It's pretty clean overall, especially inside, but I've seen far more sophisticated and intricate designs, as well as more overall aesthetically pleasing designs. That might work in the right environment, but anymore most people want their PC's to fit in with the rest of their home decor.
- SupaFurry, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1They should use those to guide passenger jets into airports
- merkk, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3Very good work, but it wasnt super impressive. I'd hire him any time to mod my case, but i think i'd want someone else to come up with the design. I mean it looks way better then how it looked before. Just not something i bother to post on digg.
- bman85, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0x2
- cambob76, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1I like it. But dude, invest some money in a real monitor... I mean projector.
- jedimasta, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1Carbon Fiber != awesome.
Why do people assume the opposite?- Sparkster185, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4!(Carbon Fiber) == !(awesome) ??
- MoneyShot, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2Carbon fiber inside a computer case is utterly moronic. It's made up of... little fibers of carbon (a conductive material). If one of those tiny fibers ever gets sucked into the power supply or lands on the motherboard... ZAP! Congratulations! You now have a carbon fiber door stop.
- osbjmg, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1Well carbon fiber is great to shed some weight and provide some support - oh you mean it's not a car? And he's just putting it on top of other materials?
I think we missed a step somewhere guys.
- zomfg, on 12/21/2007, -3/+10a good case is:
silent
inconspicuous
not a friggin x-mas tree of lights.
burried - MattB123, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1I think I must be too old to get case mods. At least mods that are purely to look cool.
- bmystry, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2What liquid cooling system did he use?
- nicku, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7When carbon fiber is truly awesome:
http://www.dynamiccomposites.com/products.html- CaviMike, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Damn, it's too late to get this in time for christmas.
- cabooglio2, on 12/21/2007, -8/+2You PC guys are freaks. Say what you will about the Mac fanboys, but goddamn. Are you kidding me with this *****?
- HaSatan, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2Carbon fiber adds like another 9000 megahurtz!!
- databoy, on 12/21/2007, -4/+0A geek virgin with more money than intelligence. The computer may look good, give you wet dreams but it will not run faster. With the time and money spent, the guy could have found a paying job, built himself a high speed current technology computer, dual 24 inch lcd monitors and run some decent number crunching.
Bottom line: the guy is in need of getting laid by a bad woman who is an uninhibited nymphomaniac in bed, get a life and live in the real world.- lovestospooge, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2You're just jealous.
- smrekar, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2thank you for your absolute douche-baggery. I have contributed 1 bury point to your stash.
- Ediejo, on 12/24/2007, -0/+0@ databoy it’s just my hobby. Before this one I already have a very fast system.
Check this one. http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2006/07/03/Extreme ...
At this moment I am building a new fast computer with a triple sli system in it.
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=145086 ...
So as you can see casemodding is a part of my live. Some people hanging in a bar and spending here money there. I also have a regular job. So I think my live is alright. It don’t give me wet dreams. That are your words.
And about my wife we are almost 25 years together and still happy. Don’t care about that.
- one2gamble, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2The chameleon on the side makes you think suse, but it looks like its running vista?
- smrekar, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1i wouldnt put a giant suse logo on the side of my box...then again, it comes with a subtle apple logo.
- Ediejo, on 12/24/2007, -0/+0I build this case for Point of View and that logo belongs to the company.
- Lane, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1amazing water cooling and no transparent case wtf?
- Zgradis, on 12/21/2007, -1/+4The case needs to look good itself, i mean yeah sure CF cool, but THIS is a case that made my jaw drop... http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p ...
- open2slander, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Wow, a riced desky that's all the world needs...
- whereswayne, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2This is what happens when you get hard work, determination, and fortitude and mix it with bad design sense.
- PabloMac, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1You can polish a turd, but...
- PabloMac, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1I could mount ten bucks worth of sign-grade carbon fiber print vinyl on the sides of my G5 in about 10 minutes and have a better looking case.
- grumpyjoe, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0Stupid! Who the hell paints carbon fiber white? And why use carbon fiber anyway? Lame graphic on the side.
- IanDWD, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1People who think this is cool are the reason Jonathan Ives is considered a god.
- Amebic, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3Man, some of you guys are really showing your stupidity and general twatishness. If you actually read the article you'd see that he's sponsored to do the case - so not wasting his own money and time - and the carbon fibre was just some stuff he had lying around and had no other use for. Yes, it may be a bit geeky, but, goddamn, this is digg so what better place for people to appreciate it.
- Jeezoflip, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1i think its pretty cool except i think he ruined it with the "car" "bon" on the top. It looks dumb.
- CNeovitch, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0Very well done.
- Ediejo, on 12/24/2007, -0/+0I had the change to buy all the Carbon fiber for just 100 euro. That was the reason the I make this case. Normally the Carbon fiber coast more than 300 euro what I used for this system. Point of View supported me with the hardware. So ………. An SLI system for only 100 to 150 euro that’s really cheap.
- Ediejo, on 12/24/2007, -0/+0And it's my hobby. Normally a hobby cost money. By some people is a hobby very expensive. It cost me time. But what's time when you having fun. ;-)
