- Dhex, on 08/20/2009, -0/+50For confused people: Cyanogen Mod is a optimized Rom of Google's Android OS (For mobile phones). Cyanogen rom is the best thing that could happen to your Tmobile G1 (a.k.a. Htc Dream) or your Tmobile Mytouch (a.k.a Htc magic). Why? well..
1. Speed: he removes and optimizes all the ***** inside to make it run fast!
2. Features: Its like Cyanogen is always keeping an eye for any new feature made by the Android community and integrating it on his rom. This includes hacked features like Multitouch, Apps to SD, multiple screens, launchers, fixes or mods as well as features in development by google/htc its self like a better and new camera software, improved google maps, bluetooth A2DP fixes, browser updates, widgets and more and more stuff taken directly from open sourced roms even before the official versions are realeased featuring them.
3. Updates: This is what Cyanogen does best, updating! He updates his roms several times a week hunting any bugs and getting everything to run smootly. Anytime Google releases a new version of Android, he takes it and adds his work/tweaks/features/fixes/optimizations and makes it outstanding.
Ive been using Cyanogen rom for 3 months now and Im very very happy with both my G1 and Cyanogen's Android rom. - mrsteveman1, on 08/20/2009, -0/+41Due to its shape and its affiliation with AT&T, iPhone really ***** you, not the other way around.
- geoken, on 08/20/2009, -2/+35Will this fix the bug that allows the media player to play Nickelback songs?
- SilleeString, on 08/19/2009, -0/+24If you root your G1 or myTouch, you'd be damn near insane NOT to flash a Cyan ROM. Do it.
- ssj4vegita2002, on 08/20/2009, -0/+21Modified version of the Android OS. It has tons of speed tweaks and other good stuff, including some stuff form the upcoming DONUT update. Cyan's mods are amazing. Blows away the stock Android OS.
- RyeBrye, on 08/19/2009, -0/+20Nice mod. If you are on stock, you can currently get on this mod in 5 minutes or less if you use the one-click root app.
- tvgm2, on 08/19/2009, -0/+16The best decision I've ever made...
Well, besides having a bacon sandwich for dinner. - ssj4vegita2002, on 08/20/2009, -0/+15He just takes out some of the bloat, speeds up the processor in the phone to it's specifications, and just generally tweaks stuff. His ROM does apps2sd automatically if you have a partitioned sd card too [normally you have limited space for apps on the phone's internal memory, but if you put a 2nd partition on your sd card, the rom automatically installs apps there, pretty much making unlimited space for apps if you have a big enough card].
His recovery rom is also a godsend. Boot into recovery mode and apply any update from your sd card, get into the terminal emulator to run commands, and do complete backups of your phone. Nandroid is a life saver, I recommend doing one before every update. Pretty much it saves the exact state of your phone. If you mess up, boot into recovery and run the last backup and you're back to a nice working state.
As for donut, the big major thing he's gonna impliment next seems to be Global Search. Flip open your phone and start typing, it will find contacts, emails, bookmarks, etc. No need to go into a specific app to find something. - ninjadave, on 08/20/2009, -1/+16Can someone help me out? Honest question. What is it?
- cyanogen, on 08/20/2009, -0/+11woooot!
- NotSarcasm, on 08/20/2009, -2/+11I hope someone releases a Android build for the Palm Pre eventually. I know someone is working on it. The Web OS is nice and all but the idea of a dual booting cell phone is just too cool
- TheCuso, on 08/19/2009, -0/+8Can't wait for 4.02 with the small bugfixes ;)
- Nhoji, on 08/20/2009, -0/+8I know Cyanogen in real life :) he is my friend.
I am happy for him that his mod is taking off, and respected. - ninjadave, on 08/20/2009, -0/+7So he takes the OS and juices it up? What kind of additions does it have? Whats the DONUT update?
- faceless323, on 08/20/2009, -1/+8Donut is Android's next release
Cupcake
Donut
Eiclair

As far as I know there's no name for G yet - southeastbeast, on 08/19/2009, -0/+7Running this right now with Teds Hero theme! Hot sauce.... FAST and stable
- th3heretic, on 08/20/2009, -2/+8Like ATT would support an Open OS.
- ThePeacemaker02, on 08/20/2009, -0/+6Why doesn't this guy work for google? This rom is way way faster than the one that came on the myTouch.
- LucasHenderson, on 08/20/2009, -3/+9I want an AT&T Android device to be released, I want an AT&T Android device to be released, I want an AT&T Android device to be released. (Clicks heels three times)
- ninjadave, on 08/20/2009, -0/+5Hmm, how about Ganache
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganache - th3heretic, on 08/20/2009, -1/+6Currently running the HTC Hero rom on my G1. Its awesome. Hero is far more than a new skin for the G1, its very well done and id suggest waiting a few months for the few bugs (text messaging app crashing) to be fixed and then flashing to the new version

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=5 ... - mapin0518, on 08/20/2009, -0/+5For all the newbies out there who want to try this, I really recommend checking out this blog. I found it a few days ago and it's great at explaining things and walking you through the process of rooting your phone and installing a ROM. I was up and running in 15 minutes.
http://androidandme.com/ - Makave22, on 08/20/2009, -0/+5Can someone post the instructions here on how to do it ? I would go xda but sometimes they just tell you to go and search the forum which doesn't really help.
- silverhwk89, on 08/20/2009, -0/+5i love his ROMs! they are absolutely amazing and never forgotten about! absolutely amazing!
- moblati461, on 08/20/2009, -0/+5This rom has come an incredible distance since I first checked it out. It is one of the smoothest running roms around, some are quicker but don't carry the feature load it does. The theme's for these are nearly endless as well.
Thank you Cyanogen for your hard work. Myself and many others really appreciate it. - AhronZombi, on 08/20/2009, -0/+5if you get a t-mobile g1 and root it with cyanogen a att sim will work fine. just not for the initial activation with the t-mo firmware
- rcarroll215, on 08/20/2009, -0/+5I installed this last night and I love it. Performance on my MyTouch has increased and battery life seems better.
- Super6, on 08/20/2009, -1/+5HTC Hero, rumor has it AT&T is getting it, be patient.

Reply - Rezistik, on 08/20/2009, -0/+4Could you show me the one click root app? I really want to root my phone but I'm scared of bricking my phone and the various forums I have gone to speak an archaic language that leaves me dazed and confused...something about radios and installation. I used to think I was at least somewhat computer smart...man did they leave me feeling stupid. (Probably unintentional of course.)
- blindrage, on 08/20/2009, -0/+4If you have a SIP number, you can use SIPdroid on any Android phone to call over wifi...or over 3G for that matter.
- Colindean, on 08/20/2009, -0/+4Has anyone done a comparison of Cyanogen versus JesusFreke?
- bob_the_alien, on 08/20/2009, -1/+5I depend on wifi calling, these phones are wifi enabled, why can't I use wifi calling with them, this just drives me crazy, cuz I want an Android phone, but neither of them support the one feature I must have. Come on HTC, makes an Android phone with wifi calling. For now I'm sticking with blackberry.
- mapin0518, on 08/20/2009, -0/+4Instructions here. It will take you 15 minutes max. I did it, and I'm a newbie at this.
http://androidandme.com/ - IamZed, on 08/20/2009, -1/+4Sprint claims they will have an Android in the fall. Till then I just drool at stuff like this.
- Rockdevourer, on 08/20/2009, -1/+4Cyanogen's mods are excellent, don't get me wrong, but I've been loving jacxrom since I've flashed it a week ago.
- tekkitan, on 08/20/2009, -0/+3woooot indeed.
- focom, on 08/20/2009, -0/+3Just wipe+flashed from JesusFreke's 1.51 yesterday. I have to say that although the new features are great, it feels slower than JF1.51, I get a lot more random hiccups and slowdowns and the softkeyboard seems less responsive. Whether or not this will improve with a bit more use I can't say. Benchmarks do show an increase in speed but I suspect that's mostly due to the 384 -> 528mhz overclock that comes default in this build (can be manually done in any rooted phone via simple terminal commands). As I see it the primary reason to switch from JF is idiotproof apps2sd.
- tekkitan, on 08/20/2009, -1/+4go back to sleep
- haikuFU, on 08/20/2009, -0/+3Yes, it also fixes the more critical bug that allows the video player to play Dane Cook.
- postal21, on 08/20/2009, -0/+3Thanks to this thread I just rooted my G1, and its up and rolling, looks fun. :)
- drzodiac, on 08/20/2009, -0/+3Amazingly fast. The app selection is good, multi touch is a pleasure, and it just works. My processor is over clocked now and Im running gps and streaming Imeem just fine. This is how android should be.
Suggestions: Flash support & universal search.
Thanks for your hard work...
I'm a newbie and still rooted and installed the rom in under 15. - tattokris, on 08/20/2009, -1/+4Just flashed it. Upgraded from a JF rom, but still had to wipe. Looks great so far.
- McPOW, on 08/20/2009, -0/+2I've been running this for 24+ hours now and it is sooo nice. really fast.
- SiRMez, on 08/20/2009, -0/+2Cyanogen_Mod FTW!!! I've been using cyanogen roms since his first release. These rom's and my PrOdigal_SuN theme, make my phone the best experience I've ever had with any phone!!!
- th3heretic, on 08/20/2009, -0/+2There have been a lot of improvements, its almost on par with the regular G1 rom, but not quite there yet, its no where near as fast as CyanogenMod though.
- marine6680, on 08/20/2009, -0/+2@ computernap... read the coments... its a modified version of the Android OS... better stronger faster
- tekkitan, on 08/20/2009, -0/+2not really HTC's responsibility. Like blind said though, there is SIPdroid for using VoIP via wifi or 3g.
- kwaddell, on 08/20/2009, -0/+2If you guys are all using Cyanogens ROM do yourselves a solid and send the man some beer money- a 1 second search would provide you the details for doing this. Thanks for the hardwork from cyanogen and others over @ XDA your work is amazing.
