Thanks for the link, but you only need to post it once. Otherwise, people may think you are a spammer and consequently bury you.
Regards - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really need one of these. My "trusty" old 4g photo just died on me THIS MORNING! I can't wait until he gets these out in the market!!
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seems like some modchip company could fabricate and market a cheesy adapter and housing for doing this.
- anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no, it's not
- antiNeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is just another one of those "CF uses the same interface as IDE" hacks. You can use CF in any device with an IDE hard drive and you can use a conventional IDE hard drive with any CF device. It's a nice article, though. I would never have thought that an iPod's hard drive uses IDE.
- tryx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the entire point of the article that the pinout ISN'T the same and thus you couldn't just use a normal IDE converter?
- JCPicache, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1umm there are higher capacity CF cards...i'm using a 5GB Hitachi right now
- mbt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+05GB awesome, where did you get that ?
http://www.mbt-shoes.us - Jshwaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I really wish someone would mod up a way to do iPod to iPod transfer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Mark Hoekstra is a damn genius.

No highs, No Lows, Must be Kevin Bose. - emmet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well what i've found out is that since the harddrives used in iPods are regular 1.8inch drives, e.g. the (dead) Toshiba MK2004GAL in my 20gig 4th gen iPod, they do in fact have 44pin IDE connectors (with 6 additional pins for master/slave etc.). so a 1.8in IDE to CF adapter should do the job...
ive also found this schematic for an IDE to CF adapter(via pinouts.ru): http://web.archive.org/web/20030408151936/http://www.sandisk.com/tech/oem_design/cf/Cf_ide.pdf (it seems sandisk took down the original link and since i didnt want to dig through the entire sandisk website, i just used archive.org)
so i guess thats kindof what this guy put together... anyway, great mod! im thinking about doing this myself since my iPods HD is broken and i just can't wait for his version, although i guess that just waiting would be a lot more comfortable....
MfG - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If you can have 2gb on a mini SD, why can''t there be higher capacity CF cards?
- pak314, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1How many pins does the connector on the ipod have? If it is an 44-pin IDE connector, something like this would do the job. http://www.dmd.it/epage/ecfide2.htm. I just googled for that link but there are many companies that make something similar than converts 44-pin IDE to CF.
- dubloe7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0now if only i could add flash media compatability to my iriver u10. its only 512 meg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I get frustrated trying to understand what he's trying to say (the guy in the youtube video)
- troon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Doesn't work in my Shuffle... :-(
(yes, it's humour) - duggudown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0he needs to put a little hot glue between the wires going to the connector to seal them...
