- shit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+65This one is better:
You can send an email (an "electronic" piece of "mail") with Google's "Gmail" service (short for "Google Mail", a play on the aforementioned word "email"). "Emails" are "virtual letters" the travel over the "internet". You can send an email to anyone; your friends, your "mother" (the woman whose vagina you came out of), or even your "father" (the man who ejaculated inside the aforementioned vagina).
Crap, I'm way late for work. - Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -8/+53This is dumb, most of the list is stuff ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN KNOWS ABOUT. Check out this gem of a tip:
But here's a tip: Just don't forget that Gmail automatically manages Spam for you by deleting any Spam that is over about 30 or so days old. Even though you may accumulate lots of Spam, letting Gmail auto-manage it for you can have its benefit. For example, if you inadvertently mark a message as Spam, you can always go into the Spam view and move it back to the Inbox--this which "unmarks" the message as Spam. - Iffrat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31this brings all new meaning to "for dummies"
- m00kie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27i think that alot of the tips are outdated too?
"GMAIL DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO DELETE ALL SPAM WITH ONE CLICK"
I'm sorry my mis-informed friend, but yes, yes it does. - And0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21You need plenty of filler to get up to 55 tips. The title "4 Gmail Tips" doesn't exactly get the diggs flowing...
- tarmithius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19@Brandac
Spellcheck is not the same as a grammar check. The word 'to' is a word that would get by spellcheck - brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Actually, it is 2 clicks. One on the link, and one on the alert box. :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Best damn Digg ever. Digg of the year.
- suddenfalter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12This list is completely useless.
"To compose a new message click the 'Compose Mail' link" - invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Ouch.. The obscene amount of sarcasm made my eyes bleed.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Welcome to digg.com. You must be new. The comment section was created so people could 'go out of the way to make other people feel bad.' Enjoy your stay.
- RamanujanRedux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11More importantly, why do the images show people using gmail in IE? They probably need Firefox tips more than Gmail.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Usually, when I read a lot of comments saying how stupid stuff is, I'll go read the article anyway, just for kicks. I'm skipping that this time, as this article is probably totally worthless.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why should someone use a list like this when the Gmail help section contains everything they would need to know?
- jonashwing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@tarmithius
grammar check is still not the same as proof reading your stories in an attempt to keep you from effing up people's names. - rossbrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Sure this is a little old, but it's a pretty good list to show people who are just getting a gmail account and know nothing about it.
That being said, there are better lists out there. - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have a tip...Do not EVER EVER sign up to any porn sites using your gmail. I use my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts for that.
- dhavalshreyas, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14how the hell did this hit the home page???!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The amount of unnecessary quotation marks in this article drove me insane.
FTA:
----
"When you "star" a message, you can later click on the "Starred" link on the left of the Inbox screen and Gmail will display all messages that have been "starred". Your specific reason for "starring" a message is purely personal. It simply gives you yet another way to "group" messages."
----
I'm really "glad" that you "supplied" me with the extensive list of "quotes". If it weren't for those "quotes" I might not know what words like "group" and "star" mean. - szembek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why would an IE user need firefox tips? Perhaps they should be taught the benefits of firefox, but a list of tips would be completely worthless to them.
- dziban303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes.
- DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would someone who just got Gmail be on Digg?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5lol, attack of the nerds. "HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW ALL THE GMAIL SHORTCUTS... YOU.. YOU..UH. MORON!!"
- PicklePower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey, if anyone has an extra gmail invite lying around, could I have one?
- miestersean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4A tip from me--I use drafts to save notes to self and attachments. Just never send the draft--instead, after you're done typing information (e.g., "eat food") into the body of the e-mail draft or attaching a file, click "Save Draft," not "Send." Right now I have 18 drafts, basically one for each of my school classes and a couple for random stuff.
- saladtossser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2here's a tip, get thunderbird and use gmail's pop3 and stmp
- karmajunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i do something similar, except I've got a rule set up to move anything with a subject that starts with "memo" into a label--so whenever I type a note to myself it gets archived in that label. for example, i might send myself an email "memo: blah blah article" to keep some research note i'll want later.
I started doing this before the advent of google notebook, but for a lot of stuff its a quick and easy way to keep this stuff. for example, notebook isn't accessible from my cell phone, but I can email myself with a note when i'm away from the computer. - billybob476, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How can I feel good about myself if I don't make others feel bad?
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Maybe when the article was written it didn't? The "Delete All Spam" link was added quite late on..
brendanc : It could be one click, and a keyboard bress (Space or Return)
- Ben - ryanmm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The new Gmail notifier is out in beta, hot damn!
and they added chat! - chadell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was invited to open a gmail account on April fools day, I blasted the prankster for spamming me.
Fast forward, I'm a sucker for Gmail. I use it for contrent management. I have no clue how many emails I receive but I know one thing though, I can retreive any mail anytime. Sweet. - mrthebunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@howski
Install the CustomizeGoogle Firefox extension, in the GMail preference you can set it to always use https for gmail.
Don't use firefox? well... that's too bad! :-p - krayyy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea, i thought the tip about adding the plus after your name for filtering was good. i never knew that. should i have?
- howski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Great list (no, not really) but FFS, how do I make the Google Notifier for Mac open httpS://mail.google.com... instead of plain old http!?!!??! This should be as simple as a checkbox in the preferences, but I'll take a hack if anyone has one...
- FullBleed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, it is pretty damn old. Just look at the overly excited entry extolling how wonderful the *new addition* of saving drafts is.
- CodyJP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Suppose its useful for your "average" person. The one that freaks out when they can't delete mail.
- PicklePower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you!
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think I know why most of Gmail's products are in beta.
If they go under, they are not liable for any information stored on their servers since there is a disclaimer not to trust sensitive info to beta software - rovertly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2buried as retarded
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure it does. You just need to rename the file to a *.dat and then rename again once downloaded off of gmail.
- thespy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gmail invites anyone? here are the invite links -

bury when links invalid :) - tantrik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most of them are known and used by us but a good article documenting them all in one place.
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1you know that's pretty much why they made google notebook...plus now the firefox extension for it will let you add a note and it will also include a link to whatever page you're on...so say i'm playing some flash game at work, i click on the extension in the corner and type 'sweet flash game' and then i go home and theres a new note that says 'sweet flash game' with a link to it.. (you can also uncheck the link box if you're making a random note like 'get vodka at store')
- SPECTRUM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1gmail can not send or receive *.exe; yahoo mail can.
- sharona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why wait to be invited to Gmail? I use Picasa & was prompted to open a Gmail account when I I first uploaded files to Blogger.
- SLeepdepD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This reads like it was written by an advisor for Republican Senator Ted Stevens..."The internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a truck. It's a series of tubes."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In your gmail settings, you can indeed have it leave them there or move them to the archive folder once you POP them
- Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am sorry this is a dumb question but if I use gmail's SMTP and POP3 will my email stay on the gmail server or is there an option?
Nice list I have been using gmail since it first came out. I was one of thoes people who got one when they were giving them out on The Screen Savers. - thespy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1you're welcome
- bonez05, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Dummies need help too, no ?
