just type: about:config in the address bar
->right-click > New > Boolean
name: extensions.checkCompatibility
value: false
0 Addons needed... - cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Actually, this is a hack - "No hack" is a lie.
It just forces the extension to install by removing the "build limitations" the extensions have built in to ensure that they will work with stated versions.
This just removes that assurance that the extension will actually work, so you COULD end up with an unstable browser, or a completely non-functional extension.
Not dugg, sorry! It's mis-advertised. This is a tool for nightly firefox testers to force extensions to work to see what behaviour they display - it's not intended for end users. - ldhertert, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12This is just ignorant. Just because YOUR extensions didn't cause your browser to become unstable, doesn't mean all extensions will be stable. There is a reason this check is in place to begin with. I'm not saying people shouldn't use this (I am currently), however people should at least be aware of the risks, and talking out of your ass doesn't really help that.
- KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6so it just changes the verison number?

Is this going to be submitted every time Firefox updates? - lukeo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is a very useful extension. However, it is not entirely perfect.
I installed this extension a few days ago, and it completely screwed up my firefox profile. I couldn't close tabs, or open new tabs with the middle button, and all the UI looked pretty screwed. It is clearly a problem with the extensions/themes I had installed not working properly with 2.0.
So, beware, it will force all extensions/themes to be used, but they may not work right. - an0nym0us, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Please, do us a favor and stop thinking.
- ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3no, thats what this does
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1391/ - Geoffrois, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been using this for awhile simply to make small extensions work in-between small Firefox releases. Great to make stuff like Wikipedia Lookup and Super Drag And Go work without the need for the extension maker to update it constantly. Of course, when it comes to bigger extensions it can break things so you have to be careful.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mine is...
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The innaccurate tag is a bit too harsh for this. They need a "use at your own risk" or something. It's not necessarily accurate or innaccurate depending on what extensions you use.
- stylesP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/local_install/
Can do the same and much more
"The primary goal of this extension is to provide the tools needed to install and manage extensions and themes locally. To do this the extension provides multi-extension installation support, hacking capabilities to the Extension/Theme manager windows, features to find and troubleshoot Extensions/Themes Build, GUID and Profile information." - tim507, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sessionsaver still isnt working...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9Most digg users are power users and can use this extension. I've used it and it doesn't make anything unstable. What sounds good in writing, may not actually be true.
- dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The ultimate cause of the problem is that the Firefox developers expect extension writers to predict which future version of Firefox will break compatibility with their extensions.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using this extension for a few days, and I must say that it isn't too bad. However, I do totally crash sometimes, a few times a day. However, I think that it is worth it to have all of my cool ass extentions- plus I have the session saver, so it's not like I'm losing anything.
- gnalakalaciath5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1please serve this comment with a side of honey glazed ham and sweet pineapple chunks.
or you could just bury it :P - keeperofkeys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>Now, why does FF default to opening links from inside the browser in new windows instead of new tabs?
This has been fixed in RC2 I believe - ChiGGz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1del

WORKS GOOD:
just type: about:config in the address bar
->right-click > New > Boolean
name: extensions.checkCompatibility
value: false
0 Addons needed... - keeperofkeys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This extension looks extremely useful for bleeding edge developers, but personally I'm enjoying FF2.0 so much - more stable and no memory leaks that I can observe (I've tried) - so I'm going to stick with approved extensions. Most of the ones I use are already here, and TabMixPlus is not as necessary as it was.
Still I dugg this, because people can make their own minds up whether to take the risks outlined in the comments. - spr33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Try Session Manager.
- Hellfire51, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Marked as inaccurate. I use this extension and it does indeed bump up the version on an extension, but it DOES NOT MAKE THE EXTENSION COMPATIBLE. If the extension is already compatible but was never tested for the version you want to run it on and thus doesn't support the version it will let them run. This breaks some extensions (but most you will find work fine in newer versions).
- mannyotr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Nice idea, but it really screwed up my browser. I removed it and will just wait it out.
- hotani, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1double digg! I can use tabbrowser prefs again, and all is right with the Universe.
Now, why does FF default to opening links from inside the browser in new windows instead of new tabs? - Caboose125, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I've had this extension for awhile. but this is still a great story to digg!
- neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Anyone having ant problems with quicktime streaming in FF2 RC2 for Mac? Everysince I installed the RC2, mp3, and quicktime media won't play, but WMV will. I trashed my profile and and restarted FF2, tried apple.com/getamac mov, and it said I needed quicktime to view the movies. I have OS X 10.4.8, Quicktime 7.1.3.
What the heck is the deal here? - doubleblack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Lame. This is like older than my Mom...
- BransonLAN, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3@ cr3ative
When he says "no hack" I think he means hacking the extension? Could be wrong though. - mangaskahn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4One add-on to convert them all,
One add-on to find them,
One add-on to bring them all,
and to Firefox 2 bind them...
Apologies to Tolkien.
First thing I thought when I read the Headline. - forapathy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4hurray.. finaly.. i was wandering when the old extensions will be ported to 2.0.. thanks for the digg :)
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2stop diggin me down ya ie fanboys!
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8Firefox 2 FTW!

- 42nnn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1thats what i was thinking...
- ChiGGz, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6One extension to rule them all. One extension to find them. One extension to bind them all, and in the darkness ...MAKE THEM WORK WITH DIFFERENT BLOODY FF VERSIONS!!
