- undercoverDrunk, on 01/23/2009, -10/+98Why Can't SP2 just be Win7 and get it over with?
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -17/+99M$ Windoze bl0ws!!!!!!!1
Am I cool yet? - Typhoon2009, on 01/23/2009, -2/+68I didn't even know there was a Service Pack 2 in the works, so I'm not particularly disappointed.
- frepnog, on 01/23/2009, -9/+48i have been running the Vista SP2 beta for a while now. Have noticed no serious improvements, but Vista has always been fast and stable for me anyway. I guess it's a wash.
- saboola, on 01/23/2009, -3/+34Vista and Win7 come from the same code base. Service Pack 2 may include the improvements made for Win7, much like Service Pack 1 included the improvements from the release of Server 2008.
- artfuldodga, on 01/23/2009, -3/+31vista has only been a disaster in the eyes of mindless less than qualified tech editors, who cares if SP2 is delayed... theres nothing wrong with vista SP1, i've used it for almost a year now with not one single issue to date. i am looking forward to some reliability fixes and minor enhancements SP2 may provide but thats it.
while vista had not gotten me to run out and buy a copy for myself the day it retailed, i will do so for windows 7, based on how well vista has served me, everyone should try windows 7 beta 1, send feedback... Microsoft encourages you to do so, the best part is they actually listen to consumer feedback - nurall, on 01/23/2009, -1/+24No. i like vista as well and hate it when i have to go back to xp.
- surfacewound, on 01/23/2009, -2/+23The same day as Duke Nukem Forever.
- martyFREEDOM, on 01/23/2009, -7/+28Heck yes I love paying for service packs.
- IKORKYI, on 01/23/2009, -1/+21cause then they couldn't charge for it.
it probably essentially will be
hopefully the delay is they were shocked when they started learning things from the w7 beta, and that some of these improvements will be implemented into vista sp2 - SirFatalx, on 01/23/2009, -0/+19No worries, we still have the Windows 7 beta.
- IFEice, on 01/23/2009, -1/+19Mike2lane is new to digg?
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -5/+20god, shut up.
- rakeshishere, on 01/23/2009, -1/+16*reads article*
who cares...? I am waiting for windows 7 - PsychoticX, on 01/23/2009, -3/+18You're gonna change your OS because an update was delayed?
- LiquidSpark, on 01/22/2009, -6/+21err... the 5,000 (out of 90,000) people getting sacked are in administrative positions.
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -2/+17I like vista as well - It runs fantastic. all my games, media, stable as hell. My computer's been up for over 70 hours, and I just played Mirror's edge, and it loaded in about 7 seconds. I'm dual booted with XP and haven't booted into XP in well over 5 months.
- archer75, on 01/23/2009, -2/+17Windows 7 uses the same driver model as Vista. It's not Vista's fault your laptop didn't have drivers, it's sony's fault. And windows 7 won't change that.
- Supernova36, on 01/23/2009, -0/+15How dare you trample my flippant remark with facts..
- duke_nate, on 01/23/2009, -1/+16Um, we've seen what 7 can do, even as a beta. And its good enough for me :-)
- crispa1970, on 01/23/2009, -7/+21Don't let the haters get you down. I've used Vista with no problems since July 2007, and I dislike the (lack of) user friendliness of XP (compared to Vista).
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -1/+13What's my name have to do with how much of a retard you are? So I'm a raging *****. What's that have to do with how wrong you are?
- ligyron, on 01/23/2009, -2/+14Same. My version of Vista works just fine for my needs so I don't really care about getting another Service Pack...
- MxM111, on 01/23/2009, -0/+12Why would anyone buy Vista after SP2 (except with new computer) if in half year you can get Windows 7?
- aimhelix, on 01/23/2009, -2/+13I like Vista. By far the most stable Windows OS I've used. Does not crash and is close to being rock stable. But that's probably because my machine was assembled specifically for vista... and I'm not trying to run it on a Celeron with 1024mb of RAM.
- archer75, on 01/23/2009, -0/+11The layoff takes place over 18 months.
- jrm125, on 01/23/2009, -2/+13Don't bring your mother into this.
- archer75, on 01/23/2009, -1/+11Mythbusters actually proved you can.
- FredFredrickson, on 01/23/2009, -0/+10The people who already have Vista, I would presume.
- FredFredrickson, on 01/23/2009, -1/+11Why should they drop support of the product just because a few people on the internet whine about it?
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -6/+16Vista rocks actually. Sorry you're too poor to have a system that can run something so pretty. :D
- ObeseSnake, on 01/23/2009, -0/+10This means that Windows 7 will come out in 2009, esp. with the comment about the OEMs not having to recert SP2.
- Jeffler, on 01/23/2009, -4/+14Leopard IS your service pack, FearlessFreep.
- schnikies79, on 01/23/2009, -2/+11For those of us with computers that have good vista drivers, it works fine. My copy of Vista Business hasn't crashed once since I installed it (about 3 months after vista was released).
Your anecdotal evidence is as worthless as mine. - jrm125, on 01/23/2009, -2/+11@mike
Because your ***** computer has old hardware with old drivers and Sony, or whoever else, didn't bother to produce update drivers. For those of us with half decent hardware and manufacturers, everything has drivers and works smoothly. - LMN8R, on 01/23/2009, -0/+9Calling Windows 7 a "service pack" demonstrates a sever lack of understanding of what the words "service pack" mean.
If Windows 7 is a "service pack", then so is every single follow-up release of OS X. But of course, neither is the case whatsoever. - inactive, on 01/23/2009, -4/+13deja vu
but really, why would any one be surprised? How long was XP SP3 and Vista SP1 delayed? - xiphi, on 01/23/2009, -2/+11Maybe it actually had the "right" drivers you claimed your Vista install lacked? You just admitted the fault of Vista lies on the drivers. In the same breath, you also showed your ignorance considering Windows 7 has the SAME driver model Vista has. So, if by some miracle you learn how to install drivers and updates, you'll learn Vista will perform great. The same goes for any edition of Windows.
- jordanmoore, on 01/23/2009, -4/+12uR totall3e awezome 4 saying dat ting u jus sed. So tru3.
- raydeen, on 01/23/2009, -2/+10U can haz digg.
- IKORKYI, on 01/23/2009, -4/+12to me, a mac is not a viable alternative to windows due to very few reasons:
1) gaming
2) CAD/FEA
3) price
now i would dual boot, but i'd be paying for both then, wouldn't I - crispa1970, on 01/23/2009, -4/+12Why all the hatin'? I've been using Vista since July 2007 on both of my computers with no problems.
- Yazilliclick, on 01/23/2009, -1/+9Since when is any software development ever on time? It's basically to be expected that the original date won't be met.
- GoingPostal, on 01/23/2009, -2/+10I recently read that three hundred million copies of Vista have been sold. I don't have an MBA, but that doesn't sound like a failure to me.
It runs great for me. Manufacturers had plenty of time to write Vista drivers for older devices, but it is an expense a lot of them didn't want to incur. They would rather have people buy their newer devices. I don't see how you can blame Microsoft for this. - natenovs, on 01/23/2009, -0/+8It's mostly a rollup of updates since SP1 - and a couple of new system features (like blue ray)
- multiformat, on 01/23/2009, -5/+13Nope, you got dugg down for being off topic and being a mac nut hugger.
- belebih, on 01/23/2009, -1/+9"I think millions feel the way I do about Windows lately..."
Yeah, millions of people actually are computer illiterate and can't even install drivers properly, just like yourself. - frepnog, on 01/23/2009, -2/+10"It runs fantastic. all my games, media, stable as hell. My computer's been up for over 70 hours, and I just played Mirror's edge, and it loaded in about 7 seconds."
agreed. i hate using XP now. I have been using Vista since it was released, and immediately preferred it to XP, but the only problem I ever had with it was trying to use an old Soundblaster Live card, and even that I got working. most Vista bashing at this point is just FUD. It is a fantastic OS. - dullnation, on 01/23/2009, -4/+11Thanks so much for pointing those option that we've all been aware of for many years, ColBuendia71
- artfuldodga, on 01/23/2009, -0/+7where did you hear windows 7 by summer? its said to maybe go RTM by christmas, which is around the same time vista had been released
