- nepidae, on 10/12/2009, -12/+49god damn, how many times do they have to rebrand that piece of ***** OS?
- indyGuy, on 10/12/2009, -9/+46My wife didn't recognize any of the icons... had to explain the commercial to her.
Not so good advertising for the masses. - tgc1, on 10/12/2009, -1/+32IE Icon should have fallen down the stairs.
- kentifer, on 10/12/2009, -8/+32This is only confusing if you don't know what a computer or a cell phone is.
- blackinthmiddle, on 10/12/2009, -3/+24On top of confusing people into thinking there's a windows mobile phone created by microsoft, I find the very beginning just bad advertisement:
"Long ago, before you broke my heart..."
So they're admitting in the commercial that at one point they screwed up with Windows Mobile development? Seems like a bad strategy, no? Or am I missing the point of the commercial? - bringitontimx, on 10/12/2009, -1/+20Windows Mobile 6.5 is an OS.
- kalleanka, on 10/13/2009, -2/+15If your wife didn't recognize any of those icons, then she is not part of the market they are targeting.
- IllBeBack, on 10/12/2009, -5/+18Wow. Another Microsoft marketing attempt fails to make an impact. Calling the phone a Windows phone is not helpful at all.
Their marketing is worse than IBM's.
At least this isn't as horrific as the Windows 7 Hosting Your Party video on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cX4t5-YpHQ
Oh man, that thing must win an award for the most glaringly bad piece of marketing of 2009, bar none. - niradg, on 10/12/2009, -3/+16Hey MS, why not actually spend some money developing a decent mobile OS? You guys are waaaay behind Google Android, Apple iPhone, and Palm WebOS
- monkeysama, on 10/12/2009, -1/+11Which Microsoft mobile platform are they talking about? Pink? WinMo6.5? Zune? Another flavor of CE?
It looks like they're advertising for the one that sucks, but they're going to have to be a lot more specific. - Zippo, on 10/12/2009, -1/+11Microsoft is many things... but "good at advertising" is not one of them.
- digitalpencil, on 10/12/2009, -6/+13retarded comment is retarded..
how is Microsoft, of all companies, dieing? Granted they've made a few good and a few bad decisions of late but the ideas coming out of Redmond are great and if they finally get out a product that matches those specs without cocking it up again like they have been doing lately, we'll have a really solid product line to play with.
this ad isn't very good, in honesty all of MS' marketing has been pretty attrocious but they're ***** huge and you're being naive if you think they're going anywhere quickly.. - VaderCatLover, on 10/13/2009, -2/+9Windows Mobile = Windows 95 on a Phone
- dralezero, on 10/12/2009, -1/+8I didn't know Twitter was something from Windows!
- canthraxp, on 10/13/2009, -0/+6And beat to death by a mob of web developers.
- zer0mass, on 10/13/2009, -0/+6From the company that just lost all your contacts on your sidekick, now brings you the Windows Phone!
- txballer, on 10/12/2009, -2/+7"Windows Phone" is so 1987, they should have gone with a name like Windows Wireless, Windows Aire, Windows Voice or even... Windows Mobile.
- BrBybee, on 10/12/2009, -2/+7A MAC IS A PC
PC = Personal computer. - gabacho2, on 10/12/2009, -0/+5Or maybe people are saying they miss having those products, (Wod, Exchange, Messenger) on their PCs but not having them on their now prominent computing platforms, which is their phone? And that Windows Phone lets you have access to those appds that you've missed on the phone? Seems like its intended for the iPhone/Palm crowd. Makes sense to me
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/12/2009, -0/+59/10 of computers are using Windows. So it's worth something to them to call it a Windows Phone. It also implies a certain degree of compatibility with Windows.
- inactive, on 10/12/2009, -2/+6What, would you rather they lie?
I find it more humble to admit mistakes than to pretend they didn't exist.. - FredFredrickson, on 10/12/2009, -0/+3It's an average ad. Nothing really new, kind of amusing for one or two viewings.
Also, that dude looks like that kid from AT&T's "unused minutes" commercials. - digitalpencil, on 10/12/2009, -5/+8not really, the mass-market has no idea about WinMo.. when they see this ad, they'll think Microsoft has released a phone and save the Word and IE icons, i doubt the vast majority will recognize the others, or have any idea what functionality they relate to.
it's not clear in the slightest.. i wish MS would hire a new marketing dept. their advertising is attrocious, from the equally cryptic and annoying Seinfeld ads, through to their latest self-pitying "i'm a pc, and i'm not cool enough to be a mac", the "Songsmith" ads, "Windows 7 Launch Parties" (honestly who in ***** thought that would be a good idea?!).
Microsoft has some great ideas leaving Redmond with Natal, Surface and lately Courier but for whatever reason, these ideas always seem to emerge as shadows of their former selves, with their ZuneHD being a recent example.
Ballmer needs to grab this company by the reigns and quit relying on ubiquity of platform to shift units. - Christbait, on 10/12/2009, -0/+3terrible video.
- Myztry, on 10/12/2009, -0/+3I don't care how pseudo cute they are, I find the idea of creatures in white leggings following me around to be creepy...
- Andrewe1, on 10/12/2009, -2/+5They make it seem as it was a Microsoft phone, not a phone running a microsoft OS... People that already know that winmo is a OS that runs on a number of phones get it, people that don't might think this something like the iphone, apple hardware, apple OS.
- mdwstmusik, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2I was expecting a van to drive by as soon as IE left the building...after which...several additional icons for registry sweeper software, discounts on web purchases, free games, free cursors and free emoticons would show up in the guys car.
- wpf999, on 10/12/2009, -0/+2I'm confused and I haven't even seen the ad yet!
- kungphukenobi, on 10/12/2009, -2/+4Even a die hard winmo fan would be silly to buy a 6.5 phone with 7 around the corner.
6.5 is just an update to 6
7 is completely rebuilt from the ground up, fingers crossed they do it right. I want a good OS (apple) AND the freedom to use my device exactly as I want (winmo). - Jerk, on 10/12/2009, -0/+2The only interest I have in the ad is the song. Sounds like Cat Power, but I don't know the song. She has such a sexy voice.
- Matthews255, on 10/12/2009, -0/+2LOL
- Poonchow, on 10/12/2009, -3/+5A Microsoft ad confusing? NO WAY!
- zer0mass, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2Lets not forget the users too.
- BrBybee, on 10/12/2009, -0/+2I believe they are just advertising MS software in general.
- kernel16, on 10/12/2009, -3/+5You'd have to be a moron to find this commercial confusing. I'll sum up the message.
"The applications you love and use on your desktop PC running Windows OS are now available for easy portability on your cellphone with WinMo!" - JoeB4ever, on 10/12/2009, -3/+4Yea I think MS should just give up this battle. Oh and did I mention I'm using my HTC hero to post this comment.
- mdscinto, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1This comment made me laugh in the middle of lecture.
- FunnyData, on 10/12/2009, -1/+2Microsoft should give this phone away to build up market share. it is not like Microsoft needs the money
- MrAbbas, on 10/12/2009, -1/+2ftw !!!
- nxusername, on 10/13/2009, -2/+3Dying company is slowly dying.
There I fixed it. - inactive, on 10/12/2009, -6/+7My great grandma didn't recognize any either. They're terrible at this marketing thing!
- 5achin, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1thatz the dude from Harlod and Kumar: G Bay!!
- Chipesh, on 10/17/2009, -0/+1The phone manufacturers are not going to allow Microsoft to gain significant influence of the market and twist it to their own proprietary standards as they tried (try) to do with the Internet and computers.
So many different devices accessing the net is a force for using agreed open standards.
Not good for MS but good for everyone else.
Android is one of the most significant developments of recent years. More power to its elbow.
I'm still salivating over my son's new HTC hero.
Bob - someology, on 10/14/2009, -0/+1They _have_ created an app store, and you can install it on your WinMo 6.1, but why would you want to? I have Windows Mobile 6.5, and I just ignore the app store and install my apps the ways I always have, through my cellular internet connection or USB cable.
- ducttape36, on 10/13/2009, -1/+2i think i may be the only person in the world who is happy with my windows mobile 6.1. I can tell you one thing though, if they go the apple route and create an app store, im going to be very unhappy. Id much rather be able to install whatever cabs i want and not have to worry about the program being approved by microsoft or anyone else. i want developers to offer there apps where ever they want and not on some propriety app store.
granted, quality control is an issue when you take that route, but if a program sucks, ill just delete it. I like having my phone operate like a pc. epecially when i can use skyfire instead of IE. apple would never approve skyfire.
but thats just my opinion. - steevilweevil, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1exactly what I was thinking!
- sebconn, on 10/12/2009, -8/+8Seriously?
Really? - bde5, on 10/13/2009, -1/+1When I saw it I thought Microsoft have made a device and it made me google it and find out about WinMo 6.5 and basically everything new about the OS. Guess the commetcial worked.
- jbird123, on 10/12/2009, -2/+2I thought it was a good ad, adn my cousin who is totally NOT a geek. He is leaving his hotmail and msn etc at home but wait.. he has his windows mobile phone with him so doesnt have to leave them at home!
Dont think they should be changing to windows phone thoug, windows mobile sounds much better and describes it much better! -
