- Carv, on 11/14/2007, -3/+167"Deleting Addresses from IE7's Dropdown Address Bar".
Oh, you dirty little bastards. - inactive, on 11/14/2007, -48/+182Vista isn't nearly as bad as all of you whiners claim.
- Phocion55, on 11/14/2007, -10/+99Add "Scrap WGA" and maybe we'll talk.
- Insanitation, on 11/14/2007, -21/+102I guess that just shows that you dont know how to operate a windows box properly.
- Sneo, on 11/14/2007, -14/+84Taskbar for multi-monitor is a good one to improve, stability and security should be on the list though!
- CLShortFuse, on 11/14/2007, -2/+68Full list: http://www.neowin.net/images/uploaded/1798_early_f ...
Tabbed Explorer sounds very nice. - Namco, on 11/14/2007, -6/+65Jesus, you think Vista needs more security? *****, go buy Norton Internet Paranoia Suite 2007 then.
- TGMD, on 11/13/2007, -4/+54how many clocks do you need?
I think you have a clock fetish - waterdrop, on 11/14/2007, -28/+76That was fixed back when Windows 2000Pro came out. XP and Vista simply never crash.
- flessa, on 11/13/2007, -1/+43Better multi-monitor support would be nice (different wallpapers, extended taskbar).
- CLShortFuse, on 11/14/2007, -5/+45Vista64 works flawlessly on my Athlon64 X2 6000+. No hangs or loss of stability but runs like crap on my Centrino 1.73mhz laptop.
It's strange since Microsoft has always been about legacy support but is focusing on new hardware (dual core and x64) with Vista (6.0).
Windows 7 (kernel 7.0) is a kernel rewrite/refresh so it should be better on older, single-core computers but it will be the last 32bit OS from Microsoft. After that, it's time to move to x64. - Tenoq, on 11/14/2007, -1/+40Norton is does more damage than the viruses half the time. :p
- theragu40, on 11/14/2007, -13/+49Alright, I know it's the cool thing to hate Microsoft (Micro$oft, sorry), and I know you are hoping that dissing Windows will get you lots of Digg friends and make you the ultimate uber digger...but you can't be serious. For all its problems, Windows XP is fairly stable, fairly secure, and works fairly well for about 95% of people. I'd say there's roughly a 100% chance that you are one of those people. Quit bitching unless you actually know what you're talking about.
- theragu40, on 11/13/2007, -9/+43No offense, but why would you think that "make firefox the default browser" would be anywhere near the top of the list? Digg me down if you want, but face it: the average person (no, the average Digg user is not the average person) does not use Firefox. Maybe all the people you know do, but that's likely just because they know you and you influenced them, or they know another tech savvy person who installed it for them. The average user wouldn't know how to get to the internet if you removed the IE icon from their desktop, and they're plenty happy to have it that way.
- jasdf, on 11/13/2007, -1/+33I just want to be able to reorder the open windows on the taskbar.
- Jeffler, on 11/14/2007, -2/+33Some of these are good, but interactive recycling bins? Pinball? Logo on the boot splash screen? WTF?
- CLShortFuse, on 11/13/2007, -5/+31That's why they're rewriting it all under a new kernel called Windows 7
- mrASSMAN, on 11/13/2007, -0/+23I wouldn't say "never", but the #1 reason for crashes are due to buggy drivers, which have improved substantially since the time that Vista was first released. XP is still a bit more stable than Vista though due to its relative maturity.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -17/+40Stability, and less bloat. An "advanced" mode , i love the sessions idea (cough linux already has that)
- ozziek, on 11/13/2007, -4/+26I'd love for them to add the same hypnotic field that Apple puts in all their products. That way we wouldn't see any faults at all - everything would be a feature and crashes would be removed from our memory completely. Windows would be utterly perfect and completely flawless, just like Mac OSX......ignorance is bliss.
- geoken, on 11/13/2007, -7/+29Same old Microsoft? It's a list of the most common user requests. How is it Microsoft's fault that a lot of users don't care about network file transfers?
- bean, on 11/13/2007, -1/+23http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ (ultramon)
- zachblume, on 11/13/2007, -0/+20Norton slows your computer down so badly.
- grumpyrain, on 11/13/2007, -0/+19Sigh ...
[/Reminisces time when Norton actually made useful tools] - otalivan, on 11/13/2007, -0/+19I understand very well why Firefox as the default browser isn't one of them. I wouldn't want that also, and it's my browser of choice. Actually, that's pretty much the reason why I don't want it to be the default browser for Windows. Forgive me for being a selfish bastard on this one, but I bet that once Firefox becomes the default browser, viruses programmers all over the world will have a new target. And I like Firefox too much, I really don't want that happening.
- Farik, on 11/13/2007, -0/+18Windows "Game" mode would be excellent. I've spoken to friends about this over the years how an XPe (or Windows 7 Embedded) would make sense for gamers and game programmers. And to me, it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would be all that difficult to implement.
- antdude, on 11/13/2007, -1/+182007 is outdated. :P
- killtherebel, on 11/13/2007, -10/+26Does osx play games? Oh wait, you need to use Windows for that. Maybe you apple fanboys should be just as excited.
- pintomp3, on 11/13/2007, -5/+20seriously, the activation nonsense means i will not be upgrading to vista in the computer labs. ghosting would become a nightmare, and i'm not about to setup an activation server just for that.
- encrypter, on 11/13/2007, -3/+17IMO, I think a lot of these could and should be fixed in the next service pack or two.
- dechah, on 11/13/2007, -8/+22I love my Vista 64 machine, rock stable, powerful and productive. One thing I would like to see borrowed from Apple would be a universal spellchecker like OS X has for cocoa apps. Apart from that, I am a very happy Vista user.
- white2grey, on 11/13/2007, -3/+17Where can one go to submit their own ideas for this list?
- hambend, on 11/13/2007, -7/+21Oh come on. I'm a windows user and I thought that was funny.
- kingace, on 11/14/2007, -7/+21cyberphoenix just got put down like a dog
- Me1000, on 11/13/2007, -0/+133d Pinball is amazing!
cant wait for the new version! - silentdragoon, on 11/13/2007, -3/+16I am actually looking forward to this -- if MS can get this right, I would be a little amazed, but if they are considering implementing many of these features, then they are going in the right direction. I also applaud their new direction for the UI -- clean over glossy. The less elements you have in the UI, the more time you have to focus on each, to make them efficient, and the less likely you are to ***** it up.
- killtherebel, on 11/13/2007, -14/+26Windows 7 isn't an expansion pack like Leopard. At least Windows users aren't forced to use proprietary systems that are overpriced.
- cquinnd, on 11/13/2007, -0/+12Its 2009 or 2010, notwithstanding a revolutionary change in development approach that preceded Vista and derailed the longhorn project.
- haiduz, on 11/13/2007, -0/+12Time Slider in DVD Player
Time Skip in DVD Player
Empty Trash Button
Movable Tabs in Safari
More Smileys in iChat
Warning before closing tabbed Window - Safari
Riveting! I didnt believe it was just an "expansion pack" but thats before I knew they added more smileys, fonts, and A DVD TIME SLIDER (sorry for caps, im too excited) - ThePortlander, on 11/13/2007, -0/+12hahah I thought the exact same thing.
- Namco, on 11/13/2007, -0/+12Um, yeah it's called Aero, and you can change the theme at any time. I'm sure Leopard would have the same problem on old hardware too.
- screwzluse, on 11/13/2007, -0/+12Then don't use Vista or Windows 7. If you're happy with an operating system, there's no reason to upgrade.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 11/13/2007, -2/+14Hi I'm a dumbass that wants to remind everyone to buy Apple products.
I'm going to act like you're joking to help convince myself it's still 1998 in the Windows world. - bleutuna, on 11/13/2007, -3/+15Microsoft already built the next great operating system, but is too damn stupid to realize it - Surface.
Surface is brilliant and amazing. While it requires specific hardware to work with it, the operating system and what it can do are sexy and intelligent, going far beyond what the iPhone can do. Microsoft should realize they have THE winner that could change all of our computing habits if they'd just put some time and effort into it.
Imagine purchasing something online just by pressing your credit card to your monitor/Smartphone? Or editing in Avid/Premiere with Surface - pulling and plugging in content, scrubbing, etc.
It's amazing. With its real world object recognition? Damn. I want it so bad. ***** Microsoft for being so stupid with its implementation and roll out. - CLShortFuse, on 11/13/2007, -0/+11I bought it because it's cheap compared to Intels (and it's x64)
$159.99 on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 ... - MioTheGreat, on 11/13/2007, -0/+11They've managed to get security down with Vista. Go look at a list of exploits for the OS. The vast majority of them are useless or being completely ignored due to other security measures in the OS that make them not work, or provide very limitted access, with the out of the box configuration.
- cbrack, on 11/13/2007, -15/+26seriously dude, stop using windows ME. i haven't had a windows crash in years.
- JrGhoull, on 11/13/2007, -2/+12i'm in urz address bar, deleting ur pr0n linkz
- Me1000, on 11/13/2007, -0/+10XP is how old? 5 to 6 years?
besides by the time Windows 7 is released you will have plenty of money to buy a top of the line system to install it on! - yournamehere, on 11/13/2007, -4/+13Top requested feature for you:
