Ars: MS is promoting Windows 7 as a major release!"
I'm not seeing any contradiction between those statements.
MS didn't show the changes to the Start Menu, a point explicitly made in the article. - estvir, on 05/29/2008, -2/+4No.
They chose to demonstrate a single new thing about Windows 7, how the hell does that translate into "Oh man, that's the only selling point for Windows 7!!!111!oenoeneonshidftone" ? - ArthurSucks, on 05/29/2008, -4/+6Microsoft's only selling point is gimmicks?
- ScottDaMan, on 05/29/2008, -3/+5Could you imagine this being ported to desktop screens and be the "norm"? I would absolutely hate it.
And what's with the rumor about Windows 7 possibly being a subscription model? - cquinnd, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2Ars was recently bought out by Conde Nast, were they not?
I hope this is not a sign of an emphasis on fast journalism over accurate and insightful articles as they have done in the past. - cquinnd, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1It will be an optional feature, much like Tablet PC or Media center features are now.
The rumor is exactly that, a rumor. The basis for it has already been debunked in recent articles, and the only business model it would have been sensible for is already in place on the corporate side of the market. - estvir, on 05/29/2008, -3/+3Ars: MS is being very quiet about Windows 7.

Ars: MS is promoting Windows 7 as a major release!
Ars also missed many other reasons why they're being quiet, completely missed the changes to the Start Menu, basically blamed MS for their [and others] hopes for some completely new and amazing thing to be shown despite MS not even remotely hinting that this would be done, they contradict themselves again in regards to how useful multi-touch features would be, etc.
A poor article.. and Ars is usually one of the better sites, I guess this is just one of their occasional lapses into journalism on par with Engadget and Gizmodo.
