- stufflebean, on 01/09/2009, -7/+82Gotta love the armchair computer scientists. One of my operating systems professors, who has actually seen the Windows source, says that it's a hell of a lot cleaner than, say, Linux. DRM is another issue, and I'll grant you that, but I'll wager that it's still going to be solid at the core. The vast majority of Vista issues were related to drivers, not the operating system itself, and I don't see why Windows 7 should be any worse.
- SpectralSounds, on 01/09/2009, -0/+55"loosing money".
It's lose. Loose is what your mother is. - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -20/+69I have been using the 7 beta for about a week now and I absolutely love it. But, of course, I am one of the people who likes Vista, mainly because I have the hardware to support the 64-bit Ultimate version. The people who hate on Vista/7 with NEVER having used it are sheep that will follow whatever a poorly scripted Apple ad tells them to.
"Too many 'experts' have staked their reputation on Vista being forever and always like ME - they are now drifting into irrationality as the actual reasons for disliking Vista have turned to vapor." - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -3/+50And for those who doubt 7's performance, even on older hardware:

Outperforms XP and Vista in pretty much every aspect on newer, and old hardware. And it's beta 1. - jeremymccurdy, on 01/09/2009, -4/+46Except it's not just a repackaged Vista. There are tons of UI and performance improvements.
- insertAliasHere, on 01/09/2009, -5/+391) Nobody ***** cares.
2) You could still install W7 through bootcamp if you so desired. - Namingway, on 01/09/2009, -8/+38you are what they call a "***** idiot"
- sadilak, on 01/09/2009, -6/+34I downloaded the beta last evening from technet and so far, all I can say is that Windows 7 is what vista should really have been..
So far so good - jeremymccurdy, on 01/09/2009, -1/+28I had Vista for a while, but it eventually frustrated and annoyed me to the point where I switched back to XP. It wasn't bad, but it just had enough stuff to bother me that I didn't consider it worth using. I've just started using the Windows 7 beta today, and I'm already really impressed. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far, and it's a lot more responsive and user friendly than Vista or XP.
I was skeptical about the new taskbar thing, assuming it was just a glorified quicklaunch with some Mac dock features, which I guess to some degree it is, but it works so damn well and better than both. The only thing that's missing is being able to view all the open tabs in Firefox when you hover over like you can in IE, but that's something Mozilla has to add.
I'm gonna try throwing some older and more obscure programs and games at it to see how well that goes, but at the moment, it wouldn't bother me in the least to replace XP with it. - twiztidsinz, on 01/09/2009, -2/+26Are Goblins related to Trolls?
- scratend0788, on 01/09/2009, -6/+27as enthusiastic i am for windows 7 i cant help but be a bit dissapointed they dont seem to have added better muti monitor support.
however i have grown quite fond of ultramon so i guess i cant complain - awolfe91, on 01/09/2009, -4/+24Ah, that's refreshing. Someone with some sense. +1, good sir!
- gcnaddict, on 01/09/2009, -2/+22Okay, protip for all of you:
Beta 1 FRE still has *active* debug code running in the background (not talking about Beta 1 CHK, which are loaded to the brim with debug code). If you're seeing performance gains now, you'll be sold on Windows 7 once it is RTM. - Slizzo, on 01/09/2009, -1/+21Ever since Vista came out there's been "complaints" about the amount of memory it uses....
People, Vista (and 7) cache regularly used programs in your available memory, so that your programs load much faster. Once you launch an application that needs more memory, Vista (and 7) will release that memory for the applications' use.
Wouldn't you rather have all the available memory in your rig being used than having it sit idle? I mean, that would basically mean you've wasted your money on buying all that ram and only using it 5% of the time. - Slizzo, on 01/09/2009, -4/+24You DO realize that since Windows 2000/Windows XP the OS hasn't been built on one inch of DOS code right?
Everything since then has been based off of NT code. - awolfe91, on 01/09/2009, -2/+22Well, la-di-FREAKIN-da!
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -3/+22I'm not against Apple at all, I do own an iPhone. What I can't stand is ***** Mac users who think their ***** doesn't stink because they "go against the norm" and use a Mac, even though using a Mac is now a symbol of following the trend.
Grats on owning your *****. - diggduggDOOM, on 01/09/2009, -2/+21I've had Vista for over a year and I've had no problems with it at all.
I've actually come to like it quite a bit and really have little interest in moving to Windows 7.
(I am not a "power user" and primarily use my system for gaming and home theater) - jeremymccurdy, on 01/09/2009, -1/+19What, do you want a medal or something?
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -3/+20I work in an office with many IT professionals and the such, and I was the first to switch to Vista over a year and a half ago. I caught so much heat for it from everyone at the time. Now, about 75% of them use Vista and love it since they actually tried it, and stopped listening to all the negativity from uninformed people.
- SpectralSounds, on 01/09/2009, -4/+21Typical Mac user, always feeling the need to let everybody know they have a Mac. Why is that? Do you people really think anybody cares?
- jeremymccurdy, on 01/09/2009, -0/+16There's nothing stripped from Vista, more like they took what they had with Vista and optimised the hell out of it and built on from there.
- twiztidsinz, on 01/09/2009, -5/+21Upgrading to OSX. A better way to let everyone know you're a douchebag than popping your collar.
- pcfirestorm, on 01/09/2009, -2/+18Because gaming on a Mac is painful. Upgrading a mac is EXPENSIVE, and I just dont really want to support the overly closed system that Mac is
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -3/+19Yeah, in Vista SP1.
- Topher06, on 01/09/2009, -4/+20Upgrade to OS X for only $1200 - $3000 and replace the same hardware you already own, act now.
- trollick, on 01/09/2009, -1/+16I'm sorry to hear that.
- fourty_two, on 01/09/2009, -2/+17ultramon FTW
- magic6435, on 01/09/2009, -9/+24OS X has fantastic support for multimonitor
- Repeater2000, on 01/09/2009, -2/+16Loaded it last night on my new Macbok Pro(parallels).
So far I'm loving it. :) - bastardo, on 01/09/2009, -2/+16Also, I hadn't noticed but there's a big Pro-Vista attitude going on in Digg lately, it's interesting.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -2/+16You're right, I *did* say that Vista is perfect. Just look, I totally typed that.
- Slizzo, on 01/09/2009, -1/+15Because there's many applications out there that aren't MAC native?
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+14LOL. A winrar is you
- mushoo, on 01/09/2009, -0/+14Direct downloads, would rather have the keys though.

Supposedly they'll post here when it's live for all, but it's getting hammered right now.
http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/ ... - e2superman, on 01/09/2009, -0/+13Not to be a dick, but how did that decrease their writers ability to, well, write?
- Bhu8888, on 01/09/2009, -1/+14Just remember what OS you use describes what kind of person you are and you should defend it to the death.
- bullsfan03, on 01/09/2009, -4/+17tech stuff on the FP! It's a miracle!
- SojanLobo, on 01/09/2009, -0/+13So you own a Mac and don't dual boot. And you don't use Windows. So how did you lose money on Vista again? Gimme a *****' break.
- brownr21, on 01/09/2009, -3/+16Yeah, people actually tried it. Amazing how that works.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -3/+16You're right, because most PC users give a ***** what major corporations are switching to.
- jeremymccurdy, on 01/09/2009, -4/+16Because I can build a PC with better specs for a fraction of the cost?
- Modestexcuse, on 01/09/2009, -0/+12You want a damn cookie?
- EtherGnat, on 01/09/2009, -0/+11I remember promises that Vista was going to be faster than XP, but I don't remember any benchmarks and reviews ever claiming that.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+11OMFG, nobullmouth just got pwnd!
- Topher06, on 01/09/2009, -1/+12I don't think any reporter should say "try it for yourself" at the end of an OS beta review. Unlike a beta of IE or FireFox, upgrading from an older OS is not a trivial task and is generally a one way street. Twits that run out and get a public beta of Windows 7 to update their only computer are going to be here on Digg bitching the loudest about how it screwed up their MP3's or something.
- Jeepinator, on 01/09/2009, -3/+14Actually it uses about 600 MB of memory on a fresh install. It runs faster than Vista and XP. Control Panel has been streamlined. Take the time to figure things out and you will like it more.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+12LMAO, kde copies vista's interface and its called innovation, but they made the bar bigger and its ripping off osx/kde.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+11Because on my computer it takes about 30 seconds, maybe less. Buy new hardware.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -2/+12"Apple OSX - Because we enjoy paying for service packs which should be free."
