- AdmiralAcbar, on 06/25/2009, -20/+257Looks like I might actually buy a copy of Windows... Man, it's been a long time since I've said that.
- krayvis, on 06/25/2009, -16/+233It'll still be better than Vista...
Not quite as appealing as a $29 Snow Leopard upgrade for me, but no way I'm gonna pass up a $50 upgrade for my Vista box... cheapest, legit way there probably ever will be. - ctrlzee, on 06/25/2009, -10/+181Half the internet has already tested Windows 7 RCs, and it most certainly doesn't suck.
- kromix, on 06/25/2009, -32/+197Beautiful, Highest paying customers ABUSED by Microsoft again.
Not only are the Ultimate upgrades not reflecting any discount, the "Discount period comming up where Home users get an upgrade for $49.99, and Professional users get $99.99 upgrades, there will be NO discount for Ultimate users. WHO DECIDED THIS, I'd like to email that department or that person directly, as an ultimate adopter and biggest spender I believe we have the right to be heard? It is pretty ridiculous. Not only that, but even _IF_ I wanted to pay $49.99 for Home Premium I still can't because the _ONLY_ Upgrade path we ultimate users have is Vista Ultimate -> 7 Ultimate. So you tie us into NO other choice but to pay 219.99 upgrade.
Do you think just because we are the big spenders you can tie us until paying another 219.99 for the upgrade?
VERY disappointing, will be looking at other options or just going to back to XP Pro. Ridiculous that you won't even offer a cheaper ultimate upgrade for the next few weeks like you do for Home Premium and Professional.
IF you want to screw Ultimate users so badly, ATLEAST give us the option to downgrade from Vista Ultimate -> 7 Home Premium so we can upgrade for $49.99.
I'll wait for a scene release.
Oh and can't forget, ***** THE RIAA!!!! - harrisbradley, on 06/26/2009, -3/+101I'll drop $50 which is $10 less than they charge me for a 360 game.
- crackah, on 06/25/2009, -40/+119***** the European Commission seriously.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -6/+78To all the MS users still using XP - go get yourself a beta copy of 7 and be amazed. Don't fear change - you will love 7.
- blackninja543, on 06/25/2009, -19/+85Ill stick with RC to the point where i need to torrent it :D
- tvblogcan, on 06/26/2009, -8/+66Am I the only one that thinks Microsoft are playing a very smart move with the EU. Each time Microsoft have done this (the removal of IE8, the removal of ablity to easily upgrade) everyone starts hating the EU's laws a little more. It's like a slighty more mature way of Microsoft to say ***** you to the EU commision..
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -8/+63I know - you can't give something away for free with something else you sold. WTF talk about screwing the end users. I mean without IE8 how the hell are you going to download firefox?

- SpartanA24, on 06/25/2009, -5/+48Unless they decide to change everything from how it was in the release candidate, no it will not suck
- Kragnerac, on 06/25/2009, -5/+47Wow. I love their pricing for Ultimate (the one I want to go for). USD$220 clearly beats the $400 they wanted for Vista. :)
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -3/+40i meant RC - i hate it when people mince words - you all knew what the ***** i was talking about
- deaftly, on 06/26/2009, -3/+40You're a ninja, not a pirate.
- BrettersonX, on 06/26/2009, -4/+39don't get beta, get RC.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -21/+54$29 for a service pack - that is so typical of apple
- MasterMic, on 06/26/2009, -2/+35I don't think the average person will know how to FTP...
- roxgod666, on 06/26/2009, -6/+38***** Christ, do you realize that it has been out for almost 7 months now? The first beta was great, and the RC will be very similar to the final release.
- Sabretou, on 06/26/2009, -5/+33My Troll Detector is beeping, hmm.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -2/+29$220 doesn't beat $400?
- warp99, on 06/26/2009, -0/+25I see that Microsoft decided to use Vaseline instead of giving it dry this time around.
- NinjaGod, on 06/26/2009, -2/+26You called a ninja?
- theonlywizdum, on 06/26/2009, -8/+32Why are you being dugg down? I demand answers!
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -11/+33Well there is the little matter of buying the expensive Apple hardware to run OSX
- Jeepinator, on 06/26/2009, -4/+26That would be the fault of the printer manufacturer.
- KevinRosa, on 06/26/2009, -3/+2512 years to be exact
- TheGrimChaos, on 06/26/2009, -0/+20can you upgrade from xp?
- Mike17102, on 06/26/2009, -4/+23Apple could give a ***** if you pay for their OSes. They dont even have serial numbers, so you can just grab it off a torrent site.
Apple wants you to buy their hardware, thats all. - inactive, on 06/26/2009, -2/+20if that is true that is ***** awesome - plus a MS OS needs less bloatware like a bunch of ***** preinstalled than more. if you buy a laptop usually the first thing you do is uninstall a bunch of dumbass *****. this is the same thing just government mandated. and what if they tell you that one of the mandated browsers is the bonzi buddy cause it will make somebody in politics some money. ***** the EU and ***** you too. that's like saying that linux distros shouldn't be allowed to package gimp.
- PacoLugi, on 06/26/2009, -3/+19Just ordered a copy from Amazon $50.
- Claverhouse, on 06/26/2009, -3/+19Most europeans won't care. Firefox has already overtaken IE7 in Europe and will be the most used browser by a year or so. The fusty old hold-outs foolish enough to use IE are mainly business orientated, few of whom will be mass upgrading their OSes to Windows 7.
There are half a dozen ways of getting any browser without needing a browser to download it. Alternatively, poor old Microsoft could just bite the bullet and supply a choice of untied browsers as do most other OS distributions. - DanielPhermous, on 06/26/2009, -4/+20Patches are tightening bolts on an engine and replacing worn parts. Service Packs are a complete service to do a bunch of repair work. Snow Leopard, however, is a new model engine replacement.
Same as Vista, actually. Vista changed a great deal under the hood too (It's why Vista broke a lot of software but it was something that had to be done) but had some GUI enhancements as well. Snow Leopard's concentrating just on the engine. - kurupttek, on 06/25/2009, -18/+34Good news everyone!
- m00n1, on 06/26/2009, -8/+23I don't get the comparisons with snow leopard. It's apples and oranges. Apple have much shorter release cycles, with, typically, fewer features per cycle, so it should be cheaper. Leopard > Snow Leopard is (very loosely) equivalent to Windows XP SP1 > Windows XP SP2.
- Jeepinator, on 06/26/2009, -4/+19If you bought OSX then bought all of the updates to it, you would spend way over that.
- cheddaro, on 06/26/2009, -21/+34"It's not the $30 Mac users will pay for the Snow Leopard upgrade, but it's a move in the right direction."
Aren't Mac users actually paying $30 for what would amount to a free service pack under Windows? - Harbinger67, on 06/26/2009, -14/+27Shut the ***** up. Chances are, you don't even NEED Ultimate. You just like to have it because it's 'the best'. If you want the best, you pay for it. This is the technology, you ALWAYS pay a premium for the top-tier stuff. Deal with it.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -2/+15Did you really feel the need to point out that you are a Mac user? As if anyone gives a *****.
- FKnight, on 06/26/2009, -3/+16If a printer manufacturer has Windows Vista x64 drivers and they don't work in Windows 7 x64, I'd have to guess that those drivers are hard-coded to fail in order to force you to buy a newer printer since Windows 7 and Vista use the same drivers.
This isn't anything new. Hardware manufacturers have been screwing customers for years. - kromix, on 06/25/2009, -4/+17Good concept, but RTFA and understand the upgrade paths before you comment.
IF you can upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate -> Windows 7 HOME PREMIUM or even Professional I wouldn't be bitching, but the upgrade path is *ONLY*
Windows Vista Ultimate -> Windows 7 Ultimate - Memnochxx, on 06/26/2009, -1/+14There /was/ a large difference between Vista Pro and Vista Ultimate. Much of that difference has disappeared in 7, that's true. But people already have Vista Ultimate, and there's no good upgrade price for the Ultimate sku, and you can't upgrade from Ultimate to Pro.
- benman587, on 06/26/2009, -0/+12"will be looking at other options or just going to back to XP Pro"
If you have XP Pro you can do the upgrade to 7 Home Premium or Pro. - JoeHague, on 06/26/2009, -1/+13I'd really like to know where you get your information from? Every article I've ever read has made it quite clear that the issues the EU has had with WMP and now IE8 are of a anti-trust nature.
- roblange17, on 06/26/2009, -5/+17@HeavyWave
And Microsoft was just suppose to say, 'Yeah sure, we'll provide support for the hundreds of millions of customers now installing and using your 3rd party software on our Operating System.' The support costs would be HUGE and there would be hundreds of bugs! Do you know how much money Microsoft spends trying to test/support it's own software in the operating system? It's absolutely INSANE to expect Microsoft to do that, so they were forced to do the only other thing possible. - jakem1, on 06/26/2009, -0/+12No, there won't be any direct upgrade path from XP to 7. XP users will have to do a clean install.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -3/+14try a year
- ijwhelan, on 06/26/2009, -3/+14You're dumb.
- Kazbaeden, on 06/26/2009, -2/+13Home Premium is their consumer level OS. For years people have been saying that OS X (a consumer OS) is fairly priced at $120. Why is $120 too high all of a sudden?
