- doshindude, on 10/27/2009, -36/+110Launch parties by default are kinda pathetic.
Nonetheless, Windows 7 kicks the ***** out of everything. - tidu, on 10/27/2009, -1/+69I don't think I expected anyone to actually have one of these "parties"... I don't think Microsoft did either
- dyintrovert2, on 10/27/2009, -1/+59"Woot! I'm installing. Pop the Champaign!"
"Time for Pin the Tail On the Apple!"
I love Windows 7, but it's not exactly that kind of happy feeling. - CTristan79, on 10/27/2009, -3/+56another idea from an executive bigwig that no one had enough balls to tell them it was the stupidest idea in the ***** world.how in the hell do these kinds of things happen with these big companies, like when Michael bay was directing transformers 2 on one said "hey mike the parents are ***** annoying"
- Vermifax, on 10/27/2009, -22/+74If "everything" meaning "previous versions of Windows" then, yeah...
- Dumprun, on 10/27/2009, -2/+35dugg for the party photo. one of my favorites.
- BlackJackJester, on 10/27/2009, -0/+30I can't speak for anyone else, but when we all dropped acid, the whole event became amazing.
- lolwatermelon, on 10/27/2009, -2/+25It's an operating system, not a religion. Microsoft is trying to get people to act like Apple Fanbois about their OS. Someone needs to tell Microsoft that something like that can't be manufactured.
- seltaeb4, on 10/27/2009, -1/+22People were afraid that Gates and Seinfeld might show up.
- ghostlywind, on 10/27/2009, -0/+20That kid is rocking the ***** out of that guitar
- Humptydank, on 10/27/2009, -1/+19If someone invited me to one of these parties I would contact everyone else on the guest list and turn it into an intervention.
- MachineMessiah, on 10/27/2009, -0/+17Woo! I can't wait to put in my regional settings! We're getting drunk tonight, boys!
- Neriosang, on 10/27/2009, -5/+22This was the most pathetic idea I have ever seen from Microsoft. They throw home parties for Window 7, they started opening Microsoft stores which sell other vendors' products and they advertise through BurgerKing. What is next? Putting an ad on Cheetos?
- MacBookForMe, on 10/27/2009, -3/+19I love every single opportunity where Guiness is served...no matter the cause...
- EvilJelloMan, on 10/27/2009, -0/+15The parents? The parents are the one thing from that holocaust you chose to point out?? Really?
how about "hey mike - only 11 year olds are going to find it funny that you gave testicles to a robot - everyone else will think you're a gigantic *****." - Arkveld, on 10/27/2009, -1/+16I thought the majority of digg was anti apple, or at least anti apple-fanboys?
- fuzzynyanko, on 10/27/2009, -0/+15Not surprised. Windows doesn't exactly get a cult-like following that Mac OSX and LINUX gets.
- manstein01, on 10/27/2009, -2/+16Or Microsoft's marketing team is secretly working for apple. I swear sometimes its the case.
- magamiako, on 10/27/2009, -4/+18This was an attempt by Microsoft to reduce the financial cost of hosting its own OS launch party while still trying to generate buzz about the product.
Since Windows 7 is doing very well in reviews in general, it's going to be hard to argue that the launch parties were in general a failure, even if people say they sucked. - jeffwmartin, on 10/27/2009, -1/+14Windows 7: Reformatting Day. Released straight to DVD
- cbeach, on 10/27/2009, -0/+13The "launch party" idea was deliberately naff, designed to go viral.
Seriously, does anyone think MS paid ~$100K's for this campaign so that a few real-life Windows 7 Launch Parties would actually happen?
Look at all the discussion that this crap has caused - bjs3171, on 10/27/2009, -1/+13what kind of movie is Windows 7? Is it like Hackers, or Firewall?
- lotus22, on 10/27/2009, -6/+18When did everyone become a Microsoft fanboy?
- CapeKid, on 10/27/2009, -1/+13Guiness is fantastic when served properly. A lot of those college bars put it in plastic cups, which is a travesty to such a fine brew.
Pint glass or nothing. - altdawg, on 10/27/2009, -1/+13The fact that you are all here talking about Windows 7 parties is generating buzz about Windows 7 so... It would seem that the parties, lame or not, got people talking about Windows 7. Isn't that the point of marketing?
- Humptydank, on 10/27/2009, -3/+14Now that you have admitted you've been to one, you should really change your username.
- Warom, on 10/27/2009, -2/+13To be honest it all just seems like a bit of fun. I don't think Microsoft believed it would do much. Just another way for them to reach out to their users.
- jp2535, on 10/27/2009, -10/+21The one I went to was great at my friends work with about 15 people. We had drinks, food, friends huge tv to watch windows 7 on, took questions on a mic, then we all won a prize, and my friend won a plane ticket any where in the USA. I loved the party idea, but I wish we could have received windows 7 discounts
- decker12, on 10/27/2009, -2/+11That sounds like a short season in hell.
- cbeach, on 10/27/2009, -6/+15lotus22: "When did everyone become a Microsoft fanboy?"
When "Product Awareness" companies got paid by Microsoft to astroturf digg and other social news sites. - inactive, on 10/27/2009, -0/+8If I could Digg this article 100 times just for the picture of the kid with the guitar, I would.
- cyrix, on 10/27/2009, -1/+9It used to not be that way. It used to be an apple fanboys dream come true.
- FearlessFreep, on 10/27/2009, -0/+8The positive reviews are in spite of the launch parties, not because of them.
- norman619, on 10/27/2009, -0/+8Software release parties in general are idiotic.
- SirPsycho, on 10/27/2009, -4/+12It worked! How much Windows 7 talk was generated by these stupid parties. Pure genius!
- Jacob, on 10/27/2009, -7/+15Since they came out with an OS that didn't suck donkey balls.
- svivian, on 10/27/2009, -0/+7Or when Michael Bay was directing any film ever and no one said "this is a piece of ***** and you are the worst director ever".
♫ Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?
♫ I guess Pearl Harbor sucked,
♫ Just a little bit more than I miss you. - BossKey, on 10/27/2009, -1/+7"Hey Dave, our astroturfer in Marketing saw this great idea on the Internet, for our Windows campaign...we oughta be putting ads on Cheetos!! Oh, and what about that Family Guy show you like so much, is it big with the hipsters? We need to get to that target demo."
- Velocity14, on 10/27/2009, -0/+6The flying turtle puzzle was pretty sweet, but I had to agree with my friend when he expressed disappointment that the balloons weren't branded with Windows 7. The napkins were... but not the balloons. Tsk, tsk, Microsoft... tsk, tsk.
- Trifold, on 10/27/2009, -0/+6Thanks for the comment, Mr. 1998.
- slicker76, on 10/27/2009, -0/+6Dugg for being blog spam. Hah!
- funk49, on 10/27/2009, -1/+7Why didn't they try to make it somewhat cool and incorporate a gaming theme ala LAN party or something? When I heard this, I thought it was a joke. Who the ***** celebrates an OS launch by throwing a party? The only reason I could think of even doing this is for a tax write-off.
On a side note, I saw the store launch and laf'd as well when they showed people in line wearing Bing shirts. Could it have been any more obvious that MS hired people to wait in line? - ngmcs8203, on 10/27/2009, -0/+5That midget is really rocking out on that real life guitar hero controller.
- Vesuvias, on 10/27/2009, -0/+5... sounds to me like Jacob may just have a vested interest in this "Three Floyds" beer co.... I have been and tasted many beers, but 1) I know a good beer and avoid the snobbery 2) I have never heard, nor tasted a Three Floyds beer
Guinness is a fine beer, especially when it comes straight from the brewery in Dublin. It's not for everyone, but Jacob quit snobbing and drink up man! - se7envii, on 10/27/2009, -0/+5Who cares? Free copies of Windows 7 and a reason to party -- sounds good to me!
- stillhateyou, on 10/27/2009, -2/+7Oooh, the old "only homosexuals use products that I disapprove of" line. An old one, but definitely a keeper, man! Keep rockin!
- Skinner72, on 10/27/2009, -0/+4No complaints about my free copy of Windows 7 though.
- juliusthecat, on 10/27/2009, -0/+4Wow - you are a beer snob so that must make you cool.
- gn0stik, on 10/27/2009, -1/+5Mine was pretty lame at first too. Then it devolved into rockband, tequila, and eventually body shots. By the end of the night, I looked a lot like that kid in the pic minus the pants.
