- doshindude, on 11/15/2009, -19/+313It's 30 bucks if you're student, it's actually worth it this time around.
- rolf, on 11/15/2009, -3/+9How much is the pro version for nonstudents?
- dawpa2000, on 11/15/2009, -11/+8If you are a student part of MSDNAA and university math / tech, you can get Windows 7 Professional for free rather than pay $30.
If you are a non-student, anyone who recently bought a computer can get a Windows 7 upgrade (unspecified shipping and handling):

There were all kinds of Windows 7 deals, which are now expired. For example:
6 Licenses of Windows 7 Professional for $19:

Free Windows 7 Professional Event:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/945776/ - sahaskatta, on 11/15/2009, -9/+3same, $30 :)
http://www.win741.com - tweaq, on 11/15/2009, -8/+1shipping and handling is about $16
- SPECOPS, on 11/15/2009, -1/+8Did anyone read that rolf asked for the NON student price? I've seen it as low as 139.00 - check for deals on amazon/costco/sams club --- but maybe what people were referring to was you shouldn't pay that price when you can get it for $29.99 ( if you have or can obtain an .edu email address ). Search "the ultimate steal" for the pro version (vs the home premium version most students got for the same price).
- Sniper, on 11/15/2009, -0/+3My sister bought an Acer laptop which said she could get Windows 7 free, unfortunately Acer use a 3rd party website which doesn't recognize her serial number.

- Cryoniq, on 11/15/2009, -33/+5How can it be worth it ever? Exactly what is worth it for a student? Exactly what is worth it for anyone?
Yay honey! Lets look at the baby pictures of Bwian when he was 3 years old! Wait.. wt.. frack! All videos and pictures are scrambled! And on this one too! And on the safety backup! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
(turns out there was a little scrambler virus on that media center edition of Windows 7 back in 2010 that antiviruses didn't detect. Or a nice little bug Microsoft actually fixed a while later, but ordinary users don't read tech sections of magazines if they happen there.. )
This already happened to people around me.. All their pictures and videos from 5-10 years.. gone.. for ever. Of course.. that doesn't happen to anyone of us brightheads of geeks.. does it? ;)- seltaeb4, on 11/15/2009, -19/+4Buy a Mac as insurance.
- Mercedes383, on 11/15/2009, -2/+29What the hell are you talking about?
- cryinlion85, on 11/15/2009, -16/+1dude...who stores pictures and videos on their hard drive anymore?
- candorny, on 11/15/2009, -4/+16That's a cool little story you just made up.
So...let's see...we are supposd to believe the following series of ***** tales
1. You have friends
2. Your friends got a Windows 7 computer and immediately put 5-10 years worth of pictures on it and then DELETED the originals.
3. Your friends got a virus already evne though anyone with even an ounce of common sense has used Windows for years with ZERO problems.
Seriously...until the day you shoot yourself in a hear after realizing how sad you have let your life become, relaize that this comment made YOU look bad, not Microsoft. - Edgers, on 11/15/2009, -0/+14Back in 2010..? Are you from the... future?
- toxicshok, on 11/15/2009, -1/+3Where were going we won't need roads .... or proper grammer.
- Zalyster, on 11/16/2009, -1/+1No, no "were" not going to need proper grammar, or spelling as it may.
- thatsmyaibo, on 11/15/2009, -2/+7Where can I get that price? My old college is selling it for 139.
- doshindude, on 11/15/2009, -0/+6http://www.win741.com/
- thatsmyaibo, on 11/15/2009, -0/+2Ok I looked into it and you're right. The problem is it's only the upgrade so I can't do a clean install on my mac's bootcamp partition. I'm bummed.
Does anyone know if the OEM disc I bought from newegg will work on a second active computer? Then I can do the upgrade. - joemc72, on 11/15/2009, -0/+4Actually, I did a clean install from the student upgrade. It's a complicated process, though.
- Elranzer, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1Pay the extra $16 to get a physical disc with your order. The Win741 physical disc has the full version.
- inactive, on 11/15/2009, -2/+10Came free at my school :)
- wcstryfe10, on 11/15/2009, -2/+13that's what she said
- tragedyfish, on 11/15/2009, -1/+4I'm sure they added a fee in your tuition somewhere.

Microsoft must not like your school. - diothar, on 11/15/2009, -6/+4I remember XP was $5 when I was a student.
- iamsmooth, on 11/15/2009, -0/+4Google Windows 7 student deal, should be able to find a page where you enter your school email and if your school is registered as a college/university, then you'll qualify for the deal. Can't go wrong for 30 bucks.
- Numbski, on 11/15/2009, -15/+3It's Herpes 7! It's *worth it* this time!
Pass. :P
(I kid.)
(Kinda.) - harazek, on 11/15/2009, -1/+1I would've taken up this offer if Home Premium supports dual/quad core in seperate sockets. Also, it doesn't come with XP Emulation (this probably wouldn't bother most students anyways).
- SPECOPS, on 11/15/2009, -0/+3You can get the pro version (also $29.99 for .edu addresses) search: the ultimate steal
- schoate09, on 11/15/2009, -0/+6You can get the professional edition through the student program. Go in to sign up, and at the bottom it will say "need to access domains, click here". Click it, and you can get professional edition for 30 bucks. I did.
- SPECOPS, on 11/15/2009, -0/+3You can get the pro version (also $29.99 for .edu addresses) search: the ultimate steal
- antdude, on 11/15/2009, -0/+1Any good deals for alumnus, faculty members, IT professionals (e.g., SQA testers)?
- danteinferno, on 11/15/2009, -1/+5You can get Windows 7 PRO edition 32 and 64-bit edition with the student discount—$30 with a valid edu email address—straight from Microsoft. That's what I did without zero hassles.
- Hobbes24, on 11/15/2009, -3/+1it's only $7.95 for students at iowa
:P- virtualball, on 11/15/2009, -1/+5Ya but you still lost to OSU yesterday, so take your wins with your losses.

- virtualball, on 11/15/2009, -3/+3Our school (OSU) had a "Windows 7 Load Day" and they loaded it onto student's laptops and allowed you to purchase it for $30. I let them upgrade my Vista to 7 Professional and then they gave me the DVD. To get a serial, I had to go online and purchase it. Once I purchased it, I was given a Home Premium serial which _wouldn't_work_ with Professional. So, I had to download (I think) 3 gigs for the DVD image and THEN reformat my HDD and lose my files (I backed up, but that's not the point), I paid $30 for the right to legally own one of the lowest forms of the OS and for the opportunity to lose my files. Thanks! Next time I'm just going to pirate it, it's probably easier...
- Pinhedd, on 11/15/2009, -0/+2I got Server 2008 R2 for free off of Dreamspark
