- sloppychris, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8It's interesting how linux users often site the hundreds of distributions available as the benefit of choice, while some users complain about the 4 or 5 editions of Windows as confusing. I'm not saying they're the same people because I hate when opinions are generalized like that, but I have heard both opinions a lot.
Don't get all mad, I'm an Ubuntu user 2+ years running. But put me in the camp that having 100s of linux distributions is unnecessary, hurts the linux brand, and is especially confusing to new users. - zip000, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8I really don't see that many advantages to the Pro over the Home.
I just pre-ordered the Home version yesterday. I'm a linux fanboy, but the Windows 7 beta seems really good. I kinda hate giving microsoft my money, but at the same time, I like this product and don't support pirating software.

Whenever I try to talk about the reasons for the above, it turns into an epic flamewar because of the desire just about every Linux user has to defend their platform at all costs. It thus goes nowhere and problems not only go unadressed, they go denied.
Most people at this point go back to using Windows/OSX/Whatever works for them. A few people actually get along fine with Linux (which is fine) and join the 'collective'.
Ultimately the Linux community chases anyone with a dissenting opinion out of town, and every time this happens they get more and more isolated and myopic, unable to see what could possible be wrong, unable to grasp any reason why people would not use it, instead chalking it up to things like monopoly, stupidity, lack of education etc.
I don't use Linux because, quite frankly, it sucks. 99% of the world also doesn't use it because it sucks. Either listen to the reasons why people don't use it and actually CATER FOR YOUR TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC, or stop trying to jam it down our throats.

- marcb83, on 06/30/2009, -2/+9if you spend 400$ on a computer you are asking for headaches. the cheaper the computer regaurdless of how good it seems with its 3.0 ghz processor and 2gigs of ram I assure you they are the lowest quality components which will fail or give you problems.

You can set up a security policy so that USB thumbdrives may only be used if they are protected by Bitlocker. I doubt any other crypto package will be able to use this special new variant of the USB drive policy setting, at least at launch, which may make Ultimate appealing to some, if very few, parties worried about stopping newbs from copying sensitive documents to an unencrypted source.

I have been trying out almost every build and I gotta say as a user the last one feels the same as the 1st build because none of them ever gave any prob. If on MS wasn't trying to rob people then I would have definitely root for Win 7.

Pro = for the small business or advanced home user who needs things like joining a domain or massive amounts of RAM.

The only legitimate reason to buy Ultimate was if you needed a mixture of Home Premium and Business features. As 7 Pro now offers that mix that will be the way to go for most Vista Ultimate users.
