- admirabumblebee, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29from macobserver.com? I love a good vista bashing as much as the next douchebag but..
Fishy indeed. I smell bias... or fish. one of the two. - quomen, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23wtf who's working IT for these companies? This is absolute FUD. You know why? I'm running Vista, and for the most part my experience has been a lot more pleasant than that with Windows XP. Vista recognized my printer, second LCD screen, and two portable hard drives with no problem. And this is on a laptop.. What are they talking about with it being so slow? My god they really should fire the people setting their computers up because i've enjoyed running Vista on this system. And no business should be running Vista home basic. Or anybody for that matter. Notice who's writing this.. The mac observer? The only gripe i have with vista so far is that not all software vendors have optimized their software for Vista, but full support will come out soon enough. I'm already getting higher 3Dmark 06 and 05 scores that I did when I was running XP.
Ok to sum it up, im just tired of this vista hating. You guys should use it yourselves for maybe more than two seconds? And see how much of an improvement it is.
This said, all fanboys are hater loser need-something-to-do, d-bags... MS and APL and Linux alike. - heynow21, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Sounds to me more like the horror of Lenovo. The sound card is especially prone to messing up Vista.
- masterc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14They didn't try to install Vista on non compatible systems- they actually bought new computers from Lenovo, with Vista pre-installed.
- weizilla, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Vista runs perfectly fine on my computer. I don't know what they're doing but I did not encounter any of those problems.
- Yarnage, on 10/11/2007, -8/+20My company is shifting to Vista and we've had zero issues. Even people with much older machines are running Vista with Aero at 1920 X 1600 and it's just as fast as XP with less crashing.
This article seems fishy - joe90210, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12lolz AMD has almost completely migrated to Vista. Sounds to me like it's a problem with a 2 bit company with it's incompetent IT departement than a problem with Vista
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12But... the cool hipster Mac guy on the TV said that Vista is too complicated for any human to understand. How did you guys who have Vista running smoothly pull off such a feat?!
- amphoterous, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12@linkedlist
The same thing happened for me:
- No problems installing
- Boot time was wayyyyy faster
- Aero worked perfectly
- All the programs I use, worked fine when I installed them (with the exception of MSVS 2005 which I had to download some obscenely large patch for.. although MS did let me know that I needed the patch during installation) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Yeah this story is quite biased. They blame Vista rather than the vendor(Lenovo). I have a computer that is probably half the speed of these new certified pc's they are using and everything works fine and dandy. I installed Vista about 3 months ago and the only problem I had was finding drivers. Now that I have found every driver I need Vista rocks. I wouldn't ever consider going back to XP now that my system runs as well as it does. Oh, and you mac fanboys can drown in your kool-aid along with those annoying commercials. I prefer to build my own pc and always will.
- rancidpony, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7The "article" is way too light on the details. If it is running slower, what were the system specs? Processor-RAM-FSB? Harddrive too small? What size was installed? Programs not working? Which ones? Which version of Vista was preinstalled?
If someone is having a crappy time with Vista, I would like to know. But we also need details out here.
They might just of well just said "Vista sucks" and it would have been equally informative. - schizogony, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6At least this got them to finally switch over to Firefox.
- theMurdocVolta, on 10/11/2007, -2/+72.08 gHz AMD Athlon XP 2800+
512 RAM
GeForce 6200 256DDR2
150GB HDD
Vista Ultimate with Aero
and not a damn thing is slow or problematic
User Error is the only thing that was wrong in this case. - mbthompson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Marked as inaccurate for obvious reasons stated previously by other diggers.
- silverwolfe, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I'd shift the blame onto Lenovo for screwing these people over, not Microsoft.
I run Vista on a dual-boot system and it runs fine. I have my wireless card working and all my drivers for all my hardware are configured and functional. It's quick and all around a much smoother experience than XP is. Aside from gaming that is. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It does bring more to the table. No matter how mnany times you fanboys claim it does not will not make it a fact.
- shirosamurai, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I'd say the problem is with the preinstalled software/preinstalled Vista. I've installed several retail versions of Vista on machines that I've built up myself and they all run very smoothly with no bugs or slowness. Though, the most the machines were built with 2GB of RAM and a fairly nice processor. Even on XP I've seen lots of buggy stuff crop up when it comes preinstalled along with a bunch of other crap by some big PC company. This columnist should be writing against Lenovo instead of writing a smear against Vista. And the fact that this comes from the "Mac Observer" website, well...
- troydoogle7, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7I have uninstalled it and moved back to xp...
Windows drivers for display are flakey at best...
Every time my computer restarts, I get some sort of strange combination of display resolutions and configurations accross my 2 displays
It sometimes takes ages to delete a single file...
Its slower
Quickbooks uk doesn't work properly on it
am very sceptical that everyone managed to find their performance went UP and never had any issues whatsover....
I guess you guys don't run any applications on your computers.... its the only explanation. - arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5The simple fact that this article is on a pro-Mac blog, it deserves to be buried. There's nothing worse than a biased, anti-Microsoft article from a Mac advocate (or vice versa).
I used Vista daily for about 4 months and ended up hating it with a passion. That doesn't mean I want to be subliminally forced to use OSX. Please bury this crap. - reevolutn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3havent had any problems running vista premium on my p4 3ghz with 1gb of ram. i cant imagine them buying new computers any slower so im guessing the user or the hardware is to blame. not the software
- danpalphi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Why do Mac users constantly bash other computers and their users? If you're happy with your Mac, good for you. I use windows (auto digg down I guess) and I´m sure OSX is fine too. Stop whining.
- squeaker, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6This sounds about right. I was running Vista Ultimate for several months until I decided that the software incompatibilities, slow system, and useless "reorganizations" from XP weren't worth the hassle. I went back to XP. I'll be doing the same for my dad's new laptop in the next week for the same reasons (which he came to independent of me). There's no compelling reason to upgrade to Vista.
That said, the people calling it WinME II are very premature in their assessment. They said the same thing about XP when it came out. - longzheng, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4"You'll get your Mac news here from now on."
Must be a misprint. - ArPharazon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Buried.
Microsoft delivered the OS, with a base set of drivers - so its now up to the individual hardware manufacturers (in this case - Lenovo) to produce updated Vista compatible drivers, so the fault lies with Lenovo.
Its pretty clear that the IT department of that company (Transit) failed to test the new hardware before purchasing it.
I'm happy to report that I have Vista Ultimate installed on a 3yr old PC with only 1GB of ram (Aero interface is enabled - UAC disabled though) and its running just fine. My games (Unreal Tournament 2004 / CounterStrike:Source / World Of Warcraft / Command & Conquer 3) all run fine too, however I do experience sound distortion occasionally, but thats because my sound card (Creative Audigy 2 ZS) is not yet fully supported (beta driver) - and for that I blame Creative Labs - not Microsoft. - Nysul, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4I had vista installed on 2 machines, and the only reason I went back to XP is because I didn't want to have to deal with piracy reactivation and NVIDIA had ***** driver support for the 7900 on one machine.
This article is pure FUD. Vista has alot of flaws (I believe they should have left the sound and video alone) but vista is more stable, boots faster, runs about the same as XP for regular tasks with aero off, and if anything ip config is easier. My linksys router randomly changes ips every once and awhile, while vista prevents it from doing so. Most of their concerns seem to be with Lenovo, who did not release vista compatible drivers and utilities. If I was "The Transit Company" I would fire my IT staff and hire someone competent. - radiantm3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's definitely going to take some time for hardware drivers to be updated/optimized for vista. I was running the last beta of vista via bootcamp on my macbook pro and it ran flawless. Aside from not being able to play a few games (at the time), the OS itself ran great. I think microsoft has a winner with vista. The big issue is getting the rest of the industry to catch up. This is what happens when a company that makes the software doesn't have control over the hardware. Both scenarios have their pros and cons. Personally, I prefer running OS X and enjoy tight integration between my software/hardware so I stick with the "kool-aid". But in the windows world, I think vista is definitely a worthy successor to xp and a really nice OS in itself. I remember when everyone said XP sucks and went back to win2k.
- BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have the same sound card and they came out with non-beta drivers for Vista, go install em :-)
- BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1People seem to not be able to understand that some people might *gasp* actually like the freedom that comes PCs.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This man tells the truth,
- reevolutn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2you and your friends are retards
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Grammar much?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Mac have a huge range of software so anything you can do on a PC, i can do on a Mac. It doesn't have such an extensive selection of games but then I didn't buy it for gaming.
And equipment? Chances are, anything that will plug into a PC will work fine on a Mac. There is a *small* amount of peripherals that refuse to work but nearly everything else work fine and, better still, without drivers. - panzaman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3second that, Mac users are becoming more and more like Scientology adepts
- BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I am running Vista and everything is fast and smooth. So um, sux for this company :-P
- kivimaki, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Buried for blatant lack of respect for logical thought.
It is cutting edge operating system. Expecting it to run on no-where-near-the-edge hardware is just naive. The next version of OSX isn't going to run on my 800Mhz iBook like I want it to, either. - cptn_cardboard, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3my neighbor was all super psyched about installing vista on his laptop. He and his roomate both had super awesome desktops (dont remember the specs, but they were made from the best parts they could buy at the local comp shop) and they both had installed vista on them. The tech savvy one's comp worked fine, but the other one's comp had so many errors I couldnt help but laugh when he booted it. He got errors like "NVIDIA DRIVERS NOT FOUND, EXIT IS THE ONLY OPTION" in all caps like that. He was sorta a bonehead and he blamed everything but the OS. I eventually had to spell it out for him that it was vista's fault that his beefy machine was as fast as my packard bell. I asked him why he wants it so bad and he said he didnt know. I asked him how flash and photoshop worked on it (I think you can tell what he does for a living) and he said flash is dog slow, and photoshop wont even install. He's had that setup for about 2 months. I asked him what he uses it for and he said "everything but web stuff.... and games..." So that leaves web browsing and email. A $900 computer brought to its knees by a poorly designed OS. Long story short, there is absolutely no reason to install vista right now. The absolute BEST scenario is your computer and all your applications run the same speed as it did under XP.
- silverwolfe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2You can get Panther or Tiger on that thing though. I have Panther on my G3 Wallstreet.
- Aidanjalali, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2"you have to be to stick your hand into the fire repeatedly and suffer with all horrible problems before they try an alternative.
Jebus, OS X has been kicking the living daylights out of everything in the market for the past 5-6 years. How long
is it going to take them to finally realize it's time to
make the switch to Apple and OS X."
That was a quote from their comments. It nearly made me barf. What the hell is wrong with these people? I can GUARANTEE that 100% of the people bashing Vista on that site are so far up Apple's arses they've not even tried it. And yet, they continue to spur out "witty retorts" like 'Oh, Vista crashing again, WHAT A SURPRISE' and 'Oh, my MAC (*hump*) is compatible with everything right out of the box'. Yeah, it works with everything. Because its got such a limited ***** range of software and equipment. H.o.w. d.o. y.o.u .n.o.t .s.e.e .t.h.e .t.r.u.t.h?! - silverwolfe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1OMFG IT'S A WALL OF TEXT! GET IN TEH CAR!!!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Jesus Christ. I'm tired of all these Vista bashing articles. Windows XP was no different when it came out.
- Swil, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1What FUD. And I don't think Transit is even really a company per se - just seems like a guy writing a professional blog that likes using the Royal We. ITWire doesn't seem to explain itself very well, does anyone know exactly what Transit is?
Mac Observer (clearly a balanced publication) seem to be reporting on a blogger who got a dodgy laptop and treating it like a whole lot more. - mushroom, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1http://www.macobserver.com very inaccurate
- kocharoches, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1BURIED - inaccurate/spam/lame - just consider the source.
- nukem996, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4They should look at ubuntu, at least that has decent networking support.
- graderguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Someone made this hilarious comment:
My company is shifting to Vista and we've had zero issues. Even people with much older machines are running Vista with Aero at 1920 X 1600 and it's just as fast as XP with less crashing.
_LESS_ crashing ... HAH!!
You just give us fanboys more ammo with comments like that!! Keep up the good work. - meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Why do Windows users constantly bash other computers and their users? If you're happy with your PC, good for you. I use a mac (auto digg down I guess) and I´m sure XP is fine too. Stop whining.
It definitely works the other way around too. I've even seen Linux users bash Windows and OS X which is pretty rare. Aren't they all hippies? :P - andywebb95, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1The article seems a bit biased to me.
I am not running Vista myself but a few people I know are and so far they have not had any major complaints.
In fact the only major issue I have seen (to date) are some software and hardware vendors are taking longer to release Vista compliant updates... which would be the same issue with any new OS (whether its an MS OS or not). - iSlayer, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1This coming from a site called the "Mac" observer.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3weeeeeeeee. Running Vista now and haven't run into a single problem. I'ved used machines with Home Basic and Ultimate
- avasol, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1***** you fan-boys!
Vista blows! Most of my games won't run, I hate having to add myself to ACL for each auto-updating game, framerate blows in FPS games compared to same hardware with XP.
I've got news for you asswipes, if all you do is run IE and Word then hell yes Vista will run great, but for everything else it's a disaster, not to mention the built-in DRM and MS-Spyware could make even the most public exhibitionist worried about just how much info Big Brother is getting.
***** MS got people on the payroll to mod this negative but there's plenty of ya out there that knows Vista is a ***** disaster. ***** YOU MS! -
