- inactive, on 02/23/2009, -9/+132Among all the Windows hating going on, I'm actually looking forward to upgrading from XP to Windows 7...
- herrshuster, on 02/23/2009, -9/+132Much thanks for the print view.
On the subject, I think pretty much everything in Windows 7 is improved - hence the 30-item list. - codyman, on 02/23/2009, -4/+117Hey even though I am a Mac guy, I'm glad Microsoft is finally upping the anty on this one / Windows 7 is looking like it's going to be a great release... good competition = good for us, the consumers
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -13/+94Holy *****. A rational, sensible response from a Mac fan.
- inactive, on 02/23/2009, -12/+79"We were among the first journalists to get their hands on the Windows 7 Beta code..."
Something tells me they don't have their hands on the code, but rather the Pubic Beta download. Journalist my ass. This puts the rest of the article in doubt for me right off the bat. - AboveandBeyond, on 02/23/2009, -17/+80The best thing is knowing that microsoft's money goes to charities such as Bill gates and melinda foundation rather than greedy steve jobs.
- TheMidnight, on 02/23/2009, -1/+42Dugg for linking to a printable version on one page.
- canthraxp, on 02/23/2009, -2/+39Quick! Check if a beta Duke Nukem Forever came out!
- inactive, on 02/23/2009, -6/+38Don't get used to it.
- Kamujin, on 02/23/2009, -5/+34Windows 7 is the face saving way for the Vista haters to upgrade without admitting they were wrong.
Personally, I'd like to see more criticism based on educated opinion instead of the blind Microsoft hate / Apple love fest popularity contest that dominated during Vista's release. - TrashyMoped, on 02/23/2009, -6/+33Look someone bashing it that has never tried it, how original.
- DefaultGen, on 02/23/2009, -0/+26Have you ever owned a computer?
- bratterscain, on 02/23/2009, -5/+27#31 - .odf support.
- Solkre, on 02/23/2009, -7/+29I moved from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate on my production laptop. Some of my co-workers seemed surprised by my move, but the Beta runs better than Vista SP1 did.
I've also done my part and sent in some feedback and every crash report (but most of them are apps that hang on their own). - robrohan, on 02/23/2009, -0/+20You can open and edit ODF files in TextEdit on Mac OS X - it's the equivalent to WordPad on windows which could support it if it wanted to (it already supports RTF, like TextEdit, if memory serves).
... in fact I just checked my windows 7 VM and WordPad does indeed save to ODF so the GP was being serious with his comment. - roxgod666, on 02/23/2009, -0/+20Doing a clean install is much better anyway. All the bloat that you might have accumulated won't transfer over.
- RetepNamenots, on 02/23/2009, -3/+23How is babby formed?
- Grazfather, on 02/23/2009, -3/+22they have the... machine code.
- MykeXX, on 02/23/2009, -8/+25I've been on Windows 7 Beta for almost two weeks now and I have not had any issues with it. I had XP and loved it but kinda got bored with its look. It was so 2000. Now with Vista it slowed my machine down and just seemed like it took forever to do anything. Even though W7 is on the same architecture it seems to be running a lot faster than XP and in most of my games I notice a few more FPS. Maybe I'm just imagining the last part but I do like Windows 7 and think Microsoft is taking things in the right direction with this OS.
- scootra, on 02/23/2009, -9/+24Agreed. I'm a PC guy, but I can be friends with this Mac fan. Macfanboys need to take note.
- goffy59, on 02/23/2009, -6/+21I'd love to see Apple make an OS as flexible as Windows. Works with more hardware, and has more software available. As long as you aren't an idiot; computer enthusiasts such as myself have it made. To me, Apple is irrelevant. But above anything else, I can't wait for the day Linux takes over.
- ridestp, on 02/23/2009, -5/+19Why are there school?
- TrashyMoped, on 02/23/2009, -7/+21No one ever said anything about KDE being slower, thats not even the point.
- robotfriendly, on 02/23/2009, -3/+17FTFA:
The Start button search facility introduced with Windows Vista has been given a spruce up that makes it a genuine timesaver. Instead of merely hunting for exact filename and application matches, the search is more intelligent.
Search for "disk" for example, and not only do applications such as Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter appear as they would in Vista, but also Control Panel tasks such as "Create and format hard disk partitions" and "Create a password reset disk".
It isn't a straight keyword search, either - "Use tools to improve performance" comes up when you search for "processor", for instance. It's a clever way of making hard-to-find Control Panel features more accessible. - Kamujin, on 02/23/2009, -2/+16ME and XP were not even from the same OS family.
Vista and Window 7 are like a minor version apart!
BTW, hardware support is achieved by vendors writing drivers. Microsoft gave vendors over 2 years to get their drivers ready. You're blaming the wrong company. - lucidapathy, on 02/23/2009, -1/+14Buried because the need to comment on why you buried.
Yes I realize the irony. Here. - minorthreat, on 02/23/2009, -0/+13that's crazy.. I couldn't imagine two people using different types of hardware and different types of applications..
- insertAliasHere, on 02/23/2009, -4/+16Just in case you don't know...you won't be able to do an actual upgrade, it will require a clean install. You can only do the direct upgrade from Vista.
- wolfing, on 02/23/2009, -1/+12Vista SP2 alternate dimension
- KibibyteBrain, on 02/23/2009, -0/+10How is that even in the form of a feature?
- TheUngod, on 02/23/2009, -0/+10Well before the iPhone 2G.
- STKD, on 02/23/2009, -0/+9"10 bucks says business people who use this are going to have the printed recovery key pinned up on their cubicle wall."
...which will be of no use whatsoever to the person who, say, finds the drive lying in the street, on the bus seat, in the shops... - hawksfan03, on 02/23/2009, -3/+12setset i think you meant to say: kde 4.2 fap fap fap
- Kazbaeden, on 02/23/2009, -0/+9According to this story, looks like 10.6 is adding the "restore" feature that's been in the recycle been since... god, Windows 95? I don't even remember.
http://digg.com/apple/Snow_Leopard_screenshots_sho ... - Memnochxx, on 02/23/2009, -3/+12Then what does that make the actual Vista SP2?
- goffy59, on 02/23/2009, -2/+11Probably using the word code as some slang word or something.
- derbloodlust, on 02/23/2009, -1/+10Hey now, I completely understand the surprise, but there are quite a few of us Mac users who love Windows and Linux, and hates the stereotypical fanboys as much as the next. I personally grew up with DOS and Windows, then later found Linux and eventually got my first Mac. I don't have a bias, as most of my computers have at least 2 out of 3... my main desktop triple boots all 3. I just love computers. Wish I could say the same for everyone, but we have to have something we can ALL argue about, right?
Anyways, I can't wait for Windows 7. - Solkre, on 02/23/2009, -0/+8Forgot to mention I'm in the IT Department.
- herrshuster, on 02/23/2009, -1/+9*ante
sorry - devnullDood, on 02/23/2009, -3/+11Sounds like a great OS. It will have to be great if im going to switch back to Windows. I've been using LinuxMint after reading about it on Digg and it has been an awsome experience. I've had a lot of people at work switch over and some wont go back to Windows simply because of the cost.
- KibibyteBrain, on 02/23/2009, -2/+10Wouldn't that be a feature to be had by Office, and not Windows?
- inactive, on 02/23/2009, -3/+10I dug you up, I just have to add the following to the discussion.
lightly-clearing-throat...ahem.
We gave you too much money in your severance,
let's have it back.
/ahem
Microsoft is a great company, and so giving. /sarcasm
That said, I do think Bill and Melinda do give very much to the world, and I don't think Steve Jobs gives a ***** about anyone but himself, and is a greedy bastard. - robotfriendly, on 02/23/2009, -2/+9Thank you, your approval makes me feel warm and fuzzy. WOW!
- inactive, on 02/23/2009, -4/+11Thats crazy. I got it as soon as it leaked. I'm still using it, now I'm on Build 7022. I've never had a single BSOD. The only freeze I ever got never happened again after a Windows Update found an update for my GPU driver. Maybe you just needed a driver update?
- herrshuster, on 02/23/2009, -0/+7Wrong. Look again.
- cquinnd, on 02/23/2009, -2/+9Did you report any of the bugs you encountered?
- Jektal, on 02/23/2009, -0/+6FTFA: "Windows 7 will become the first major Windows release that any of us can remember that doesn't require better hardware than its predecessor."
So, nobody at "pcauthority.com" remembers Win98? Some authority. - wolfing, on 02/23/2009, -3/+9If I switched my office PC to anything, I'd be fired in a nanosecond lol
- BabyWookie, on 02/23/2009, -1/+7"29. Colour calibration tool "
Wait, they have that? I've been using the beta and wasn't aware of this tool. In fact, I installed a third-party tool for this. Can some one confirm that this is in the beta? - VyRuZ, on 02/23/2009, -2/+8Reading subheads not reading a article makes.
