- jinky32, on 11/10/2008, -4/+33MS should just improve their search - end of discussion. It's rubbish
- pirlok, on 11/10/2008, -4/+18first yahoo, now sun.. microsoft really needs help..
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -5/+16maybe Microsoft should ask the government for some bailout money
- maximilen, on 11/11/2008, -1/+10Microsoft search needs relevance help, not marketing help.
- divinediva, on 11/10/2008, -4/+9Be more creative please. Mr. Microsoft
- natenovs, on 11/11/2008, -1/+6so - you're absolutely right, but get immediately dugg down - i guess google really is loved in this echo chamber
- KibibyteBrain, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5Making a good search engine requires lots of data to work with, and you get useful data through use. This is one of the reasons is so had to catch up, and you can't improve your experience independently of use. The result a huge advantages for Google in this battle: the very fact they have the most and best data for their product to learn from and for their engineering to tweak their algorithms with.
- KibibyteBrain, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4Reality: Fix Vista = Develop Windows 7. I still don't think its a very good situation for the customer, being told to buy a new OS because they missed the ball the first time. But if Apple doesn't think they stand real competition outside of marketing in the future from Redmond, they might be just as delusional as MS was about them and their product potential about 5 years ago, because as far as I can tell, Windows 7 is only salvo one of MS's grand scheme.
- MothBoy, on 11/11/2008, -4/+7I believe they just did.
- quikboy, on 11/15/2008, -0/+3I like Live Search too. There are some results I don't like, but for the most part, it's great! I love the Instant Answers, and like the interface, and their photo and video search are way superior.
- matt0509, on 11/11/2008, -5/+8Couldn't hurt them to get integration into a browser other than IE... but then again, IE users tend not to be too bright... they're probably the best target community for MS Live Search.
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -0/+31.99 shipping plz.
- simpleboy, on 11/11/2008, -3/+6No matter what they do, its not going to improve their market share? Why should I want to use Live search when Google is there? Live Search = random result
- stutimandal, on 11/11/2008, -10/+13It is cool to bash Microsoft, but I am using live.com since the past few days since Google search is not saving my preferences for "not providing query suggestions." I was annoyed by query suggestions by Google on four different computers every third day.
* There hasn't been any great difference in the quality of search results, since most of the stuff is found at Wikipedia anyhow.
* You don't get to see SEO optimized junk targeted to appear at the top in Google.
* The live.com main page has a new image each day with some interesting search suggestions. It is a good way to boost knowledge about unexpected topics.
* Live.com/cashback is a good way to get some rebate in tough economic times.
* Live.com's image search interface is better than google. It also allows extra filtering options (like aspect ratio).
How I wish live.com also maintained an archive of their front page interesting stuff which changes every day.
Disclaimer: I don't work for Microsoft. - natenovs, on 11/11/2008, -1/+4the results are comparable to google. but that's the problem - they are only 'as good as' (at best). there really is no compelling reason to use it, unless maybe your directed there from a toolbar you really like?
- jtpinhead, on 11/11/2008, -2/+5the image search is much more usable

So here is what people will do. Use Google for normal search stuff... because frankly it's better. When they find the item they want to buy... they will go over to MS search to simply get the discount. Once that's complete... back to Google. I don't think MS is going to get many users to stick to MS Search... it's just a matter of quality and Google has much more to offer in the dept. - miggyb, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Agreed. The title should have said "Sun Microsystems" to avoid a misunderstanding.
- jamshid, on 11/11/2008, -3/+5Humans should be so lucky.
But yeah that's TOTALLY awesome, you mean I can have Internet Explorer, Live Search, and Java all in one convenient package? Where's AOL? And would you mind mailing it to me on a cd? - anonatron, on 11/11/2008, -2/+4From the title I expected some kind of green initiative. I guess Sun is doing anything to pay the rent these days.
- gcnaddict, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Didn't the New York Times have a deal with Digg not to push the registration page on diggers?
Buried for not being able to rtfa because of an NYTimes Reg Page. BugMeNot is too much effort just to read a digg article :( - stutimandal, on 11/11/2008, -1/+3Who cares what people at Digg love. My response is based on actual usage of live's search. I can always use Google 24/7/365 and claim that it is better than Live. Even those opposing me know how logical it is.
- AlanFang, on 11/11/2008, -3/+5Oh noes Microsoft toolbar is coming, I can see Google quaking in their money laden boots.
- tnoy, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2You're trying too hard.
- mudfly, on 11/11/2008, -2/+4Bundling tool bars is so 2004. Someone needs to tell Microsoft that spyware is not a good business strategy.
- tyronenguyen, on 11/11/2008, -3/+5MS asking Sun for marketing help? Might as well throw in the towel.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -5/+6A little known fact: Sun Microsystems is actually Skynet.
- mossiwo, on 11/10/2008, -5/+6What else could happen? same old, same old...

http://highqualitymoviedownloads.info - christopherhib, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1Microsoft has SERIOUSLY fallen behind in the internet marketing race, this is how desperate they've got then? I wasn't aware that Sun had such a presence though, I guess it's their Javascript
- Dailydose4me, on 11/11/2008, -3/+4Microsoft might need some PR consultation now.
- Ossuary, on 11/11/2008, -2/+3Sun should not sell out. Just as OpenOffice hits the full 3.0, this happens. Sun really needs to push OO more and not curtail it like this.
- Vonauda, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2I would like to say the XBOX and ZUNE are their first salvo. A sort of deflection weapon to lean on if they need the time to rework the rest of their business model.
What may I ask in your opinion is their grand scheme? - m00n1, on 11/11/2008, -2/+2Grab your ice skates and let's go to hell!
