- craigp, on 06/17/2008, -7/+16Ergh. Would anyone really want a home that's run by Microsoft software? Hardly a 'dream home'.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+10Always have a good firewall around your house
- webcrumb, on 06/17/2008, -0/+7Your cupboard space is full. Would you like to start a cupboard cleanup now? There are packets of soup that haven't been used for more than six months.
The toilet is currently in use by another process. Would you like to wait for it to continue or force it to quit? - baronfel, on 06/17/2008, -1/+7Man, feel the microsoft hate in here. It's sweltering. I for one applaud the idea of the Dream Home. Just shows the extent of technology we have available to us today. And sure, you could replace some of the components of the Home with your favorite OSS or Apple equivalent, but who had the idea to put it all together in a configuration first place?
To be honest, Georgia Tech has a similar setup on their campus. It's a cool piece of showmanship, with occupant location tracking, notifications of damage/interruptions in the house, and plenty of little tweaks like measuring out daily medications for the grandparents, or dynamically adjusting ambient temperature based on certain phrases it overhears you say. One of the cooler features was a framed picture of grandma that changed to reflect her condition. If she hurt herself, it changed to a picture of her face in a sad pose, and that change was propagated to the little widget you had on your work computer.
You people have a good time bashing this, but I want to see where all these years of technological advancement have gone! Now if I could only get that jetpack.....or that Minority Report interface.....

- NotReally91, on 06/17/2008, -0/+4They had one of these at Disney World a couple of years ago. I'm still not seeing the hydrogen powered Hummer that they claimed would be on the streets "soon".
- diggit08, on 06/17/2008, -3/+6"It's real. This isn't science fiction, and it's not pure extrapolation," Cluts said last week. "You can integrate much of what you see here now."
So really what you get is a huge advertisement for surface computers, and other Microsoft products. - vidalsasoon, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3wipe your ass with the blue screen.
- trejrco, on 06/17/2008, -1/+4Lame Microsoft bashing aside, I am glad we still have people trying to use technology to actually make our lives better / more enjoyable.
/TJ ... they just need to support / embed IPv6 as well ... - joshualamgroup, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2grab a mac and get the Kernel Panic screen "The Gray Screen of Panic and Disarray"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:MacOSX_kernel_p ...
or the cute sad mac icon (LOL)

Just imagine the quantity of porn that is going to spring up from these mirrors getting hacked.
Hacking into a system + recording some chick naked = nerd FAP FAP FAP! - telepheedian, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Hate to say this, but the current iteration of Zune is looking like a good contender, you just conveniently forgot to mention it. Also, Vista is rather similar to leopard, they both need some slimming, XP SP2 and Tiger will still be the workhorses on both platforms, although the current generation is getting better every time. Finally, the 3 RRoD is mostly fixed in current iterations of the Xbox 360, and the iPhone, although it has a shiny UI, is just now getting the 3rd party app support they needed from day 1 to truly call it a smartphone.
- sevenalive, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1That place seems really disturbing, tracking, grandma's hurt, disruptions in the house?
- MalsAU, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1I think this sounds pretty cool. Not necessarily practical but definitely something creative that could spark the imagination of visitors. And isn't the entire point of Disneyland to have fun and lose yourself in the possibilities?
I suppose that's just me being silly and sheeplike. - mrsteve007, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1I agree, the technology is very cool in applications like this, and Microsoft has been leading the way in this for a long time. Google the tech in Bill Gate's own home. It uses all the same technology that you're talking about in the Georgia tech home, and has been over about a decade.
- PettyKrooks, on 06/17/2008, -2/+2I'm not entirely sure whose dream home this is supposed to be. Is it Microsofts?
i think I'll skip it thanks. i like my coffee table to be just a table that you can put coffee on. - schneb, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1Bloo-dink "Are you sure you want to unlock the front door?"
I think, in all technical fairness, Disneyland should bring back the Carousel of Progress to Tomorrowland and let Apple design the visionary finale. - diggit08, on 06/17/2008, -5/+4Get this. Your on the toilet, reaching for the TP. You press the automatic dispenser button and wait for the damn thing to process your request, when suddenly out of nowhere you get the blue screen of death. What do you do?
- Rauby, on 06/17/2008, -3/+1Never seen Kernel panic screen on Mac in my life. ;)
- racco, on 06/17/2008, -9/+7imagine a home run on Microsoft software!!
being told by your coffee table that "you have preformed an illegal operation" when you try and put a drink down that it doesn't have drivers for
these homes can stay in the future for all I care - hexydes, on 06/17/2008, -5/+2Is anyone else sick of hearing about Microsoft Surface? I'm sorry, but it's a table with a TV in it that you can touch. Ok, neat idea, but it's not exactly pushing the envelope of technology.
Microsoft: you make billions and billions of dollars per year, and the pinnacle of those resources are:
1. Windows Vista (finally caught up with OS X 10.0)
2. Microsoft Office 2007 (the only decent product here)
3. XBox 360 (red ring of death FTW)
4. Windows Mobile (absolutely blown away by iPhone UI)
I'm sorry, but in designing a future home, Microsoft shouldn't have any say, because they are not innovators; they simply react to what others have done that has become popular in the market.
