- BubblesTheChimp, on 10/20/2009, -10/+91I like Windows 7.
- Jook, on 10/20/2009, -5/+66I have been using 7 for about 6 months now, through it's various iterations, with the RTM arriving via MSDN about 2 months ago.
Fast, clean, efficient and mostly intuitive. It is what Vista should have been. - pstroll, on 10/20/2009, -2/+483.0 :-|

XP :-)
Vista :-( - AndrewDB, on 10/20/2009, -8/+52I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate for about 2 weeks because the college I goto got it early (Hooray for Microsoft partnerships) ..
The upgrade process from Vista was absolutely flawless (just plug it in and you have two options; wipe the hard drive and start a new or upgrade and transfer all your exiting programs over already.. which I did. Worked great.).. after waiting a bit, 7 installed and my computers never been more stable. The Virtual XP mode is beautiful for running your applications in a virtual environment.. I just wish it had support for Open GL and Direct X among other things.
7 is everything an operating system should be, I can't wait to see what the service packs add..
I'm -very- happy I upgraded. - AdmiralAcbar, on 10/20/2009, -12/+52So let me guess, you're going to stick with XP despite all of the security holes and huge performance issues because of the hundreds of updates applied over the years, right?
Never mind that it found all of my drivers upon install, and basically does everything on its own (try doing that with XP).
Also, the sum of the little things in 7 (snapping windows, for example) are completely worth it. - viv4l4b4m03, on 10/21/2009, -3/+367 :DGC
- AmericansFirst, on 10/20/2009, -3/+33I like turtles.
- wTheOnew, on 10/20/2009, -5/+30I agree with all but Vista. You can't put Vista on the same level as ME, I mean honestly ME was barely usable and Vista after SP1 is pretty nice.
- compacho, on 10/20/2009, -4/+227 :-D
- Mayday408, on 10/20/2009, -9/+27Windows 7 is amazing. Did not like vista at all, but I love 7 more then XP now. Been using it for 2 months, the retail version.
Installs ALL of your drivers when you're installing windows, so as soon it's done you're good to go. UAC Settings are easy to get to and disable, and windows update is much smoother.
On 95% of my new installs, drivers or uninstalling whatever I never have to reboot now.
Windows 7 is also amazing if you have a big widescreen monitor. Docking windows is cake and very efficient. You find something new in 7 all the time, and all the little changes are for the better.
If you hated vista, or even if you liked it, Windows 7 is still a MUST try for all PC enthusiasts as it definitely is going to take the crown away from XP. Pirated copies are already fully cracked and master keyed. Never have to type in a CD-key, or worry about deactivation if you find the right torrent ;) - jwolcott, on 10/20/2009, -3/+21I have come from the future to kill William Henry Gates III before he launches Windows 3.0 and dooms the world into using his faulty line of Operating Systems for eternity!

98SE :-) - macmcraeart, on 10/20/2009, -12/+26that windows is officially better than osx?
- HamSandwich, on 10/21/2009, -1/+15Windows 7 has huge nipples!

- hydrodev, on 10/20/2009, -1/+14Just for eveyones knowledge:
If you have a .edu email address, you can order Win 7 Pro for $29.99. 1-877-696-7786. you will be on hold FOREVER. But what i say is true.
Try not to abuse it. - twistedrapier, on 10/21/2009, -2/+13Don't you mean Apple marketing? After all, wasn't his reaction the whole point of that "Mojave" experiment?
- AndrewDB, on 10/20/2009, -5/+15Granted I'm using Rainmeter for the Calendar, Day, Date, Time and black bar at the bottom, and a Winamp Skin, but..

Does the desktop look cluttered to you still? - DjOverEZ, on 10/21/2009, -5/+15That reply was so poorly written, I couldn't figure out what you were trying to say.
- yournamehere, on 10/21/2009, -4/+13like what?
- Jook, on 10/20/2009, -2/+11And I choose to hide my desktop icons and use a link to reach them...still look cluttered?

Methinks you are just saying something to say something. - chriswastaken, on 10/27/2009, -0/+9I too am a fan of turtles.
- apologeticus, on 10/21/2009, -1/+9The auto-correct spelling feature alone will be worth the $29.
- joelcass, on 10/20/2009, -1/+9Bloated article, it needs an update to reduce it to one short page.
- MScrip, on 10/21/2009, -0/+7My son is also named Bort.
Oops... - kashk5, on 10/21/2009, -2/+9Perhaps in the hopes that you will clarify what you mean
- hydrodev, on 10/20/2009, -1/+8if you have an .edu email account, call them and preorder it and tell them you have an .edu email, and you will get a 90% discount.
- MScrip, on 10/21/2009, -0/+6I'm glad all tech-blog readers know all about Windows 7 already... now Microsoft can finally start selling their new OS to millions of consumers on October 22...
- twiztidsinz, on 10/20/2009, -0/+6You should pin some of the more frequently open apps to the taskbar since they're on there anyway like Firefox, Winamp and KVirc, maybe Digsby too.
Toss the VLC, Paint.NET, Last.FM, Vent, since they're on the main start menu.
Not sure what you got at the bottom, but it's kind of a waste having the bar just for Date/Time.
I personally just have Computer and Recycle Bin on my desktop..
Trillian and Firefox pinned and everything else in tabbed docks (ObjectDock). - firesights, on 10/20/2009, -0/+6http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/whisperings ...
Does my desktop look cluttered? Granted it's Vista, but it's easily achievable with W7 too.
All the common programs I use are in my start-menu.
All my games are in Steam.
Anything else is 3 clicks away. - AndrewDB, on 10/21/2009, -1/+7Did you not read what I said?
Virtual XP (it's a Virtual Machine.. totally 100% emulated..) is the only thing that doesn't support Open GL and Direct X.
7 supports upto Direct X 11.
I'm running Direct X 11 right now. - ocularsinister, on 10/21/2009, -0/+5To all those people saying they love Windows 7... I'm sure its great and everything, but what does it do that XP doesn't? I mean, stuff that I actually *need* rather than stuff that was added for the sake of it. XPSP3 is a damn fine OS, and I just don't see anything in 7 to make me want to upgrade.

- mason092, on 10/21/2009, -1/+5Rentware? I think you just made that up.
- AndrewDB, on 10/20/2009, -0/+4That's a good idea. Thanks :)
- Mockylock, on 10/20/2009, -2/+6I've been using it in an enterprise environment with no issues at all. Even with GPO security settings made for XP and scripts running in an XP environment, it runs really well. Vista wouldn't even boot up to the desktop after it was added to the domain, so they must have done something right.
- inactive, on 10/20/2009, -0/+4People with wide-screen monitors might also like to try putting the task bar on the left or right sides of the monitor, now that it takes up less space. How many windowed applications do you have that efficiently use all that extra width anyway?
- Wilddigi, on 10/21/2009, -2/+6Expensive
- hydrodev, on 10/21/2009, -1/+5For $36 bucks with shipping?
Microsoft deserves that at least, regardless of what you think of them. - Moralogic, on 10/21/2009, -2/+6It is the *****.
