- Darkaged, on 01/13/2009, -43/+654A beta not working perfectly?
*****'REALLGONNADIEAAAHHHHWINDOZESUCKS - MarcieCastillo, on 01/13/2009, -7/+324I'm sure vista hats you too
- liam12360, on 01/13/2009, -33/+345Its a beta, whatcha going to do. I personally have tested 7 and I think its a pretty damn rock-solid beta. This is coming from a guy who hats Vista's guts.
- AboveandBeyond, on 01/13/2009, -19/+326If BSOD had an apple logo, mac fanboys would have paid for it as a program.
- ohplease, on 01/13/2009, -10/+195
The guys at Gizmodo are clueless to how Windows works, or what win32k.sys does. Use Google you idiots.
win32k.sys crashes can be caused by memory or pagefile issues, along with a host of other causes that aren't related to MS's code.
If they did a crash dump analysis (which anyone can do using MS's debugger) and then found out the actual cause, then we'd have interesting article.
As it stands we have a bunch of clueless wannabe techies trying to look 3dgy. - TheThirdWheel, on 01/13/2009, -12/+169Jesus, EVERY TIME a new windows comes out everyone acts completely surprised that it
"still" has BSOD. GTFO already. - pradaaddict, on 01/13/2009, -13/+151Please remember that Windows 7 is still in beta.
- 3242130193, on 01/13/2009, -17/+125And that's nothing compared to what it means for Linux fanboys. This could be better than consolation for dying without ever getting laid!
- Acirn, on 01/13/2009, -0/+106Yes, but then it would be a red hat.
- heavystone, on 01/13/2009, -5/+107Do people really believe that BSOD is going to go away? It's the "no way out" screen and giving info on what when wrong. Would you prefer no information at all???
- NeoN068, on 01/13/2009, -6/+107change the color!
http://www.petri.co.il/change_bsod_color.htm - vickers500, on 01/13/2009, -1/+96FREE HAT, FREE HAT!
- heyuguuuuys, on 01/13/2009, -6/+98Getting laid for real?
Oh, wait... - kangy3213, on 01/13/2009, -8/+98wait, a piece of software still in beta having a couple bugs? what is this witchcraft
- scottreed, on 01/13/2009, -7/+94Atleast it's not pink or some ***** like that
- FredFredrickson, on 01/13/2009, -8/+94The BSOD is like a bad joke these days. I'm an avid PC user and PC gamer, and I get a BSOD about once a year. Why? Because I don't visit porn sites with Internet Explorer, I use FireFox, and I don't download programs like OMGBritneySpearsNude!!!!.exe.
In fact, the only times I have had a BSOD were the direct result of a shoddily programmed game. Other than that, I've not seen the BSOD since the early days of XP.
Fuel for the fire: we use Macs at work, and my Mac Pro gives me the black veil of death more often than my XP box at home. - blackcloud333, on 01/13/2009, -4/+88I'll buy anything if it's shiny and made by Apple.
- artfuldodga, on 01/13/2009, -8/+91MS fanboys, Apple fanboys are everywhere, but its sites like gizmodo that tend to fan the flames, ah, such the reputable site...
that said, the BSOD is fine, it tells you what happened, gives you the filenames and a little information, hopefully you can remember what you've were done 5 seconds before hand or you shouldn't touch a PC
use backup/imaging software and save yourself much hassle if you plan on screwing around with your system - Tchaikovsky08, on 01/13/2009, -1/+74Hopefully not a nice hat or it'll become a bloody mess
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -10/+81User error
I haven't had a BSOD since windows 98 - FredFredrickson, on 01/13/2009, -5/+74That's what happens when your Mac crashes and you get the black veil of death. No information at all. Just a bunch of ***** about how you might have lost data.
Take a look: http://paulofierro.com/images/osx_crash.jpg - Beakerz, on 01/13/2009, -0/+62The 0x8E stop code points directly to RAM issues - bad RAM, bad OC w/e... this has nothing to do with Windows 7.
- liam12360, on 01/13/2009, -6/+47cut microsoft some slack here, its a beta, this is what its meant for! Getting errors like that OUT! Jesus Christ, it hasn't even moved from build 7000 and already the mac fanboys are crusifying it. XP was gold and still owns >70% market, who says microsoft cant do it again. I say exactly the same thing to pirate2b above.
- pcfirestorm, on 01/13/2009, -6/+47Who knows, it's not like this is beta software or .... wait OH YEA it is a beta OS. subit your crash report to MS and let them figure out what went wrong.
- cquinnd, on 01/13/2009, -9/+47Right...
I am not going to leave you with "A long trail of why Windoze is STILL better..." because I am looking forward to the future development of alternatives.
That said, I am also looking forward to Windows 7 as MS does appear to be improving their OS platform in useful ways, and responding to competition is likely to benefit all of us as end users.
Market share has been dropping for some time now, but the "market" itself has changed and gotten larger. So even MS has seen their business grow overall.
Vista is no more of a problem than XP was at this point in the life of the OS.
It has gained a bad reputation partly due to delays in release, partly due to changes and annoyances in the new interface, partly due to problems getting drivers and application compatibility up to speed, and partly due to some additional unfair bashing and misinformation spread by people under the mistaken impression that they could help some other causes by spreading FUD.
Zune is (was) an attempt to make a good MP3 and multimedia player, which appears to have failed because: (imho)
(1) MS kept it seperate from their plays4sure initiative, which kept it from gaining widespread industry support
(2) MS failed to gain widespread acceptance for thier own music distribution model
(3) The Zune itself did not seem to gain much interest with the hobbyists who help a good deal with promotion and utility for such a platform.
(4) failure to closely tie Zune closer with XBox Live
From what I understand, the Zune itself is a pretty good device. - omgwhataguy, on 01/13/2009, -3/+41I'm glad they stuck with a blue background.
- a1cd, on 01/13/2009, -7/+44So how many people RTA? They are not complaining about the BSOD, they are asking Microsoft to make it more user friendly
- georgemason01, on 01/13/2009, -14/+48RTFA. He's not complaining about a BSOD in a beta, just pointing out that the BSOD itself hasn't changed in Windows 7 and how he thinks it should be altered.
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+33Guys I keep stressing CraigsList is the key. Jeez.
*Scratches strange itch on balls again. - FredFredrickson, on 01/13/2009, -1/+34You could have shortened that sentence above to "The guys at Gizmodo are clueless" and it would have been as equally accurate.
- TVarmy, on 01/13/2009, -5/+37Porn for Mac fanboys would be a shuttle plugged into a regular iPod via USB adapter, right?
- BoneheadFarker, on 01/13/2009, -1/+32Want to really mess with someone's head?
MessageBackColor=C
MessageTextColor=9 - stonedgeek, on 01/13/2009, -9/+40Wow that's amazing. Like I've never seen a Mac or Linux box crash before (that's sarcasm fanboys).
You want to know how many times I've seen BSoD on my Vista PC in the last year since I installed it? None. - inactive, on 01/13/2009, -2/+31Sure, if it was plugged in repeatedly and rhythmically.
- serif69, on 01/13/2009, -4/+32Does that mean the BSOD will look better in the final release?
- spyd3rweb, on 01/13/2009, -5/+32They should be like Google and leave all their products in Beta forever. Then whenever theres a problem you can say "oh well its just a beta."
- matthekc, on 01/14/2009, -0/+26I take it you skipped Millennium Edition then...
- damack, on 01/13/2009, -15/+41Not had a blue screen yet but for some reason every now and then Windows 7 just freezes out of the blue can't figure out what is causing it since it does it so randomly
- mazurkfsflip8, on 01/13/2009, -5/+31this is gizmodo trying to get hits...
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -2/+28fap fap fap
- Kriztov, on 01/14/2009, -2/+28No, it would be included in OSX and everybody would love it or call it innovation.
- ohplease, on 01/14/2009, -3/+29
Because you would need the debugger to not have crashed with the OS, which is pretty much impossible. Also, you'd need to have the symbol files in place for all your hardware in order to get an accurate picture, but you knew that already right? You're not just talking out your ass are you? - TVarmy, on 01/13/2009, -9/+35How about human readable error messages? If it's still going to crash (inevitable for any OS), at least offer a hint. Say, perhaps, "This crash was likely initiated by a problem caused by this DLL file, which is asscociated with this program. Please look for support at the software's website or other support resource." A short error code should also be provided, with a clear message saying to write down the error code and show it to someone at Microsoft's support system or to a technician.
- Curvearth, on 01/13/2009, -1/+25Seriously. The BSOD can never go away, people. Even if the software was perfect, what's the machine supposed to do if you put in faulty memory or somesuch? It'll BSOD. There always has to be a worst mode of failure.
- chanop, on 01/13/2009, -4/+28^ Why people think mac fanboys are douchebags
- sinalmighty, on 01/13/2009, -3/+27i love the mac ads saying they dont have the BSOD, yeah they just turn themselves off... SOOOO much better w/o a clue to why! just because most people cant read the BSOD doesnt mean its not helpful to people who hell at least are willing to look the crap up
- mk3k, on 01/13/2009, -1/+24Magenta Screen of Death
- recruz, on 01/14/2009, -1/+24but how are babbys formed?
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -3/+24Giz has probably had this for the last month throwing everything at it.
And its in Beta still, nice Giz, you found a way ( soon to be patched by MS). -
