- the0arctic, on 10/29/2007, -39/+653Despite my hatred of Microsoft, I have to say that they just made Steve Jobs look like a total ass. My hat is off, if only momentarily.
- ridestp, on 11/13/2007, -24/+505AGREED! It isn't often you get a company offering a firmware upgrade that gives the same functionality to a 1st gen product as the new 2nd gen one. Even though I have the Zune 30, the Zune 80 would be nice for more movies because of an even larger screen and h.264 support. Microsoft listened to complaints on the 1st gen and did a very good job with the new Zunes!
- HiCaP, on 10/16/2007, -18/+274So, 1st gens get the Wi-Fi syncing also, very kool MS.
- shooby, on 10/15/2007, -37/+218With all these announcements about a DRM-free store, the new firmware updates for all Zunes, etc, the Zune is actually looking like a great product now. The 3-play restriction seems reasonable. I'm glad they removed the 3-day policy.
The Zune seems much more enticing now that Apple seems to not give a ***** about their customers.
I'm just bitter that Apple bricked my iPhone. Great way to treat your customers ass. - inactive, on 10/22/2007, -31/+191As an apple customer, I'm ashamed at Jobs.
- trogdoor, on 10/15/2007, -17/+176Steve Jobs is an ass, ask anyone who has met him in person. Woz is awesome though :)
- xmetal2001, on 10/15/2007, -12/+154Can't we just admit that Microsoft is doing SOMETHING right? Obviously it isn't charity. I don't know of any corporation(including Apple) that makes a business out of charity. The idea is treat your customers right and they give you more money. Is Microsoft not able to try that without seeming desperate?
- dext3r, on 10/16/2007, -7/+119When will we be able to use these WiFi enabled devices for internet radio!?
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/15/2007, -21/+126Maybe it's too early to be saying this, but i think if Microsoft keeps up with the good ideas, they might be on the road to success.
- pintomp3, on 10/15/2007, -1/+98that's the beauty of competition. it makes companies try harder. microsoft is trying, which benefits the consumer.
- KloroFormd, on 10/15/2007, -6/+101I concur whole-heartedly to your statement.
It's good to see Microsoft using their powers for good and not forcing users to buy identical hardware for a software upgrade. - clevercasey, on 10/15/2007, -15/+106This is awesome of Microsoft and a good way to please their customers. I recently got a Zune and loved it so much I sold my iPod. Good to know my investment is going to continue to pay off.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -11/+93Waiting for Mac and Linux support!
- briansearles, on 10/15/2007, -11/+79Finally, wireless syncing... the Zune aint so bad after all.
I always figured people were a tad too harsh on it for being yet another blatant "me too" product in the same vein as WebTV and Xbox. - gnarkill726, on 10/16/2007, -16/+82Do you mean: "Apple, are you paying attention?"
cocksmoker. - miyamotofreak, on 10/15/2007, -2/+62Does it have a built in clock yet?
- SystmBetatester, on 10/16/2007, -21/+81seeing some better pictures of zune 2, im getting a bit more excited for it. it will be cool to just wake up one morning and have my zune synced already to go.
- DelMonte, on 10/13/2007, -31/+86"I'm just bitter that Apple bricked my iPhone."
You may blame Apple for not releasing an update that was compatible with your unlocking hack, but if you applied the update despite the big warning iTunes showed you about this potential problem, it's your own problem dude. - LycoLoco, on 10/13/2007, -7/+53How is this desperation? People aren't going to go out and buy the old Zunes just because they have the new features. New adopters are going to get the new Zunes. And if they wanted to be desperate, they'd play the same game that Apple does and make the owners of the old Zune want to buy the new one because of the new features, not what they currently have done. Your argument makes no sense whatsoever.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+46Bigger screen, thinner device, more storage. I believe most first-time buyers for the Zune will opt for the 80GB model too.
- wibambau, on 10/10/2007, -6/+49VERY cool that we don't have to convert all the videos to WMV anymore. Thanks for this! Creative Zen Vision M/W please see your way off my wish list. (secretly still want you though.)
Anyone looking for a squircle-free Zune 2, discounted Zune's are your ticket. - Rikkochet, on 10/10/2007, -7/+49Nono, "Apple attention paying you are".
Which probably means something nice about Apple in the language of Retard. - omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+46Which is more than fair. Zune 2 is meant to compete with the iPod Classic, not the iPhone or Touch.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+45If Microsoft continues this kind of behavior (and that may be a big "if"), a simple firmware update would add the features.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -28/+64Apple did release a free update to the 5G iPods to add most of the features of the 5.5G iPods (640x480 TV out, games and other features).
The Apple TV got a free update that added Youtube support and other features. The iPhone just got a free update that enables TV-Out and adds the iTunes Wifi store amongst other thing, and both the iPhone and the iPod touch are scheduled to have many other free feature updates. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -22/+57You "hate" a corporation? What a waste of time.
- pintomp3, on 10/13/2007, -3/+37that argument makes absolutely no sense. they could have not upgraded the old ones and forced people to buy the new one for the new features. it's kinda nice to not have to be on the upgrade treadmill in order to get the new features.
- Serphyas, on 10/18/2007, -15/+49'Tard.
- mmaf, on 10/10/2007, -13/+45I bought a Zune on Woot for 130 bucks a couple of weeks ago, and i have to admit, the interface on it is pretty slick. Id even go as far as saying that the GUI is much better and easier to navigate than my 5g iPod.
I can only imagine that when i upgrade to the newest firmware, its gonna completely blow the iPod interface away. - mmaf, on 10/15/2007, -4/+36Wasnt Microsoft still updating windows 98 until just a couple years ago? I mean seriously you can hate Microsoft for many things, but theyve always been incredibly good about hooking up customers still using old software/hardware.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+40Someone is a butthurt apple fanboy.
- omarciddo, on 10/15/2007, -0/+31Not exactly what you'd call a critical feature, but it would definitely be useful.
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31"Microsoft is doing this in attempt to look better than Apple"
Whereas when Apple does something pro consumer it's because they just want to make the world a better place, right? They are both Corporations, they both are driven primarily by money. Does that mean that we shouldn't support them when they actually do something we like? No, because if we don't recognize them for doing something right, what incentive do they have to ever do it again? - DelMonte, on 10/13/2007, -8/+37With this particular update, iTunes displayed a special message warning you about the specific possibility of bricking you iPhone if you applied an unlocking hack.
It was a clear message, no cryptic lawyers wording, and it was a separate message from the standard EULA. - ShrimpCrackers, on 10/13/2007, -1/+29If Microsoft can give you free Service Pack updates that do add features (like they did for Windows 2000 and XP) then yes, I can foresee Microsoft upgrading the old Zune 1's as part of customer satisfaction and support. Its the least they can do.
- ChildeRoland420, on 10/13/2007, -2/+30They could do something simple, like firmware updates. I hate how my 5G doesn't have a search function whereas the 5.5g does.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30He gives great helmet as well.
- DukeMojo, on 10/24/2007, -6/+31Thank god. I was sweating hoping I wasn't going to have to sell away my first gen to get the new goodies. Muchos gracias, Microsoft.
- danasghar, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26he's right, because my 50 year old mom was at the mall with me the other day, walked into the apple store and mentioned she would love a nano for xmas...but she turned to me very seriously and said make sure you check with engadget.com and gizmodo.com first.
- lobasuu, on 11/12/2007, -8/+32Having an opinion about something is a waste of time? It`s not like the0arctic spends 10 hours a day thinking about how much he hates MS.
- wafu, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28my iphone should have wireless sync, come on stevie.
- nexus, on 10/13/2007, -7/+30Well Steve Jobs has already confirmed he doesn't give a ***** about the iPod owners when he said you should buy a new iPod every year. Microsoft has established they now love even existing users bringing them into the (newer) social.
- rattsabre, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25"Attention: you are paying apple"?
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -6/+28Actually, it was a success. You see, Microsoft set a target of selling x million by y (IIRC it was 1 million by some month this year) and they actually SURPASSED their expectations.
So, in the real world it was a success but on the internets where morons like you think Microsoft expected it to sell 400 million and overtake the iPod it was indeed, a failure.
Your straw man 'failure' argument is silly, go home. - kronix2, on 10/13/2007, -4/+25They're doing this to capitalise on Apple's ***** regarding the iPhone (bricking unlocked iPhones, imaginary $100 "rebate") and the iPod Touch (crippling the phone feature-wise).
They're trying to create a bit of goodwill, basically saying, "Hey, look at Apple bricking your unlocked iPhone and crippling you iPod Touch. Now look at us, giving existing customers lots of new features for free."
Microsoft ended up looking like the good guy against anti-consumer Apple. Wow. - Scruffydan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24then why doesn't the ipod camera connector work on new ipods? why do games purchased on a 5g ipod not work on the 6h ipods. why doesn't my 4th gen ipod get the enhanced scrolling found in the 5g ipods or why didn't they backport the search feature from the 5.5g ipods to the 5g ipods. Should I go on?
- strangewill, on 10/10/2007, -6/+26Because your iPod broke for the 3rd time, or you never owned a major-company MP3 player?
- inactive, on 10/16/2007, -5/+24Comment dugg for making me laugh when I read "cocksmoker"
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22Yeah why won't Apple upgrade my old iPod 5g to have the features of the 5.5? Its mostly software anyway. Nope, Apple just won't because they are greedy bums. See unlike Apple, which charges you for major updates for their Operating System, Microsoft doesn't. For all the XP machines we have at the office, NONE of the Service Packs cost money even though the last updates included firewall and other additional upgrades. It doesn't matter. Apple in this regard is just greedy.
- pakkman781, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18The search function of the 5.5G was never brought to the 5G. Comment buried for inaccuracy, since the writer is clueless.
