- temujin2012, on 05/14/2009, -5/+21Die Sharepoint! Everywhere I've used it, everyone hates it.
I hate it, I hate administering it. - redwire, on 05/14/2009, -0/+15Woah hold it.
People use sharepoint? - buzzd1ggity, on 05/14/2009, -0/+15I like sharepoint as much as the next guy - and I'm pretty sure he hates it.
- westyvw, on 05/14/2009, -2/+14Only because they have never used anything decent. I hate sharepoint with a passion. After using real content management, you realize what a stinky mess this is.
- fant0m, on 05/14/2009, -0/+8No *****. I am so tired of updating my office's ***** "Manual & Procedure" files every other day and editing the "code" so that some manager can walk up to my god-forsaken cubicle to have some stupid ass dancing .gif as the icon that leads to the next article.
*****.
Sorry. I highly, and sincerely dislike Sharepoint. - westyvw, on 05/14/2009, -0/+7You know its bad when a third party was making money by adding search capabilities.
- Ghoul, on 05/14/2009, -0/+7Please god let them have compliant HTML in SharePoint 2010. SP2007 is a huge soup of tables, invalid HTML tags, spacer images, and a very broken theme system (so called "themes" barely affect the HTML output, they just change colors and images, to change HTML you need to override the master page, individual pages, or the various controls).
Compare that to something like Drupal, which has a very robust theme system that allows you to override every bit of HTML easily, and it's like night and day. :-/ - sauron256, on 05/14/2009, -2/+9HA. I'll bet you've never used SharePoint in an enterprise environment, troll. (check his post history)
In fact, I'll bet you've never worked in an enterprise environment. - HurricaneDC, on 05/14/2009, -1/+7Why the hell did they skip Office 13?
- Aleman360, on 05/14/2009, -0/+6For the same reason hotels do.
- StrawberryFrog, on 05/14/2009, -1/+7" SharePoint 2010 is the family member most likely to be tweaked the most"
Because it's *****. - xxpor, on 05/14/2009, -0/+6for more win:

Trust me, for academia, >9000x better than sharept. - HurricaneDC, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5I hate those stupid superstitions.
- Chilehead, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5>It does EVERYTHING... badly.
FTFY - bashmohandesx, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4It is a Money Machine for Microsoft
- redwire, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Not to defend Sharepoint itself it in any way but everything pretty much has to go 64-Bit in the near future.
4Gb ram limits are just becoming too much of a burden. - westyvw, on 05/14/2009, -3/+7I moved my business to open office years ago even after I had purchased MS Office. It wasnt to save money, it simply is the better product at writer and spreadsheet integration working with very large documents. Add in the scripting, the ability to manipulate the document outside of office, easy content management in the manner of my choosing, installation on any computer if I want to and editing via the network, it was by far the better choice and still is.
- jezsik, on 05/14/2009, -4/+8Is anyone seriously going to upgrade to the new version of Office? I mean, how much more word processing do you need? I've switched to Open Office and haven't missed MS Office one little bit.
- jezsik, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4PDF's of notes? Good lord, what's wrong with plain ol' HTML files?
- keyo, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3Lol what?
Blackboard is a piece of *****, always giving me stupid javascript links, session errors when I login. Moodle is much better. - fant0m, on 05/14/2009, -2/+5Not people, just offices that don't invest in decent technology.
- mississippiman, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4www.alfresco.com
try linking to the original site - drowningfish, on 05/14/2009, -4/+7I'm curious as to why? I administer a SharePoint service that is used rather heavily, and the end-user feedback is positive.
- fant0m, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2To be honest - I'm sure they don't know the difference - that's why. Not trying to be a dick - just saying.
- aserer511, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2or your school could utilize something MADE for that; a la blackboard/moodle's latte service
- wassim2k, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Please, for the love of all that is holy, provide better error reporting!!! No more "an unexpected error has occurred"!
- kibbledbits, on 05/16/2009, -1/+2SharePoint started off in 2000 as a glorified file server. To this day it remains a glorified Office file server that sucks at everything else it tried to do. Take for instance the Wiki implementation, it's pure crap. As a matter of fact pretty much every feature of SharePoint is crap and maintaining it's own database is a nightmare because it gets corrupted over time and you will lose indexing.
- Danathar, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1I block you with the down thumb....so there
- EllimistX, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1Microsoft is superstitious (seriously).
- fant0m, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1I feel for you, man. The worst job is being the guy who everyone thinks can "customize" everything just like on the web.
- temujin2012, on 05/14/2009, -2/+3I like the Alfresco interface a bit better ( http://www.alfresco.com/ ).
ECM is a bitch on any level, and people are dumb. Sharepoint just seems to make people get all sorts of freaked out & lose 140 IQ points. People who freak the ***** out about using Sharepoint have been actually intrigued & wanting to use Alfresco, instead of scared of it.
There are others, Alfresco's simply the alternative I have experience with. - Chilehead, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1Have you ever been exposed to Livelink?
- mephitix, on 05/14/2009, -1/+2Yeah, sharepoint is big in companies, etc. Right now I think it's a billion dollar business with 100 million+ licenses sold. It works well with all of MS's new unified communications software/hardware.
- HonoredMule, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1More likely, Microsoft knows it has far more superstitious customers than customers so pedantic that their purchasing decisions will be affected by stupidity in version numbering.
- missourimobile, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1I kind of agree with your statement but you have to think about the cost to upgrade to a 64bit server plus the time it is going to take to test, migrate, deploy... Personally I think there should be some sort of backwards compatibility... There is still a large number of servers at 32bit in this world that run perfectly fine and removing a perfectly good server to upgrade to the latest software is a pain...
Maybe if I can get a government bailout to pay for the server it wouldn't be that big of a deal...
As far a 4 gig ram limits... Not everyone produces videos, plays graphic intense games, etc... Some people just click the Internet and search, check some email, and maybe download a song to an iPod... These simple tasks do not require 4 gigs of ram, nor a 64bit processor... I have no idea what you do for a living but I see this everyday where I work... ***** half the people I train on computers still think that having high speed Internet is suppose to speed up the computer in general...
So my point being... Not everyone requires that much power... Some do... Some don't... Depends on what you are doing... If you need the power you should be able to use it... If you don't need it you shouldn't be required to upgrade your entire computer just to use it... That is what pisses me off about all of these OS's that are released... Each release requires more and more hardware... What is wrong with the hardware I have? Just because MS decides to make things shiny shouldn't mean I need a new graphics card... Just make something that runs smooth and uses all the resources properly... no memory leaks etc...
ok i just realized I am ranting and I should be eating lunch...
Oh and thanks for digging me down... Makes me feel special... - kibbledbits, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1it's called a Wiki and it eats SharePoint for lunch.

- lorddazzer, on 05/14/2009, -1/+0Me: So... what does sharepoint do?
Sharepoint Person: It does EVERYTHING.
Me: okay... no *****. - bradleyland, on 05/14/2009, -2/+1Good luck getting it going. There's an hour long screencast that covers the basic configuration and installation of Alfresco, and that's not the half of it.
- Warlock333, on 05/16/2009, -2/+0You are ***** stupid. Seriously, you should should commit to a janitorial postion soon, and give up. Please don't comment on what you do not know or understand. - Merky42, on 05/14/2009, -3/+1I'm very happy with the Business Intelligence improvements I've seen so far in the next Office release. SharePoint, Reporting Service, PerformancePoint, Excel all powered by SQL Server is really becoming a great, affordable bundle imo.
- Xraven92, on 05/14/2009, -5/+3I'm a junior in highschool and our school is using Sharepoint as a "beta" to help the teachers better connect with us students. For my Physics class, the teacher puts up .pdf's the days lecture notes, homework solutions and study material. This has been EXTREMELY useful while i was studying for unit exams as well as the AP test. If anything, Microsoft should focus more on these networking solutions
- chrisvc86, on 05/14/2009, -8/+4More Silverlight implementation please!

http://www.osalt.com/alfresco - roxgod666, on 05/14/2009, -6/+1I always upgrade, and i always love the new versions. Open Office is too slow, Word opens up like 5x faster than Writer.
- missourimobile, on 05/13/2009, -9/+364 bit only??? Great now I am going to have to move all my old data to a new server...
