- latova, on 02/11/2008, -12/+102I don't understand this. First everyone hates vista and any positive comments towards vista get dugg down. Then people start claiming that "hating Microsoft is trendy", they get dugg up. Now positive comments towards vista are dugg up, without Microsoft having to make any improvements as of yet.
Did I miss something? - mopper, on 02/11/2008, -7/+83buried as false. my oem hacked vista is still genuine after updating. several posters at enganget confirm theres works as well.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/11/vista-sp1-still ... - goldfenix, on 02/11/2008, -0/+74In this case he *wants* it to redirect to local. You don't want it to not get a connection, rather you are trying to get it to hit a local webserver that will give the activation wizard a green light.
- Deano3041, on 02/11/2008, -14/+72does micro$oft not understand everytime they "slam the door" hackers just go in through the window
- merdiesel, on 02/11/2008, -7/+57You're so cool.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -2/+52Well, you shouldn't be using it in the first place...
- lastrite, on 02/11/2008, -10/+56There are still plenty of ways to crack the recent SP1 RTM that was leaked . . .
The obtrusive activation system still fails. - stoolpigeon, on 02/11/2008, -0/+46yeah- you missed that reading comments at digg will make you dumber. this site is an interesting display of group think - but unfortunately not reliable information. This post is a good example - sp1 leaves vista very hackable.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -11/+55IT'S A BLOG! IT MUST BE TRUE BECAUSE IT'S ON THE INTERNET.
IT MUST BE TRUE BECAUSE IT'S ON THE INTERNET. - ICSU, on 02/11/2008, -14/+58Funny how you mock Vista all the time and at the same time have to steal it to use it.
- rudy23, on 02/11/2008, -3/+37Microsoft slams the door on Vista pirates
Pirates just use of the of the few hundred other doors available . . . - cpcouvillion, on 02/11/2008, -8/+40I've never understood why people use 127.0.0.1 to block sites. 0.0.0.0 fails much faster and won't hit a local webserver if you are running one.
- goldfenix, on 02/11/2008, -0/+28Probably doing a HOSTS redirect to a program you'd run on the computer that would give the activation wizard a thumbs up.
- arcooke, on 02/11/2008, -1/+27You're not allowed to zing yourself.. that's against the rules.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -5/+31They WANT you to pirate them if the alternative is not to use them at all.
Their monopoly on the market is VASTLY more important to them than the income of purchasing them. - mvprj84, on 02/11/2008, -2/+27Vista Loader is the OEM crack that still works
http://cybernetnews.com/2008/02/08/vista-sp1-oem-b ... - biggrz, on 02/11/2008, -2/+24HOSTS file FTW!
- thebaron2, on 02/11/2008, -4/+24No you don't, lordthor. There are open-source alternatives for everything that MS does. There are also alternative OSes, some open/free, others not. Choices still exist though.
The only reason you would NEED to use Vista is if your employer requires that you do so, in which case the employer would be required to pay for, or provide it. - darkvad0r, on 02/11/2008, -0/+20Yeah, that blogger just found out and updated his post
- davewashere, on 02/11/2008, -7/+25First of all, this is false. Microsoft probably just wants pirates to get scared about updating and go buy a geniune copy of Vista, which isn't going to happen. Second, pirates are much better off with XP, which has just about all the features of Vista but without all the DRM. Microsoft should come up with a new business plan that doesn't involve the OS market or Office software. Perhaps they could sell cookies door-to-door. Who wouldn't buy cookies from Steve Ballmer wearing a plaid skirt?
- raynar, on 02/11/2008, -7/+24I would for yo momma....ZING!
- colonelbuckshot, on 02/11/2008, -4/+20Notice the thing under the comments that says "Reply to this comment"?
- AirRaven, on 02/11/2008, -1/+16...Ever heard of Windows XP? =P
- onwardknave, on 02/11/2008, -3/+18...and some of us don't. It's called breaking a monopoly.
- sgr215, on 02/11/2008, -10/+25Hackers 1 SP1 0
Did anyone actually think it'd be any different? - COLDshiver, on 02/11/2008, -1/+15The same exact thing happened when XP came out. Vista will be eventually the norm. People hated it, drivers were screwed up, incompatibilities. Look at it now, it's all stable and shows no hint of what it used to be. Look at Vista, it's messed up and unstable at times. Give it time and stop bashing it. A year from now or so I'd like to see what you have to say about Vista.
- InfiniteNothing, on 02/11/2008, -26/+40Well, you wouldn't want to _pay_ for something that sucked would you?
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 02/11/2008, -2/+16Why do you say things twice? You repeat everything twice?
That's a strange way to talk. What a weird way to talk. - inactive, on 02/11/2008, -2/+14I think it means leaving the door wide open still, but with a sign next to it that says "THIS DOOR HAS BEEN SLAMMED SHUT"
- lpmiller, on 02/11/2008, -1/+12it's not slamming the door shut when there still is a very easy activation hack left open, unless slamming the door shut means closing the door with a giant brick in the way.
- boobsbr, on 02/11/2008, -4/+14/facepalm
there's not a single game that needs dx10 to play at full graphics quality. even crysis plays at very high quality on dx9 with a simple text file edit.
so dx10 is irrelevant until now. - RAEP, on 02/11/2008, -1/+11My ass seems like a blogger.
- TheZorch, on 02/11/2008, -4/+13This won't last. You cannot stop pirates. Its impossible to prevent piracy. They might as well stop trying to stop them, because they're just wasting money trying.
- norman619, on 02/11/2008, -3/+12I think I'll call him a culo
- ApokalypseNow, on 02/11/2008, -8/+17File copy times.
Everything in general running 10-15% slower on Vista.
Eye-candy billed as a feature.
DRM nightmare - p51d007, on 02/11/2008, -1/+10They may have slammed the door, but I think they forgot to LOCK IT.
I just installed a CLEAN slipstreamed Vista/SP1 and activated it in about a minute.
According to the gods at MS, it's "genuine" - Firehed, on 02/11/2008, -1/+10And hackers will keep finding other ways. At the end of the day, the resources wasted trying to lock out a minority of people isn't worth it to them.
- noahhoward, on 02/11/2008, -9/+17Microsoft was forced to offer a downgrade license to go from Vista to XP. How is Vista not a failure.
- noahhoward, on 02/11/2008, -2/+10Who cares? How many DX10 games are out there? How's the hardware support?
- tim620, on 02/11/2008, -9/+17Who wants to pirate Vista?? Vista's best defense against pirates is Vista itself...
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -8/+16So once again, the question to Microsoft is: Will you now finally lower the overblown cost of Vista which, as with the rest of your software, you have repeatedly claimed has been the direct result of piracy? You remember, don't you? "Unfortunately, its our customers who bear the brunt of the cost of piracy".
- Dou6, on 02/11/2008, -0/+7Right, and iPhones that were on 1.1.3 firmware would never be SIM unlocked.
- CedEx, on 02/11/2008, -0/+7Or a ninja!
- joel8x, on 02/11/2008, -3/+10Because Digg has been lost to kiddies. Here today - gone tomorrow internet fads and trends are the rule because of Digg's popularity. Another site will pop up sooner or later to fill the void.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -2/+9Whoops:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1267
Well, that didn't take very long. - InsaneMachine, on 02/11/2008, -1/+8I'd love to use Ubuntu (actually I have Kubuntu installed right now) but the only thing that keeps me from running it full time are the games. And frankly I hate rebooting to play a game. I actually hate rebooting in general. And yes I tried cedega and the like.
- padfoot, on 02/11/2008, -1/+8If you need step by step instructions, you don't deserve to be a pirate.
- buddamus, on 02/11/2008, -2/+9People PAY for windows?
- kurtwinter, on 02/11/2008, -3/+10Great, no need to fix the speed or compatibility issues with the OS - but fix this critical flaw before anyone realizes they might actually like the product.
