- getrealnow, on 10/10/2007, -32/+152As a gamer, us gamers know what mouses are pretty sweet. The mx518, the g5, and the razor brands. This over price, "ultimate" gaming mouse isnt that ultimate to anyone.
"weight cartridge system and comes with four weights (up to 30 grams)" - Really well my g5 comes with 8 slots for for my weights to use, and it doesnt really make any difference
"The cable management system doubles as a storage compartment for extra weights and feet." Thats gonna get really annoying really fast
"When the Quick-Launch button is pressed from within Windows Vista, it will bring up the Windows Vista Games Explorer so gamers can instantly see the games available in their PC's game library." Oh yeah thats what i need on my mouse, defuse the bomb! NO *****! I hit the quick launch button - no thanks
"LCD. With the first LCD on a gaming mouse, gamers can easily keep track of key gaming actions" Yeah because instead of playing the game i am gonna be watching my tiny 1 inch lcd on my mouse
"Instantly switch between DPI settings. A 2,000-DPI laser engine delivers super-fast response time, and three DPI switches behind the scroll wheel allow gamers to toggle between low-, medium- and high-sensitivity settings -- in-game, at any time." Alread on the g5, and guess what i don't really ever use it - Jwoey, on 10/10/2007, -6/+48You're such a mouse snob. But you made good arguments and I agree!
- LR2_, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40Microsoft has been making reliable mice for years.
- nicpedersen, on 10/10/2007, -3/+38Awesome looking mouse although the quick turn feature seems like a cheat...
- itseffinkasey, on 10/10/2007, -7/+38And yet I bet that it ONLY comes right handed, screw left handers... I'm sick and tired of using a right handed mouse!
- kent1146, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33Direct link to Microsoft's site (working as of this posting):
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/productdetails.aspx?pid=100 - kahlessreborn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27 Turn on a dime. The new Quick Turn feature -- a performance-enhancing macro -- is built right into the software and lets users check their perimeter at any angle from wherever they are in the game with the click of a button.
~I concur This sounds like cheating - DiddyWolf, on 10/10/2007, -10/+33Umm... It's ***** ugly.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Microsoft make some of the best peripherals on the market.
- bagelpirate, on 10/10/2007, -6/+26I dugg you using a mx518
- Verdanic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Why would I look at a screen on my mouse? Maybe I'm being outrageous or something, but I thought it was less distracting from your monitor to.. look at your monitor for that information.
Why is the quick launch button where your palm will rest? There's not one way in which that makes sense.
Sticking with my MX1000. - bakkouz, on 10/10/2007, -10/+26wow. seconds ago this story had 26 diggs and was at the bottom list of the upcoming stories page. now its on the front page with 29 diggs.
How the heck did it bypass all the other stories that have far more diggs?
strange. - hasahugedig, on 10/10/2007, -9/+25didn't you know? Google doesn't have a deal with digg anymore, it's Microsoft now.
- HPCELarry, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24Gaming mice aren't wireless. That adds lag.
- ghaltmann, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19As a gamer, I actually enjoy Microsoft mice. I find them nice to use and I've been using my current one for about a year. It may look crazy, but I would wait to actually try it out in person before judging. With tactile interfaces, what you see doesn't always match what you're feeling so whether it "looks cool" is irrelevant.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/10/2007, -1/+155000 mice? sounds like more of an infestation.
- creep303, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Your comments are unfounded and not really backed up by anything.
- albiniak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14yeah, kinda like the recoil readjust (down __ pixels).
- kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16i love my g5. wouldnt trade it for the world. this thing looks cheap, and uncomfortable. (plus ll your points)
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Yeah, and precognition.
- sh4rkb1t3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Have fun when the batteries run out during a clanwar, or when the poor reception kicks in after your battery is half gone!
- ahhell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Learn how to ***** spell.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10It reminds me of that car that Homer Simpson and his brother designed themselves. It had EVERYTHING!!
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I understand that you want to be cool and bash Microsoft, but SideWinder products have actually been some of the best on the market. It's the operating system that we hate...
- harvinator24, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I never like the idea of macros in multiplayer games like call of duty, bf2, and so on. A macro just gives people the ability to do actions quicker then they normal can, which is a no go in my book.
- kippa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Er, the link works fine, do you have rage issues or something? Did your mother never hug you?
- nublet, on 10/10/2007, -8/+16what a disaster in ergonomic design. not to mention the overkill of "features."
- Dgen_X, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7well...anything can be thought of as a cheat...EA thinks that the field of view provided by wide screen monitors is equal to a cheat
use of macros is thought of as a cheat by some...hell...having anything other than the exact same hardware as your opponent could be thought of as cheating
people will complain about anything... - elnerdo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7So.. we can conclude that only Jedi can properly use wireless gaming mice?
- LordSlashstab55, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9it's good for competition, but logitech bitches, that's right I said it.
- sh4rkb1t3, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11It sounds like they just made a gimped version of the G5, added some gimmicks that you should never use, then made it look and handle terribly. It's funny how the report rate was never mentioned anywhere, it's probably like 250 hz.
LCD screen on a mouse. ROFL. - DerGeist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It'll probably even LOOK like cheating, which is key. Most admins have to rely on spec'ing alleged cheaters, and if your movements seem just a tad too "perfect" to be human, in comes the ban. I guess you could say this about those keyboards with macros too, but ... oh wait, those are usually banned as well.
Even so, it probably counts as a cheat by a "reasonable man's" definition. The big difference here is that, unlike a "better" mouse, this actually moves FOR you instead of enhancing your own movements. Anything that actively plays in your place is cheating -- as opposed to passively interpreting your movements more accurately.
So, yeah, that's cheating. - Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6STFU!
- bassoondux, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9It probably isn't a good idea to use a mouse left-handed in the first place. I'm a lefty, but I still use a mouse in the right hand, because I know it would be incredibly inconvenient to have to rearrange every computer I use. I suppose if you're a real hard-core gamer, then you almost have an argument, but I really think you ought to be a competent righty mouser by now.
- CryoNine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I think what you're really failing to realize is that extra buttons mean more key bindings.
- lpmiller, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9that just requires more skill.
- VocalFX, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11That looks absolutely disgusting.
- frazw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'd bet that the digg rate has something to do with it. So if it get 25 diggs in 10 secs it goes on the front page but if it gets 25 in 2 years it doesn't. Or perhaps the number of comments
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8You won't EVER see a gamer use a wireless mouse.
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Razer Diamondback
- ataxiaverge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The mouse also comes with two batteries, and lets you hotswap them in just a few seconds. Like frsrblch said, it's really rare that you actually run out of batteries
- DMDekoth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah. Look how much of a flop that "XBOX" was.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Bogus huh? I guess that explains why it links directly to the correct ***** product. But of course if you're THAT PARANOID about the Digg effect, I guess you could call bs on every link someone posts. But either way, you're full of *****. Nice grab for attention though.
- gypsi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4for every mouse connoisseur there are 50 more right behind them ready to drop the cash. like many other companies and products, they are simply exploiting this reality. such companies will never go broke, regardless of "l33ts" like yourself
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4MX510 here.
When I first saw an MX518 in a store, I thought someone had done a very very poor job safely shipping it. - tony134340, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6MX518 FTW!
- sychodelix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm a hardcore gamer and I've used a wireless mouse for over a year. As long as you have something that notifies you when the batteries are low and have some backup rechargeable batteries handy, it's not a problem. Lag is NOT an issue if you have a decent wireless mouse. The older ones had issues with gaming response but it hasn't been that way for a LONG time, unless you just are dumb enough to buy a cheap crap mouse.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Macros are considered cheats by most people, I would say because you're programming a keyboard (or controller, or mouse) to press button sequences everyone else must do (literally) by hand. They have a HUGE advantage since they won't get as tired. In fast-paced FPS, this is extremely important.
- lpmiller, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7except those that do.
- spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5"When the Quick-Launch button is pressed from within Windows Vista, it will bring up the Windows Vista Games Explorer so gamers can instantly see the games available in their PC's game library."
They lost me at that. You just know this isn't a mouse designed by people who actually play games. it was designed by some idiot from marketing. Does anyone even use the games explorer in Vista?
All I want on a mouse of gaming is high DPI, and a couple of customizable side buttons, and for it to be comfortable in my hand. That's it. -
