- Slovenian6474, on 02/20/2008, -2/+67Hmm, makes me feel like going back from Vista to XP just to try this out. I like installing things.
- Slovenian6474, on 02/20/2008, -4/+69seeing as you have "mac" in your name, I'd assume this doesn't apply to you. You're comment should read "I don't care" which would be more accurate of a comment but equally worthless.
- scb0825, on 02/20/2008, -0/+53This update is worth while. I applied it to my XP machine a month or so ago... and it did increase the overall speed of the computer like some reviews of SP3 have indicated.
Until all of the bugs are worked out of Vista, XP will still be very popular... I imagine it will be around for quite a while. - wtfkeyhole2pro, on 02/20/2008, -3/+50XP SP3 increased my computer's performance.
anybody else having the same "issue" :) - DiggLive, on 02/20/2008, -13/+54I'm going to be using XP SP3 until they release Vista SP2. By then, Vista will be completely hammered out like SP2 did for XP. There's still some issues with the Nvidia 6200 card blue screening near the end of installing the integrated SP1 ISO.
- doshindude, on 02/20/2008, -13/+51XP SP3: What Vista Should Have Been.
"Once SP3 ships, the next major milestone for Windows XP is June 30, when the popular operating system is slated to fall off the reseller and retail availability list."
I doubt this. Something tells me that XP will be staying on the market for some time. - MacParrot, on 02/20/2008, -3/+38Since many people don't want to upgrade to Vista, Microsoft support for XP is important. I'm not sure why some people are slamming it. Support of legacy products is a good thing and should be praised. Good for Microsoft.
- MacParrot, on 02/20/2008, -7/+35If you're using Vista, then yes an upgrade for XP won't do you much good. For the millions that don't want to use Vista, this is a good thing.
Good for Microsoft for continuing to support the OS that many people prefer over Vista. It's what they should do. - ileftfark, on 02/20/2008, -2/+28When you get out of high school, you'll find most work environments are using Windows, at least for the moment. You may find it hard to believe, but not all buildings have a large Computer Lab with Macs in them.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -2/+27looks like this'll be a worthwhile update..
- teh_techie, on 02/20/2008, -3/+26Let your-*****-self know, lazy ass.
- Rickard, on 02/20/2008, -0/+21I don't know about you guys, but for me, at least the perceived performance of XP is much better than Vista. Prefetcher and improved multitasking or not, XP just feels snappier.
- theragu40, on 02/20/2008, -0/+21In my experience, most XP service packs don't take well in Ubuntu. Maybe that's just me though.
- nyrol2, on 02/20/2008, -4/+23Just "upgrade" to vista, and you won't have that problem anymore.
- matriculated, on 02/20/2008, -1/+19People like you do much more damage to Apple than anything else.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -3/+21The problem with Vista is that for the first time, the software is too advanced for the "normal" hardware and the rest of standards.
I'd like to be able to use the 64 bit version of Vista all the time except nothing is compatible with 64 bit. Adobe products don't support 64 bit, including flash. The way I see it it's not Vista that sucks, it,s everything else. I got 4 gigs of ram but I'm stuck with an OS that only recognizes 3. I have a 64 bit system, but I'm stuck at 32 bit.
The people complaining about performance issues simply don't have the hardware to run Vista. If you got a P4 your OS is XP, if you got dual core, quad core or better your OS is Vista. I had absolutely no performance issues with Vista on the first install (dual core with 1333 mhz FSB). When I installed it on a p4 system, it ran terribly. Incredibly slow, it almost paralyzed the system. This was 3.6ghz P4 with 800mhz FSB.
XP3 is not what Vista should have been. XP is 32 bit and Vista was supposed to be the next standard: 64 bit. Except the rest of the world didn't catch up yet and it seems like it'll take at least another year before we start seeing Vista 64 compatibility as a standard. The problem is that 64 bit support requires a completely different binary and a completely different testing. So until 64-bit systems become the standard, we're just going to have to wait. - LloydBentsen, on 02/20/2008, -6/+23the world.
- chris9902, on 02/20/2008, -9/+25"you kinda missed the point. In your scenario, no one ends up buying anything and they're just stuck with XP forever"
That's EXACTLY my point. People say Vista isn't stable because they listen to internet nobody's with agendas. Vista is fine. Vista SP1 is even better. There's no reason NOT to upgrade. - estvir, on 02/20/2008, -1/+17Out of curiosity, have you actually used the 64bit version of Vista? Because Photoshop runs perfectly, so does flash, and I can't even remember the last time I ran into something that didn't run and I've played incredibly old games and so on.
- owenkun, on 02/20/2008, -1/+16Why trust a pre-slipstream version when you can use a known-good copy of XP that you already use and download SP3 from MS directly? There's no reason to chance getting pre-installed, pre-integrated malware if you can just do it yourself.
- Premier, on 02/20/2008, -4/+18Can't wait to see how many suckers screw themselves by trying to install this on their pirated copy of xp
- yujie, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14Does it integreate S-ATA drivers for fresh install?
- digjam, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14Call up MS customer service and see what they say :P
- MioTheGreat, on 02/20/2008, -1/+13Why do you tolerate OSX?
From that annoying and frequent beachball whch just hangs the system to your inability to resize a window from anywhere but that one corner, to that stupid dock...It's full of things that suck. - ThatEvilGuy, on 02/20/2008, -1/+13I take it, this is the last service pack?
XP needs one more update......... DX10 and it'll be set for another 5-8 years.
Come on MS please give us DX10! we know it's doable as been proven by some people. - Slovenian6474, on 02/20/2008, -2/+14I have. It was a fun install too.
- MonsterChaOS, on 02/20/2008, -5/+17The whole issue with that is that vista sp1 is pretty damned stable. I installed it on a 3700+ with 1.5GB of Ram and it runs great. In fact, it hasn't crashed once on me.
- ortucis, on 02/20/2008, -1/+13You've got something there?
- retral, on 02/20/2008, -1/+12DX10 is the only thing that's really keeping vista 'ahead' of XP, feature wise. You think they're going to put DX10 on XP and kill potential sales?
- IEatHamburgers, on 02/20/2008, -3/+14If XP was completely hammered out by SP2, then why are they releasing SP3, and why are you going to use it?
- wush, on 02/20/2008, -1/+12the service packs cease being magical milestones if they're just periodic bundles of existing updates
- cawpin, on 02/20/2008, -1/+12If you have SP3, then you have a minimum of SP2.
- epohs, on 02/20/2008, -1/+11http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa ...
- dawgma, on 02/20/2008, -4/+14It's not about waiting for something better.. it's about waiting for something that's reasonably stable.
If users are waiting for SP2 of every new Windows OS release, all that means is that user adoption is about 2 to 4 years behind the original release of a new OS. So you still get to take advantage of Vista.. then Windows 7.. then Windows 8... etc. but you wait until there are reasonably stable versions out.
So.. you kinda missed the point. In your scenario, no one ends up buying anything and they're just stuck with XP forever... - pcpimpster, on 02/20/2008, -1/+10=Unintelligible
- tabledesk, on 02/20/2008, -0/+9Yeah, you're wrong
- MioTheGreat, on 02/20/2008, -2/+11People seem to have a very warped view of what Vista/Longhorn was supposed to be/eventually became.
Longhorn was supposed to be a relatively minor update to XP, with lots of eye candy, and like two little neat technologies like the WinFS data store and the domainless "Castle" network setup (Which they might bring back with 7)
Instead, we got a MAJOR overhaul to every underlying system in Vista. Some systems, like GINA, the bootloader, network stack, audio stack, huge chunks of the display system, were completely scrapped and rewritten from scratch. Others just got major overhauls. Security got sweeping changes....etc
What we ended up getting is arguably much better than what Longhorn was supposed to be. It just took longer. - drocha184, on 02/20/2008, -2/+11Your a sick person. : )
- Slovenian6474, on 02/20/2008, -0/+8I have no problems with it. I enjoy the games put out for it. All the needed engineering apps run without a problem on it. I wouldn't say I'm tolerating it. I'm using it.
- negativefx, on 02/20/2008, -3/+11I think somewhere around 90% or more of the world's population cares, as they are on Windows XP SP2. So maybe you should gently insert your head back into your ***** where it belongs.
- owenkun, on 02/20/2008, -0/+8They'll maintain XP until it falls out of their support purview. It was like that for 98 and 2000 as well.
- spyrochaete, on 02/20/2008, -1/+9They supported Windows 98 for about 9 years. Still a few years of XP support to go. It is indeed commendable though.
- Proz, on 02/20/2008, -0/+7I don't get it. Why do you tolerate Macs?
The answer: Because everyone is different and has different needs and different taste. It is as simple as that. For me there is no real alternative to Windows XP/Vista. OSX and Linux do not support the software that I use, and OSX can't even run on the hardware I want it to... - negativefx, on 02/20/2008, -3/+10But he's just trying to spread some macwisdom! It just works! Like when trying to play a DirectX game for example. Or running 99% of the world's business software.
- estvir, on 02/20/2008, -4/+11Try actually reading it. It never says they're going to activate without a key, it OBVIOUSLY and PLAINLY states that they can complete their software setup without having to provide a key.
What's more embarrassing is that you're currently at +6. - mattmcm, on 02/20/2008, -0/+7Hai look guyz I has a smily too :)
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -0/+7Change your nickname. Even Paris Hilton isn't this ***** stupid.
