- primalsteel, on 10/25/2008, -3/+139Awesome of Microsoft to step up like that!!
- colincattral, on 10/26/2008, -0/+118Even though the xbox live terms of service states that it is suitable for people over the age of 13, it is the parents responsibility to determine whether or not their child is responsible and mature enough to play online. Likewise, it is also their responsibility to determine whether the content of a videogame is suitable for their child, which is where the ratings come into play. I will not argue that he should not have been playing COD4 because he was 15 and the game is rated mature, because there are a few 15 year olds that are mature enough to handle the content and, and there are a lot of people >17 that are not. People mature at different rates. However in this instance he should not have been on xbox live and playing COD4, because if he were mature enough for the service and the game, he would not have run away from home when his parents tried to discipline him. You can't have the TV or console babysit your kid and then expect to be an effective parent. It doesn't work that way.
- MLGLies, on 10/26/2008, -5/+103This could really backfire for Microsoft.
Gotta love the parents blaming the big bad company though.
Pro Tip: Be a better parent. - wheresmclean, on 10/26/2008, -3/+74The synopsis written by the poster was terrible.
- pumacub, on 10/26/2008, -1/+70You know, Microsoft stands up for a lot of things. They give a lot of money to a wide range of charities and do a lot of good. Whether you like their products or not they probably don't deserve most of the raw hate that's thrown their way.
- DarkShroud, on 10/26/2008, -3/+57This is why you moniter your kids. When my nephew has been on my PC or consoles for too long I make him save and get off.
- ryancxx, on 10/26/2008, -2/+41Anyone have a UAV?
- ohokjonnyb, on 10/26/2008, -3/+30They just can't find him because he's wearing a ghillie suit.
- BigRiggy, on 10/26/2008, -3/+29True, scientists state there is zero chance of addiction with PS3.
- JUSTICE4ALLL, on 10/25/2008, -1/+25Hope they find the Kid!!
- Atertract, on 10/26/2008, -4/+24I sincerely hope this kid is reunited with his parents so he can continue being a giant douche.
- dha07030, on 10/26/2008, -1/+20How much are you going to put up?
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -4/+22god theres so many of these little bitches on Xbox Live.
- edilclyde, on 10/26/2008, -0/+18hundreds of children go missing everyday.. why does he have to be special? $50,000 is more than enough. Not a lot of companies would even bother to put a dime. Its not Microsoft's fault. They are just trying to help out. Its not about being a multi-million dollar company.
- alvaris, on 10/26/2008, -2/+18quite weird
- artfuldodga, on 10/26/2008, -4/+18@afrocarter yeah, its microsofts fault the boy is missing, they forced him to buy and play the online game... parents shouldn't set any ground rules when it comes to what type of games their kids are allowed to play and how often they are allowed to play them. in the end, this falls on the parents not looking out for their children in every way possible
glad to see microsoft step up and help out though. - JUSTICE4ALLL, on 10/26/2008, -1/+13Maybe you took him !!!
- str3ama, on 10/26/2008, -6/+18I don't know why they did, good for PR I guess.
But honestly this is really just some stupid spoilt sheltered kid who ran away from home and found out that the real world isn't as easy as the Internet and video games would have you believe. Blaming Microsoft for the disappearance of a kid who happened to play a game on it, is asinine. - Bunglish, on 10/26/2008, -1/+13Digg it just to get the information out.
- Atrius, on 10/26/2008, -0/+11Jokes are meant to be funny, you know.
- primalsteel, on 10/26/2008, -8/+19I hope to God that everyone that looks at this reports you like I did ,to get people like you off digg, I looked at your other comments as well and you need some serious help KID!
- hotsho111, on 10/26/2008, -3/+13And then you'll let him go?
- Halgy, on 10/26/2008, -3/+13MrSteveman1:
Of course they are losing money on the XBox; every came console since the Atari has lost money on the simple console. They make the money from the game sales
And I really don't see how Microsoft abuses it's market position. Was releasing an inferior product (Vista, which I actually like) "abusive"? Is bundling software like Media Player and Internet Explorer with Windows "abusive" (despite the fact that every other operating system does the same)?
I don't know what company you're thinking about that is perfect. I know Microsoft isn't, but it isn't the worst in the bunch, either. Not by a long shot.
And when is the last time that Apple helped find a kidnapped kid? - HCviolence, on 10/26/2008, -0/+10Jesus Christ didn't these parents give the "you don't meet strangers you meet on the internet" speech?
- thallium205, on 10/26/2008, -0/+10I bet Microsoft has donated a larger percentage of their income than you have... STFU
- LonesomeFighter, on 10/26/2008, -2/+12it is PR, and it is only costing them $25grand if the boy is found, $0 if not. But it's still for a good cause and it is something they did not need to do.
- zimz, on 10/26/2008, -4/+14That has to be the most ridiculously ***** retarded description I have ever seen.
- Arkz, on 10/26/2008, -2/+12more like owning them, and getting called a cheating ***** jew... i wish they would make servers for people 21 and older or something so i dont have to deal with (as many) immature retards.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -3/+12i dont know why people are digging him down. its true, on ps3 hardly anyone uses a headset so it would be impossible for him to get lured anywhere.
- primalsteel, on 10/26/2008, -15/+23Its probably some freak pedophile like you that hunts these kids on the net !! your a sick fck!!
- Bacontastic, on 10/26/2008, -0/+8Sums up my feelings exactly on the issue. Well done.
- chickenloco, on 10/26/2008, -1/+9Nice to see Microsoft step up - but, the real problem is the parents, not Microsoft. The parents need to be aware of his use and stop it if it is excessive.
- primalsteel, on 10/26/2008, -6/+14In this case though its not all about call of Duty 4 ,I disagree 100% that a 15 yr old child is or should be making his own decisions ,seems this decision has wound him up missing and presumed abducted now! Mature decision !! he.s a child! as for the addiction I have seen it first hand and when you take away that fix(game) it caused a reaction -CONNECTION!
although it is believed that he was possibly taken after running away by someone he befriended online ,So many variables !one conclusion. a boy is missing bottom line!!!!! - Volatile36, on 10/26/2008, -2/+10………………….._,,-~’’’¯¯¯’’~-,,

And your perspective shows. - primalsteel, on 10/26/2008, -1/+8Excellent Comment !!
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -7/+14mrsteveman1:
Tell me, what products have you brought to market? While your obviously entitled to an opinion, the fact that Microsoft has become the dominate player underlines the fact that they produce superior products.
Look at Firefox. Produce a quality product and you can steal market share.
Look at Open Office. Now theres a turd. - briansearles, on 10/26/2008, -1/+8Unfortunately, he has the stealth perk. We're *****.
- kaiwai, on 10/26/2008, -0/+7Maybe instead of blaming the kid - there is a valid reason for why he is using the game as a form of escapism.
Neither Microsoft, the parents or the kid are to blame; it is a tragic situation that needs to be resolved through communication and caring. - Cruelapollo, on 10/26/2008, -2/+8They are also offering stock options.
- SheehanMay, on 10/26/2008, -1/+7You can also set parental controls on the console limiting the ability for your kids to use voice chat.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -1/+7If he's an addict he is probably just playing COD4 somewhere. Check the last time his account was active.
- meshie, on 10/26/2008, -3/+9This opens a huge can of worms... very weird story, and very weird move by Microsoft...
Also, when they find the kid, they should take the $50,000, change it into pennies, fill up a sack with a big green dollar sign printed on the front, and whack the kid across the head a few dozen times. Maybe that'll teach him. - razzel, on 10/26/2008, -0/+6If he does ever come home, I think his parents will end up killing him anyway. I live a couple hours a way from his house and this is a huge issue and there are a lot of different search teams looking for the boy. Hopefully they find him.
- razzel, on 10/26/2008, -0/+6I think you missed a big part. Thats why he ran away, cause they took his Xbox away cause he played to much.
- skipunk, on 10/26/2008, -3/+9What I find kinda weird about this story is that the kids dad seems convinced that his son is with people he met over xbox live, and is even suggesting that he was abducted by someone on xbox live. I saw an interview with him on cbc this morning and he even implied that organized crime could be involved in the online gaming world, through tournaments,etc.. I'm not saying all this outside the realm of possibility, but seems a little far fetched, especially in this case.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -5/+11Whoever wrote this article ***** sucks at writing.
- Proctor, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5I see what you did there
