- Wesside, on 07/07/2009, -5/+82Just need to ditch IE, which should have been done years ago.
- Xaevier, on 07/07/2009, -4/+74A security hole in internet explorer?
MADNESS I SAY! - harrisbradley, on 07/07/2009, -5/+59What's new?
- Drahkir, on 07/07/2009, -1/+39Statistically? The majority of computer users.
- adventureindia, on 07/07/2009, -8/+43Internet Explorer is really losing competition with other browsers like Mozila , Chrome and Safari
- austinnn, on 07/07/2009, -4/+38Microsoft? admitting a problem with their operating system!?
must be something else.
Like them trying to scare the people still using xp into buying vista. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+28Don't bury the convert - praise him for finally seeing the fire... fox.
- paradigmx, on 07/07/2009, -1/+26My grandparents used IE until I installed Firefox, copied over their settings, changed the Firefox Icon to the IE icon and changed the shortcut to read Internet Explorer and deleted the actual IE shortcut.
Then I just told them Microsoft updated their computer. Trust me, it was far easier than having to explain to them why they had to use a new browser.
Average computer users use what's readily available, IE is the first thing they see, so they use that. - internetaffairs, on 07/07/2009, -10/+33uhh...who the hell still uses IE?
- yocouchdigga, on 07/07/2009, -3/+25lol'd
- brianpeiris, on 07/07/2009, -1/+23Considering more than 70%[1] people still use XP, it *is* a major vulnerability. The point of the article is to get the news out so that people can implement the fix before crackers have a chance to exploit the afflicted machines.
Here's Microsoft's advisory: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory ...
and the Knowlege Base article with the fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972890#FixItForMe

- Kwipper, on 07/07/2009, -2/+21Okay. So I use Firefox and Windows XP. So this problem doesn't affect me.
It's simple. If you want less problems in Windows XP, then stop using Internet Explorer. - Macintoshreader, on 07/07/2009, -3/+21Great to know that IE's market share is dying thanks to Firefox and Safari mostly, and in part to Chrome. IE is a non-standards compliant browser with tons of security holes and it's a pain in the ass for developers. It needs to die a horrible, slow, and painful death.
It's market share is down to 55% now! - poonjob, on 07/07/2009, -1/+19no ***** sherlock
- snarkastic, on 07/07/2009, -2/+18This thread is overflowing with smugness.
- uberduger, on 07/07/2009, -3/+18Great comment. Would digg again.
- fangor, on 07/07/2009, -0/+14"Programmers can grant to ActiveX controls a much higher level of control over Windows than Java applets ever achieve, making them both more powerful and dangerous." (from the wiki, such as it is)
Can we just label ActiveX as a whole a security vulnerability and move on? - jaxter2010, on 07/07/2009, -2/+16You're doing it wrong.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/07/2009, -1/+15Hah!
- Myrth, on 07/07/2009, -0/+14It needs to die a horrible, FAST, and painful death.
FTFY - Data33, on 07/07/2009, -1/+14And an ARPANET
- SchmuckofNI, on 07/07/2009, -20/+33Guess its time to finally ditch XP and Internet Explorer. Shame really.
- bigpappapunk, on 07/07/2009, -0/+12IE reminds me of AOL
- Wilddigi, on 07/07/2009, -7/+19What else is new?
- uberduger, on 07/07/2009, -0/+12I thought it was just me who did that! I wonder how many people are using Firefox and not actually aware of it...
- tama00, on 07/07/2009, -4/+15Bill Gates is laughing while he is rolling in a pile of money and throwing your money up in the air.
- spunker202, on 07/07/2009, -2/+13Internet explorer

- paradigmx, on 07/07/2009, -3/+14"Hi, I'm an elitist and am better than you!"
Fixed - Myztry, on 07/07/2009, -0/+11This is how Conficker got started. From the announcement of a Microsoft Bug® that had been laying in wait since Windows 2000.
I suppose Conficker is due for a sequel... - waynehoggett, on 07/07/2009, -2/+12Madness? This is SPARTA!!
- FlyingCaveman, on 07/07/2009, -1/+11This is by design.
- DirtyVicar, on 07/07/2009, -3/+13This article is really, really, really informative. I really know now what kind of problem to look out for on these infected websites. Thanks, AP!
- aychseven, on 07/07/2009, -7/+17me. at you for running vista.
- BahamutSalad, on 07/07/2009, -1/+11It's simple. If you want less problems, then stop using Internet Explorer.
Fixed. - waynehoggett, on 07/07/2009, -1/+10^ Correct
- Myztry, on 07/07/2009, -0/+9Why buy Win 7? The RC is here and free for the next year.
- insky60, on 07/07/2009, -2/+11Here's another fix:
http://www.get_any_os_that_isnt_xp_or_if_you_want_ ... - paradigmx, on 07/07/2009, -1/+10Why buy Vista? 7 is coming out in October.
- MacParrot, on 07/07/2009, -3/+12Please stop. Not everyone want to run OS X nor should they have to.
- Apocrypha, on 07/07/2009, -0/+9"It can allow hackers to remotely take control of victims' machines."
So in other words the same damn vulnerability that is always found in IE. The best reason to never use IE. Period. It's never fixed. Use Firefox instead.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html? ... - MacParrot, on 07/07/2009, -0/+9In a world where ordinary viruses get blocked by free basic software, there was one virus that shook off those feeble attempts in a bid to take over the WORLD!
Conficker 2: Now they're REALLY pissed!
(coming to a theater near you) - nenadsuperzmaj, on 07/07/2009, -7/+16And then they ask me why I use Linux! HA! Have fun installing those cool security patches :)
- machej, on 07/07/2009, -0/+8It never crashes on me... It used to when I used adobe reader but now I use foxit...
- BahamutSalad, on 07/07/2009, -1/+9Apple are just as bad as Microsoft, if not worse, with matters of (in)security.
http://www.overclockersclub.com/news/25012/
Took them nearly 6 months to patch the hole. There are no excuses available for that, it's just plain lazy.
Because of issues like this I'd strongly recommend not going from IE to Safari, but from IE to Firefox, Opera, or Chrome instead. Changing your browser from IE to Safari because Microsoft write insecure code (and don't care), when Apple are guilty of the same is idiocy. - spunker202, on 07/07/2009, -2/+10Pc's by themselves don't suck.
It's the brainless people behind the monitor who do.
Why would you even force yourself to surf IE when there are more than 4 better browsers out there ?
And of course if you visit porn/games/p2p sites using IE and then start crying why you get viruses like a 4 yo who's lost his candy, then you deserve to be tied to a pole and face-slapped from dawn to twilight. - nenadsuperzmaj, on 07/07/2009, -2/+9Of course they do, but they are smooth and regular, and there is no panic involved.
