- eleete, on 06/25/2008, -1/+7XP is by far the better, faster and more stable of the two I agree. This will give people time to switch to Linux before the next abomination from Redmond. Linux is far superior to both, and although it doesn't run Windows apps (i agree that is a minus) soon that will be dealt with. The folks at Wine are making inroads to this. If you download http://www.ubuntu.com, you can run it right off the CD without installing it, and have access to all your Vista/ WinXP files and it's full of apps and utilities. All for the low low price of Free, as in freedom and beer. Open Source is the way to go. It is good to see Redmond recognize the pleas though.
- inactive, on 06/25/2008, -0/+5Good to hear they wised up. Just bought a new laptop and the first thing I did was remove Vista and installed XP Pro.
- inactive, on 06/25/2008, -0/+4I use XP Pro..Vista is..is..is..not very good! Has anyone got service pack 3 yet? I downed it and everything went haywire...so I expunged it!
- faultlineusa, on 06/25/2008, -0/+3I love my Vista. I have never had any problems! Download service packs just fine. Are these comments from folks with an interest in Apple?
- DerangedPenguin, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1I have one laptop that runs XP Pro, a Dell D600 (stop laughing)... Installing SP3 violated my belief that you should never install an odd numbered MSFT service pack, however, no problems encountered yet. The Dell D600 is one of four laptops I own. Two of the others run Linux and the third one a Northgate 2000 with a B/W LCD that is about the size of the screen on my cell phone runs FreeDos/Bad Seal GUI, and Linux 2.2. All ways fun to fire up the olde Northgate next to someone running a tricked out Dell XPS or Alienware laptop.

Ubuntu is a great distribution, however, for people who are just wanting to stick their toe in the water I give them a copy of Knoppix , that way they can keep their spyware infested, Trojan loving Windows hard drive "intact" then I move them over to Ubuntu or Kubuntu with a "Windows" theme.
Well this news makes me all weepy eyed. At least Microsoft is considerate enough to keep their Enterprise Level Gameware alive. Oh? this was more about competing with cheap Laptops, with embedded Linux, than about actually taking care of their customers needs and desire. Good to see that MSFT is still putting profits before customers. No seriously I am weepy eyed. - WantToPlay, on 06/28/2008, -0/+0I don't like change... Yuk!!
- kuatto, on 06/25/2008, -6/+3I bash Vista because it's cool on Digg and it makes me look like a giant tool. w00t!
