1. There is the classic "Microsoft tax" on the laptops now, raising the costs across the board to pay for Windows.
2. Microsoft gets a say in future developement of the platform, which means they will do EVERYTHING they can to cut linux out in all those classy little ways MS screws competitors.
This is just a bad idea. Companies that get in bed with MS get up and find they got screwed.

This will harm OLPC more than it helps.
Ah, and OF COURSE Windows REPLACES linux on the laptops, it's not dual boot giving users and option of not being controlled by MS.
Oh gee, they are doing because some countries REQUIRE windows. Golly, I wonder if MS lobbied those governments and BOUGHT that requirement.

Now onto the rest of your BS. The laptops weren't selling. Just because you hate windows doesn't mean everyone else does. People wanted Windows on these.
