Microsoft Nixes XP Extended-Life Rumors
reddevnews.com — "Our plan for Windows XP availability is unchanged," read a statement issued by one of Microsoft's official PR agencies, as reported by a PCWorld article. "We're confident that's the right thing to do based on the feedback we've heard from our customers and partners."

- silverleaves, on 04/25/2008, -2/+4I guess someone has just a little bit too much pride to do the right thing. How many years have we been screaming at them to fix their dog gone OS? It just gets bigger and more cumbersome and they might understand but refuse to change, compromise or fix it. They are too big and a bit like our government, bogged down and wallowing in their self importance.
- kwelte57, on 04/25/2008, -2/+1Apparently they feel they have enough of a stranglehold on the industry that people can't jump ship and go with other products, that we must accept Vista or else! That kind of arrogance will eventually cost them.
- Happy_Phantom, on 04/25/2008, -3/+1Steve Balmer should step aside for Ron Paul?
- cquinnd, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1They listened, they made fundamental changes to their OS design and they released a new OS based on that design.
Now people like you are screaming for them to go back to the "broken" OS that you were screaming at them about for years. Make up your mind.
- nahsrocketeer75, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1You shouldn't have to have the PR department translating the big guy's off-the-cuff comments.
- neurotensin, on 04/25/2008, -1/+0As a consumer who likes a computer OS that work well (XP) I am resistant to changing to a new system (Vista) that has so many issues highlighted in so many forums. The best way I can communicate my ire is to look at other alternatives, linux or apple. I personally feel while MS feels that Vista is the best option the general computer buying public may in fact change their minds. I wonder if Vista is the only OS used at the MS head office?
- Happy_Phantom, on 04/25/2008, -2/+1I don't understand why Microsoft cares; they make money either way, whether they sell XP or Vista. I, personally, prefer Vista, but don't support the idea of yanking XP since so many "customers and partners" would rather have it stick around indefinitely.
- cquinnd, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Because by that logic they should still be supporting Windows NT, 2000, 95 thru ME (shudder) and OS/2.
- DarkShroud, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2XP is very old. It's already received one major overhaul for free. How many times is MS supposed to overhaul this OS for free at the cost of millions?

- oldgal, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1It will be interesting to see how many customers request downgrades.
