- macmcraeart, on 06/06/2009, -13/+491I don't know - but it certainly has the coolest wallpapers of any OS ever.
- pfhayter, on 06/06/2009, -14/+487Windows 7 will cure cancer.
- TempusEdax, on 06/07/2009, -15/+221Binky79 would know.
- thethunderbird, on 06/07/2009, -4/+174Windows will divide by zero without error.
- Gogogo111, on 06/07/2009, -12/+166It definetely is. Using the Windows 7 RC for about two weeks now, I find that its much faster than Vista, more stable and its actually been thought out.
- frousfroud, on 06/07/2009, -47/+164What's with all the Vista hate? I for one happen to be really satisfied with it.
- meghalc, on 06/07/2009, -13/+112or be used on a system that has some cancer curing machine hooked up; we all know OSX won't support the driver for it!
- OneOfNone, on 06/07/2009, -1/+82Install Windows 7 on your Mac and dual-boot. Better yet, add Ubuntu on the 3rd partition to cover all the bases.
That way, you can be smug in any situation. It's like being able to flip people off with four hands at once. - Johnglave, on 06/06/2009, -12/+90Your the worst fanboy i have ever seen on Digg.
- inactive, on 06/07/2009, -1/+79Well it certainly can't be their worst OS that's something to keep in mind they found the ground floor with ME.
- codyman, on 06/07/2009, -4/+77As a mac user predominately, I still think windows 7 is a good OS
all I gotta say is nothing makes you work harder than good competition ;-) - Xaevier, on 06/07/2009, -2/+70And then 4chan brought it back.
- jcronkhite, on 06/07/2009, -12/+78I honestly can't believe the RC is a Microsoft product. It is actually really stable, speedy, and seemingly secure (yet to be seen). The eye candy introduced in Vista was pretty, but not of great utility. Now, the eye candy has been improved and is essential, in my opinion, to the new functionality of the task bar and start menu. And the drag/drop resizing of windows to the right or left or maximized works great and is a great idea.
I'm running Windows 7 RC 64-bit, boot camped on my new Macbook and it's been a great experience. I have also installed it on a 4 year old Compaq budget laptop, and Windows 7 did very well, where Vista was terrible on the same system.
Only time will tell, but it looks like the first real potential hit for Windows. - cosworth99, on 06/06/2009, -12/+76You don't understand Vista memory management obviously. Sorta like saying "I bought a V10 supercar but it uses all 10 cylinders!" Why have say 4gb of RAM and not USE it? Vista swaps memory around between OS and apps to utilize what you have.windows 7 does the SAME thing.
Oh, and so does MAC OS X.... - mechnoch, on 06/07/2009, -5/+65Gonna start posting "This is the best Windows ever!" on all Windows 7 articles...
- thethunderbird, on 06/07/2009, -4/+63Only if xkcd does a comic on it.
- soopafly, on 06/07/2009, -1/+57As long as it still plays their games, and able to get to the internet, 98% of Windows users won't care.
- cosworth99, on 06/06/2009, -12/+62I'm typing on it right now. Feature I like best but I personally won't use too much is that you can set your anti-virus to run as your screensaver.
Right click encrypt is cool.
I run Vista 64, Windows 7 32 and Mandriva/Ubuntu on varous drives with my XPS. Vista is great. 7 is great. Mandriva is great. Ubuntu HATES nvidia cards for some reason. I'll switch to 7 once it comes out. Why? I don't want to bother migrating my apps to 7 then having to start fresh since Microsoft won't allow a migration from RC1 to OEM/Retail DVD. Sorta stupid and I'm lazy wen it comes to rebuilding my desktop environment/app base. - teemingvoid, on 06/07/2009, -4/+44ohsnap
- FDisk, on 06/07/2009, -5/+45Reddit cured it. Digg linked to it.
- mark076h, on 06/07/2009, -5/+44digg cured cancer years ago.
- KibibyteBrain, on 06/07/2009, -0/+36@Hellothere123 N/0 is undefined, it doesn't really equal anything. However, lim(x->0, N/x)=infinity, but those are very very different things.
- pradaaddict, on 06/07/2009, -8/+41I really hope Apple blows us away at WWDC otherwise I won't be able to be so smug about my OS choice what with WIn7 looking so good.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -5/+37And that means something.
- colincornaby, on 06/07/2009, -6/+37I'm not sure it's a good sign when the Windows fanboys get all excited that the new version of Windows isn't a piece of crap.
I mean, I would HOPE Windows 7 is the best Windows ever, considering it is the newest Windows. If you have to ask the question... - KrazyKoala, on 06/07/2009, -1/+28noted, you get dibs on the meme...unless someone said that before you and I've missed it.
- inactive, on 06/07/2009, -0/+25@scy1192: Actually, it did calculate an answer, but Microsoft coded in a safeguard so it wouldn't completely destroy your mind trying to comprehend the answer.
- venomoushealer, on 06/07/2009, -0/+244chan also brought aids. But everyone knew that.
- oomfoofoo, on 06/07/2009, -5/+28I'm going to laugh when Windows 7 is released and it's an even bigger success than it is now. It will prove you and the rest of the BN trolls know nothing about what you post.
- jakem1, on 06/07/2009, -5/+27You don't need it. Get over it. The breadcrumbs in the address bar allow you to go up one level and more.
- Brandoskey, on 06/07/2009, -4/+25it's painfully obvious he is computer illiterate and trying to hide it.
why would your hp not support xp? merely because it didn't come pre-installed? there's no great cosmic secret to installing a different operating system - inactive, on 06/07/2009, -3/+24Vista hate? All I see is people who trash it being buried to the depths of hell, and people praising it being dugg up.
Unless you wanted an excuse to say you were satisfied with it? I don't know. If there's Vista hate, it's not here. - itsbob, on 06/07/2009, -11/+31Liar
- sphigel, on 06/07/2009, -11/+31Vista definitely didn't deserve it's bad reputation. That said, Windows 7 is much better. I switched my laptop from Vista to 7 because Vista ran like a dog on it. Much snappier with 7 installed and the taskbar kicks ass.
- EdGasket, on 06/07/2009, -2/+22I actually worked for a company that developed linear accellerators for radiotherapy treatment. We used Windows Server 2003 on the PCs though.
- Archer007, on 06/07/2009, -3/+22I'd ask binky79.
- cyrix, on 06/07/2009, -3/+21You say that a lot....ah ***** it I can't perpetuate this meme through this story.
- gcnaddict, on 06/07/2009, -2/+19"Microsoft won't allow a migration from RC1 to OEM/Retail DVD. Sorta stupid and I'm lazy wen it comes to rebuilding my desktop environment/app base."
Microsoft will allow it. You just need to go through some effort.
All it entails is dumping the contents of the DVD and changing the upgradable build value to 7100 and Windows 7 RTM will have no objections when it comes to upgrading an RC installation.

(scroll down to where it says "IF YOU REALLY REALLY NEED TO" without quotes) - inactive, on 06/07/2009, -1/+17Yes, since Windows ME was much worse.
- Ymeg, on 06/06/2009, -6/+22or the best troll.
- rolf, on 06/07/2009, -0/+16You also have your Windows fans (and Windows fanboys). Pretty much with any computer niche (Linux, Mac...) here.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/07/2009, -2/+18Why not go download the release candidate and see for yourself right now?
- thePTS, on 06/07/2009, -0/+15Exactly. Microsoft has had trillions of dollars and hundreds of developers, developers, developers, developers for decades. The ideas and technology to improve their OS have always been available.
Only the last years have Microsoft started to actually give people the small features and details that complete the picture and make their OS and apps into valuable resources. To care about the size and speed of their apps. To realize the smothering, arrogant monopolist position they've had in the market.
The people who applaud Windows / Microsoft here, should send a huge "thank you" to Apple and Linux, and hope that these platforms grow even bigger. We are still not at the optimal level of competition. More non-Windows users is going to make the lives of every computer user better. Believe me. - atgmac, on 06/07/2009, -0/+15@hellothere123:
1 / 0 is the same as asking:
Find a value for x:
x * 0 = 1
But that question doesn't make any sense. If you multiply a number by 0, you always get 0.
Just for a minute, suppose that any number divided by 0 is infinity.
1 / 0 = ∞
∞ * 0 = 1
But also:
2 / 0 = ∞
∞ * 0 = 2
a / 0 = ∞
∞ * 0 = a
So infinity multiplied by 0 equals every number. That doesn't make sense either.
That's why a/0 isn't infinity - it's _undefined_. If it were infinity everything would fall apart. - lorddazzer, on 06/07/2009, -5/+20I'd certainly hope so... if not , what the **** have they been doing these past few years?
- inactive, on 06/07/2009, -1/+16YOU ***** TRASHING THE CLASSIC 91 YUGO CABRIO I WILL KICK YOUR ***** ASS
- Unreal030, on 06/07/2009, -3/+17"Amusing, but I work in IT at the National Cancer Institute, and we have more Macs than PCs among our researchers."
Well that pretty much explains why it hasn't been completely cured yet....good going guys... - Jake10, on 06/07/2009, -7/+21IT'LL CURE DIABEETUS.
- chingy1788, on 06/07/2009, -1/+14Hell, I'd say faster than XP
Well...
With my SSD anyway
When I had XP on my laptop, and performed as many tweaks on the net for SSDs as I can, yes apps loaded faster, XP loaded fast, but the system was still stuttering, every so often the system locks up for 10 seconds, then continues on its way
When I put Windows 7 on it flew, I didn't turn page file off yet (though it shouldnt do much as 2GB of RAM is quite a bit), I didnt turn off indexing, ntfs last access stuff, alignment was automatically done, etc.
And even doing some speed tests on the drive yielded faster results on Win7 over XP
I kept XP on the laptop for a while incase there were any problems with Windows 7
... There were none
Everything installed fine (Except Daemon tools.. meh... I found alternatives)
Windows 7 worked fine, and XP was never touched again untill I removed it.
Running a Fujitsu S2110 Laptop... with an SSD I bought with Rudd's Stimulus Money - seltaeb4, on 06/07/2009, -4/+17Defending Windows = Stockholm Syndrome.
