- takitus, on 04/02/2008, -5/+60Well this cant be accurate because the graph adds up to 120.1% market share total.. someone needs to work on their math.
- stretch611, on 04/02/2008, -9/+59Long live Firefox.
- Hayaemsay, on 04/02/2008, -2/+38Long live standards compliant browsers which won't give web developers headaches.
- TruckStuff, on 04/02/2008, -1/+36I honestly would not mind IE if I didn't have to write an entirely different set of code for it. I can put together a really cool page in a couple of hours that works great on FF, Safari and Opera. Then I will spend the next three days trying to make IE do anything that wasn't on the web 3 years ago.
- colincornaby, on 04/02/2008, -9/+34I'm not at all a Microsoft fan (my computer is Microsoft software free), but the graph is entirely misleading. It separates the versions of IE to make it look like IE is losing share, when in reality share is just shifting from IE6 to IE7. Yeah, Firefox and Safari both made gains, but hardly the gains the graph wants to lead you to believe.
- eihwaz, on 04/02/2008, -1/+22Well, there's people who use more than one browser. I always have both Safari and Firefox open at the same time, and switch from one to the other depending on what features I need at the moment.
- inactive, on 04/02/2008, -7/+20Oprah sucks.
- mrsteveman1, on 04/02/2008, -0/+12IE marketshare has to drop for that to happen. Competition is good, especially when it forces Microsoft to stop playing ***** games
- DiggLive, on 04/02/2008, -7/+19IE in total went from 78.91 to 74.80 (-4.11), while FF in total went from 14.61 to 17.83 (+3.22)
IE 7 went from 31.40 to 42.65 (+11.25), while IE 6 went from 46.98 to 28.94 (-18.04)

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid= ... - carpespasm, on 04/02/2008, -2/+14You know, I know Opera is a very nice browser and has some cool stuff. I have love for you guys who use it, I still prefer firefox though and sometimes wonder what it is (other than memory footprint) that keep you guys sticking with it. Certainly not for it's popularity.
- Rijnzael, on 04/02/2008, -1/+12Now all Firefox needs is Group Policy integration and the Windows enterprise can drop IE.
- Crisender111, on 04/02/2008, -2/+12I was a hardcore IE user few years & never even thought about crossing over to anything else. Then one day I just tried FF with full intention of uninstalling it later. Had just read an article where the author claimed "you wont even realize when FF would become your preferred browsing tool" & I was like "oh really!"
But those exact words turned true for me. First it was jus one site, then the tabs, then the embedded Google search, then the extensions..........now I have to make myself remember IE is sitting somewhere in the corner. It has been relegated to the unused corners of my hard disk.
FF.....FTW...all the way! - aaron117, on 04/02/2008, -2/+10Firefox FTW!
- 47f0, on 04/02/2008, -0/+8I'm really falling in love with you BingoBunny - twoweektrial points out that "the general populace is... illiterate so to speak.", and you pop up and give us:
becuase - incuded - fukcing - browqser - Microsofot's
You really are priceless. Thanks for making my day ;-){ - se2131, on 04/02/2008, -0/+7Maybe I'm being an idiot, but...
70.1% + 29.8% + 18.0% + 2.4% > 100%
Can anyone explain the December numbers on that graph? - Hayaemsay, on 04/02/2008, -3/+10Speed-dial.
Transfers own tab, no floating window.
Interface is thin.
Handles tabs well.
Speed. - FLarsen, on 04/02/2008, -0/+7It seems you are annoyed about something.
IE is a pain for web developers and I wouldn't mind prophetpimp getting some away from it. Less users will force Microsoft to fix their browser, which is a good thing for everyone except Microsoft (and I couldn't care less for them). - DaviDTC, on 04/02/2008, -1/+7That is a horrible looking graph.
- Whackly, on 04/02/2008, -2/+8Mail, bittorrent, irc, rss, etc... all fresh out of install ready and waiting.
I use FF at work. I like it. On my home machines I use Opera. It's just better. FF doesn't suck. Even IE doesn't really suck all that bad unless you are TruckStuff (a few comments above w/ a legitimate gripe about IE). Opera is a fairly rare combination of easy and advanced. - gr00vy, on 04/02/2008, -3/+9That and this is the biggest spin I have ever seen. IE6 and IE7 together on that graph shows 99% of users. IE7 is growing twice as fast as firefox, and now there is some bizarre conclusion about IE8, whether or not it will be adopted?
Wow, I know every one like teh gecko. But sheesh this is not evidence of a win. The security stuff/sandbox in IE7 and IE8 is pretty darn cool. And the final break towards standards in IE8 bodes well for the product. Not saying that Firefox isn't cool, nor uncompetitive, but IE hasn't stopped either. - badassninja, on 04/02/2008, -1/+7You have to be joking me. If anything is going to get you laid it's going to be firefox. If for no other reason then "the fox is cute." I have no problem getting laid. But ass holes that recommend killing yourself on message boards over a web browser.. yeah, you might have one ***** of a time finding anyone who will live with you.
- 47f0, on 04/02/2008, -3/+9Here's the deal - no decent product should lose market share given the overwhelming placement advantages IE enjoys. You literally can't get a Windows machine without IE. Under those conditions, only gross managerial incompetence, or severe product deficiency will make you lose share - looks like MS has nailed both of those.
- 47f0, on 04/02/2008, -1/+7Very good, my little bingobungle friend - now do the Ballmer monkey dance for us.
- Rauby, on 04/02/2008, -2/+7There is still so much IE users? Damn!
- chetanthaker, on 04/02/2008, -7/+12The very reason is IE7 marketshare is higher than Firefox's is because of the "FREE UPGRADE TO A SLICK BROWSER WITH TABS !!!" -- SUCK it M$, you aint getting too far away
- inactive, on 04/02/2008, -1/+6Well if you really wanna help then try getting others to use. I am the tech help guy among the group of people who know me and they ask me for help ever once in a while regarding computers. The only condition i keep for helping is that they cannot use IE after that. i either install firefox or opera (Mostly FF).
- 47f0, on 04/02/2008, -1/+6Ahh - to sleep with a woman - or to fantasize about sleeping with Bill Gates - no need to ask where you are...
And, not to be a spelling nazi, but blowing "ignroance or intellgence" is just priceless - too cute. - vdog, on 04/02/2008, -0/+5When was the last time you tried it? I'm been using Fx3 beta 4 for a while now, and haven't had a problem with it.
The 'awesomebar' that lets you type in titles and not just URLs is, for the want of a better word, awesome. - Sairgem, on 04/02/2008, -0/+4What's the point of this? As IE7 gains users, IE6 loses users. I don't see IE losing much more market share than it was before.
- Ockniel, on 04/02/2008, -4/+8Wow, thank you so much for this post. I was about to come down here to the comments and start digging up all the comments that said how great firefox is, and then I read your post and started crying. My day is totally ruined.
- epiffffany, on 04/02/2008, -2/+6This article is a masturbatory aid to some and nothing more.
- badassninja, on 04/02/2008, -2/+6Yeah... I left IE 5 years ago. I see no reason to trust them ever again. anything they ever do is just copying firefox at this point. And the next version of Firefox will use less ram than all other browsers. The only point of even thinking about IE any more is to help convert the ignorant ones.
- zanthrax, on 04/02/2008, -0/+4What's so awesome about Opera is the facts that after you install it, it works.
Anything Opera can do, Firefox can do too, after you found and installed the correct widget.
But when I am using software I pretty much behave like a user, I don't care about wasting time on tinkering with beta/unfinished projects and getting things to work perfectly, I expect them to work nice out of the box so I can start doing what I want to do ASAP. Opera does that.
The widgets system however blows chunks. It's just a bunch of toys and shouldn't even be compared to FF's extensions capabilities. - Ademan, on 04/02/2008, -0/+3I dunno, I have yet to RTFA but how would they know with any degree of accuracy when two browsers belong to the same person?
- jabz, on 04/02/2008, -8/+11I love to see that oeice of ***** die. Since 2004 I`m on Firefox and never wanted to go back.
- HonoredMule, on 04/02/2008, -0/+3Check his history. He's a worthless troll, and antagonizing people is is only clumsy, obnoxious trick...don't let him waste your time or attention.
- 47f0, on 04/02/2008, -0/+3Actually, the definition of "pathetic" is someone who doesn't understand the first law of "digging" holes - when you're in over your head - stop. Count your diggs on this thread boingybuddy, then go to mozilla.com and get a decent brower - even you can afford it.
- HonoredMule, on 04/02/2008, -1/+4I think Firefox has to take the crown on cusomizeability, simply because all the other features you listed (that aren't already in Firefox, and excluding "small footprint") serve as examples of functionality that anyone could add to Firefox with an extension.
I know several extensions do add/adjust to opera-esque behavior many of those usability features.
I might have been interested in Opera long ago, but Firefox came around before they stopped trying to charge for it or use an ad-supported model, and I still prefer open source out of principle anyway. - fugazied, on 04/02/2008, -0/+38 hr work day today for me, 30 mins of which was spent on IE 6 problems. Over the period of this year it will probably add up to a week of time spent hacking to fix IE 6 issues and making sure things are fine in IE 7. FF, Safari and opera. MS were happy to ship absolutely shoddy products for years and finally IE 8 shows some promise.
- saisumimen, on 04/02/2008, -0/+3"serve as examples of functionality that anyone could add to Firefox with an extension."
That is, IF you feel like adding them. That's the beauty of FOSS. - HonoredMule, on 04/02/2008, -0/+3I do similar tactics (sometimes promoting Linux also/later on). Someone could argue I'm being a zealot pushing my standards on other people (and even do it without being half the asshat bingobongony is). But why would people want my help in the first place if they don't like/won't heed my advice? And if you really don't like being told how to better run your computer...well, you could always PAY someone to fix your computer (over and over again).
Most average joes realize that the techies in their lives give this kind of advice because they CARE. If they didn't, they wouldn't be fixing computers for free, which is NOT fun work. I don't know anyone who pushes Firefox or Linux because they are on a crusade. They do it because they know it's better, and that if users will take a little time to try it out and make an adjustment, they'll reap the rewards. The possibility of a future with a balanced software market is just a fringe benefit. - HigherLogic, on 04/02/2008, -1/+3Z/X (back/forward)

multi-document interface - vincentweber, on 04/02/2008, -0/+2They fixed 300 memory leaks in FF3. Firefox 3 is now the fastest browser available. It's even faster than Opera now. You should really try it out. It's still beta but has yet to crash on me, while FF2 crashes on a regular basis.
- srodolff, on 04/02/2008, -0/+2Well, what this chart shows me is that 99.9% of the respondants use a form of IE. And that is bad for Microsoft how?
- glinsvad, on 04/02/2008, -0/+2This reminds me of the old "MS Explorer crashes. Outlook not good"-story
