- lorddazzer, on 10/27/2009, -0/+9Not really. It just encourages more people to continue using Exchange and solidifying its stranglehold in the enterprise mail/workflow arena.
At least, that's the only possible reason I could think of. - Angostura, on 10/27/2009, -1/+9Microsoft has just announced that it will publish the specs of the .pst file-format, easing Outlook's stranglehold somewhat:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/10/26/outlook_da ... - javaroast, on 10/27/2009, -0/+8It takes you ten minutes to pull the power cord?
- inactive, on 10/27/2009, -2/+6Wait...they are talking about MS Office?
If so, then no. - Myztry, on 10/27/2009, -1/+4Only problem is that Outlook doesn't use .pst files when setup to use an Exchange server (ie. In a corporate environment). It uses an .ost file as an intermediary and for offline functionality.
Though I'm not sure, I believe the two file formats are different. - MtheoryX, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3You can't even use the reply button correctly o_0
- Elranzer, on 10/27/2009, -2/+4Because Star Office, Open Office, IBM Symphony and Apple iWork have all done a bang-up job putting a dent in Microsoft Office's stranglehold...
- friday1970, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Even better question is to who can give Cisco a run for its money. For a nice router appliance, it's hard to beat cisco. I've found a few projects along the way that easily match Cisco in performance.
Vyatta is one I've played around with in the past, and they have a few appliances. (They call me occasionally trying to sell me one much too often. Damn salesman!).
The other day, I finally took a stab at creating a simple router on a linux box and found it to be easier than I thought.
I've often used Adtran products, especially their netvanta and total access lines of products
But, there are excellent router projects too, such as monowall, pfsense, and smoothwall.
Anyone else know of any really decent projects that compete with Cisco and data routing? I'd love to hear some good fresh ideas. - daraboland, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2any competition, for microsoft is good in my book! they have had too many monopolies for too long.
- inactive, on 10/27/2009, -2/+3Yes, it takes me ten minutes to pull the power cord. No, seriously, the vulnerabilities of cisco routers, exploits of the different network services, the ***** firmware, and terrible software are not worth the guaranties, warranties, and support.
- XEusioN, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Well aren't you just a badass!
- Cygea, on 10/27/2009, -2/+1To be honest, I use iWork daily, and it doesn't even compare with Office, It's completely usable, and does the job well. But Office 2007 is the bomb.
- lukemiddleton2, on 10/27/2009, -4/+1this might stop the flow of microsoft taking over the world
- chrism18, on 10/27/2009, -6/+1Typical google always interfering
- hinesh, on 10/27/2009, -13/+3It's quiet in here... can you hear the echo?
- inactive, on 10/27/2009, -12/+1Cisco blows a fat one. I can take down any Cisco product or service in under ten minutes.
